Mission: Season 5: Episode 2: Operation Save Humanity
Location: Deck 32 Marine County, Thunder Dome
Timeline: MD3 0730 hrs
2082 words - 4.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Having managed to tear herself away from her new husband for a little while, Leilani made her way to the Marine training room. She needed to keep her physical skills as sharp as her mental ones, that meant keeping fit, not that George hadn’t given her plenty of exercise in their quarters. She was busy doing press ups when someone else arrived.

David entered the Thunder Dome, looking to burn off a lot of pent up energy. He had been feeling out of sorts a bit lately and, while Baeryn certainty helped him feel comfortable, right now, he just really wanted to hit something.

He nodded to tbe various Marines he pqssed as he approached the heavy bags. After a few stretches, he locked in on the bag and started to throw powerful punches into it, punishing it mercilessly.

“Looks like someone needs to let off some steam” Leilani smiled as she approached David with a towel round her neck. “I’m Leilani Charles, the new Combat Medic.” She smiled warmly.

Barely slowing his abuse on the bag, David's eyes moved to Leilani's, but said nothing. After a few more hits, he threw an extremely powerful left hook, causing the hanging bag to swing freely on its heavy duty duty chain.

Breathing heavily, David moved over to the near bench and picked up a clean towel from the stack that was sitting there. Moving back towards Leilani, his cerulean eyes locked on her dark eyes. "Hey, David Tonelly. I'm the unit's scout sniper." He took a beat, as if thinking if something. "Charles...any relation to that hotshot pilot, Lieutenant George Charles?"

Leilani nodded. “I’m his wife, we got married yesterday.” She smiled the biggest smile yet looking at her wedding ring.

This news suprised him. Something this big would usually spread like wildfire through the barracks. "Oh! You known each other long?"

Leilani grinned a wry grin. “All of ... Ohhh a day! Two if you count today!” She grinned. “You could say it was love at first sight.” She looked at David curiously. “Is there a reason I can’t read you?”

David chuckled at that. But, then again, who was he to judge? He had known that Baeryn was the one for him the very first night they had been together. At the question, he gave a rye smile. "I'm El Aurian. We can't be read by empaths or telepaths. As for you and the Lieutenant, congratulations. It’s hard enough to find peace in this crazy universe, glad two fellow Marines were able to in such a short time."

Lani smiled. “Thank you. I guess that kind of explains why it feels like you’re not even there. It’s like I’m talking to a ghost!” She grinned. “Would you like to spar? I need the practice.”

Arching an eyebrow, David grinned. "You think you're Marine enough?" As he walked by, he playfully snapped her hip with his towel.

Leilani yelped then grinned. “Ohh I’m more than marine enough!” She followed him to the sparring mat and took up her position.

Realizing that he outweighed Leilani by a great deal, David decided to start off slow. He moved into a traditional Karate stance. "Ladies first," he said with a grin.

Leilani knew she was outmatched but her training has always focussed around using her smaller frame to her advantage. She started off looking as though she was going to charge for his left side before suddenly swapping to his right as she gave him a firm hard kick to his right leg.

David could see just how she was hoping to attack by the energy that was radiating from her. At the last beat, he tightened the muscles in his right leg, which, combined with his much stronger bone density, made the leg that Leilani had kicked, feel like duracrete.

Lani dropped to the floor cradling her foot as she met David’s rock solid feeling leg. It took a few moments of deep breaths before she hobbled back up onto her feet ready for his attack. “Right .. your turn.”

Smiling a wolf grin, David asked, "You sure you want this?"

“I’m a marine I don’t give in!” She nodded and motioned for him to bring his a-game. She just hoped she could handle it and not make a fool of herself.

Nodding, David straightened up. Moving off to the side of tbe mat, he removed his unifotm jacket, revealing the burn scar on his right forearm and hand. He then untucked his olive drag green t-shirt and pullex it off over his head, the bullet scars on his right hip coming into view as his the US Army Air Assault Wings tattoo, which covered his upper back, from shoulder blade to shoulder blade.

Turning back to reenter the fighting area, sweat was still glistening on his chiseled, well-defined physique. Hicking his pants up a little, to give himself better movement, he dropped back down into the ready stance, his muscles flexing and rippling as he moved. "Last chance to go get on the swing set, little girl." Though his words could be seen as insulting, the grin and the glint in his eyes made it clear that he was just trying to get a rise out of her.

If it hadn’t been for her love for George the sight of David would have made Lani swoon, as it was she only had her mind on trying not to go down too easy. She had to put up a descent fight at least or she’d prove herself one very poor marine indeed. “Do your worst!” She stood ready hoping she could handle whatever David had planned.

David's smile grew slightly, then fell back into seriousness. He didn't move for a few beats, his eyes locked on hers. Then, when he did move, it was an explosion of movement. He went for a powerful spinning heel roundhouse kick, aimed at her head, though he knew he had telegraphed it, so, After she easily ducked it, he continued the spin, dripping down and snapping her legs out from under her. Standing back up, he looned down at her surpine position. "C'mon, now! I thought you were a Marine! Not some damn fleeter!"

Leilani bit her lip and sprung up, having sparked some anger inside her she lunged at him throwing everything she had. With the fire of anger behind her, her moves were less coordinated and more random, getting in a few hard lucky strikes here and there. “Good enough for you handsome?” She stood waiting for him.

David reached up and wiped the trickle of blood that had formed at the corner of his mouth. " Oh, yeah. Now you got a party." He changed tack and dropped into a Thai Kickboxing stance. Then, with out hesitation attacked. At first landing a hard kick to Leilani's right knee, then switched it up and threw a hard shin kick into her left shoulder, followed up by another spinning sweep of her legs. Moving over her, he braced his weight on his knees. "You done yet?"

Leilani was hurt but she wasn’t going to give up, reaching up she grappled his head into scissor lock. She was riled up and she wasn’t thinking about what would happen next.

David was suprised to say the least. First but the quickness of the attack, and the strength. He tried to force Leilani's legs open, but, try as he might, he couldn't break her lock. As hs vision began to blur, he did the only ting his brain was telling him to do. Reaching down with his left hand he took hold of her throat, then straining every muscle in his body, he slowly lifted her up off the mat. He slammed her once, twice, but still she hung on. Knowing he had only enough left for one more try, he gave it everything he had and not only stood up straight, but, with the length of his arm longer than her torso, he managed to finally break the hold and held aloft in a choke hold.

At this point, George ntered the Thunder Dome. The computer had told him that Leilani was in here, so he decided too come down and see if she wanted to work out together, aside from their bedroom.

He had a smile on his face until he heard the fear screaming out from her mind. Hearing a male voice roaring to his right, he turned and then saw red. There was his Leilani, his treasure, HIS WIFE, being held aloft ina choke hold by a Marine nearly twice her size. He wasted no time.

Sprinting over, he called out, "Hey, shit head! Get your hands off my wife!. He then hauled back and struck the man with a devistating right hook to the side of his head.

David heard the threat and the approaching attack a beat too late. The hit landed perfectly, and he heard bone crack. Whether it was his skull, or his attackes fist, he didn't know, all he did know was that it was a powwrful hit, more than just sparring.

Stumbling, he released his hold on Leilani, who dropped to the deck. He then tried to clear his head. Taking a few steps to the side, he turned to face his opponent. Only to find that opponent kneeling down, checking in Leilani.

Leilani lay on the deck coughing and trying to breath, the sparring session had got completely out of hand mostly her fault. She looked up at George nodding that was okay. “I ...” She coughed as she looked towards David. “I’m... sorry! My... fault!” She took her husband’s hand for George to help her up. She was going to be very sore.”

George was confused. "What...your fault? Baby, how can him holding you aloft in a chokehold be your fault?"

Leilani sat massaging her throat, “I had... him in a... scissor lock.” She coughed clearing her throat. “I’m sorry David.”

The El Aurian nodded. "I think we both were at fault, Leilani." He offered her his right hand. "Friends?"

Leilani nodded as she accepted the apology and slowly got to her feet. “George..” I think maybe an apology is in order? Please! it was then she noticed he had a very swollen right hand. “That hands needs looking at.”

Though she had told him that she was fine, George was still a little upset. However, at her gentle urgings, he extended his right hand in apology. That's when he saw what Leilani was talking about. His hand was swollen, especially his pinky joint.

David saw the swelling too and frowned. "Yeah, I thought I heard a cracking sound when you hit me." He tapped the side of his skull. "My bone is three times denser than yours, as my homeworld was a high gravity world." He topped his head at the hand. "I bet it's broken." He reached out and gently grasped George’s left shoulder. "However, as you helped to save my ass at Quell'ish, no apology is needed. In fact, thank you. It was getting pretty hairy down there."

George felt a little confused at everything he was hearing and feeling. However, in the end, he gave David a slight grin. "Glad I could help out a brother Marine. Just, next time, no chokeholds on my wife, okay?"

David grinned and nodded. "Fair enough. Now, you should go get that looked at. I wouldn't want to the reason one of Elysium's aces couldn't fly." He then nodded to Leilani and left the couple alone.

“You go get that sorted out” Leilani smiled at her husband. “I’ll go home and treat my own bruises, otherwise it’s just going to lead to awkward questions. I don’t want to get Tonelly into trouble, or myself for that matter.” She offered a smile.

Are you sure, Imzadi? George asked via their connection. You don't have any other injuries, do you?

Just my wounded pride Imzadi, I’ll be fine Lani smiled. “Go, I’ll be fine.”

Reluctantly, George finally nodded. "Very well, Imzadi." He leaned in and gave her a kiss, then turned around and headed for sickbay.

Watching George go Lani waited until he was out of sight before limping her way out of the doors and heading home.
