Lying in the biobed Alicia had plenty going through her mind, wondering if Sthilg had explained to Savar that she wouldn’t be able to have any more children. Not that she was craving more, she had a son and now a daughter too. She felt blessed to just be alive.
Savar entered Alicia's room quietly, cradling their daughter in his arms. "Alicia." He questioned as he drew closer, "I have someone here that is extremely anxious to meet you." As he came alongside her bed.
“She’s not the only one!” Alicia’s eyes fell on her baby daughter as Savar brought her to the bedside. Holding out her arms she smiled as Savar gently passed their daughter over to her. “Hey there” She gently rested their daughter’s head on her chest as she cradled her a few emotional tears running down her cheeks. “She’s so beautiful Savar!”
Savar stood quietly allowing mother and daughter an opportunity to bond. Their daughter cooing softly as Alicia held her. "She takes after her mother ." He looked at Alicia, how are you feeling Alicia?" He inquired.
“Tired” Alicia offered a smile. “Not surprising given the amount of blood I’m told I lost. Im lucky my father and his team are as good as they are.” She looked down at their daughter. “We haven’t even decided on a name, any ideas?”
" That is to be expected Alicia. You must rebuild your strength." Savar answered before answering Alicia's question. What do you think of the name Allison? It means noble or little Alice though I am sure little Alicia will work just as well." Savar replied.
Alicia smiled warmly. “Allison is wonderful, somehow I was expecting a more Vulcan name choice from you.” She gently ran her fingers over their daughters gentle skin.
"If you prefer a more Vulcan name, we can of course choose one." Savar answered. Do you have a preference for a name? " He asked.
“No particular one” Alicia offered a tired smile. “We can look at some options if you like? I do like Allison though.” Her smile faded a little. “Did my father speak with you?”
Savar shook his head "Only that you were stable and doing well." Savar answered.
“Then he didn’t tell you” Her smile faded altogether. “Savar ... there was a lot of damage, my father doesn’t seem to think I’ll ever be able to have more children.” She hung her head a few tears rolling down her cheeks and dripping onto baby Allison.
Savar moved even closer to the bed, he took Alicia's hand in his. "That does not matter Alicia. What matters is you and that you are fine. I married you because i love you not on how many children we could have." He stroked her cheek with his free hand. " You have a son and now a daughter along with a husband who all love you very much. Be thankful for what you have Alicia and not on what have been."
Alicia nodded as she held her husband’s hand. “I’m sorry, I didn’t think it mattered that much to me. You’re right I have a complete family and you all mean the world to me.”
"You are not one to dwell on negatives Alicia. Focus on the positives, your, father, mother along with your children and myself. I believe you will see just how rich you are." Savar replied as he continued to hold Alicia's hand.
Alicia nodded as she looked down at their daughter. “I feel lucky to have all of you.” It was at that moment she realised Connor wasn’t there. “Connor! Where is Connor?”
"Who?" Savar joked then continued, "He is with Tate out in the waiting room. "we decided it best for me and our daughter to come back first. Did not want Connor trying to jump on you."
“He’s a little bouncy but jumping isn’t easy for an 18 month old” Alicia grinned. “He is a little wriggler I’ll admit, I don’t think I’ll be able to carry him around for a little while either!”
"I prefer to be safe than sorry Alicia. Do not worry about carrying Connor. I can do that" Savar assured his wife.
Alicia nodded. “I don’t plan on overdoing it, it looks like I’m in for a longer than usual recovery anyway. It’s a good job we brought things early for the nursery. Speaking of rooms, we’ll need to arrange one for my mother. She said once the baby was born she’d come to help, Although it obviously won’t be just yet.”
"I will start on that when I return to our quarters Alicia. Do not stress over that. Your mother will have a place to stay." Savar assured her.
“I don’t want you working yourself into the floor either” Alicia held her husband’s hand. “Before you quote the fact that you’re Vulcan you still need rest. We’re going to have long nights ahead of us with this little one.”
"Your concern is noted and appreciated Alicia. However I promise not to work myself into the floor." Savar assured his wife. "Long nights? I have already has an in depth conversation with our daughter telling her it is illogical to cry in the middle of the night." Savar went on.
Alicia couldn’t help but grin. “I think it’s a little early for that conversation, she’s not going to understand the logic of anything for a long time yet.”
Savar was unconvinced or he just wanted Alicia to smile. "We shall see Alicia. She has not cried yet." He noted.
Alicia grinned. “I swear if that works then you’ll be considered a miracle worker amongst this crew!” She looked down at their gorgeous daughter. “She certainly has your ears, and those tiny raised eyebrows too. How long until she needs another feed? I was hoping to breastfeed but it’s going to take some practice.”
Savar's eyes twinkled in merriment at Alicia's comment. "She was very receptive to it." He continued on. "She also has your eyes Alicia." He pointed out. "as for her next feeding, in one hour. There is no reason why you cannot breast feed Alicia." He pointed out.
Alicia nodded. “Then I have an hour to enjoy before I start practicing with the breastfeeding. It’s a case of trial and error or so I’ve heard.”
"When it is time our daughter will not cry, she will softly coo at you. I told her she would get better results with that. Than crying."
Alicia couldn’t help but grin. “It’s what babies are meant to do Savar, they cry because they don’t have any other way of communicating what they need.” She looked down at their daughter. “Both our children mean the universe to me Savar, as do you. I’m sorry I put you through all this worry.”
"There is nothing for you to be sorry about Alicia. You did nothing wrong." Savar replied. "We are all here, a family. " He bent forward and kissed her softly on the lips. "You are the universe to me and the children Alicia and we love you very much."
Alicia smiled before returning Savar’s kiss, “My father has offered to help out by looking after Connor for us while I’m recouperating, and before all this happened I offered to let Gary help out too. If that’s alright with you?”
"Of course it is alright Alicia. Commander Taylor is Connors father. They need to bond as well." Savar returned.
“Thank you” Alicia smiled. “I’ll make arrangements with them both for taking care of Connor, I don’t want our little boy feeling like we’ve abandoned him so I’ll split the time three ways.” She stifled a yawn. “Sorry, I’m still feeling pretty weak.”
"As you wish Alicia." Savar replied saw her yawn. "We should leave you. You have been through a most challenging and trying time. Rest and rebuild your strength. We will come back later." He promised.
Alicia nodded, as much as she hated having to let her daughter go. “Okay Imzadi. Hopefully I’ll be able to come home soon.”
"You will Alicia. Of that I have no doubt and when you do, we will be there waiting to help and love you." Savar replied.
Alicia smiled. “I know you will.” Reluctantly handing Savar their daughter she relaxed back in her bed, it didn’t take long before the exhaustion of birth and it’s aftermath caught up again. She was out like a light within minutes.
Savar held their daughter. "You did very good my daughter. Very good indeed. We must go now and let your mother rest. We will come back and see her again later." Allison just looked at him and cooed softly.
