The senior staff meeting wasn't something Baeryn wanted to dwell on but knew she would need to think though the changes soon. Hell she had to relocate her office yet. She would also need to tell David, part of her wanted to forget the meeting had ever even taken place. Especially after seeing Gallia singled out, Gallia was no longer her assistant but she still cared for the woman.

The cafeteria was loud, but the noise helped drown out her own thoughts as she waited for David. They had gone their separate ways after the show down with Man'darr and agreed to meet for dinner. She hadn't the nerve to tell him the news early. Not that she had the nerve now...

A few minutes later, David entered the cafeteria. Looking around for a moment he smiled when his eyes settled on Baeryn. He moved over to where she was sitting and leaned in to give her a kiss. "Hey, Ryn," he said softly to her. He then sat down next to her. He could tell something was amiss. "What's wrong?"

Baeryns face instantly softened when her love arrived. After returning the kiss she sighed, “Has the news of what happened with Captain Lalor reached marine county yet?”

Frowning slightly, he nodded his head. "Yeah. Though, all of the senior noncoms and officers are saying its all bullshit." He paused before asking, "Why? Is there more?"

“Yeah. Rather then give command of the Elysium to Commander Taylor, they’ve assigned Yasmine Carrington as Captain..... Taylor has also been removed from command, and reassigned to the diplomacy department.” Baeryn shook her head still trying to process everything herself. Blowing out a breath she continued.” Commander Garrett Lovejoy has replaced Taylor as first officer.” That line broke her heart to know it was true. She paused looking down at the table remembering how the new had shocked everyone in the room.

Before David could respond Baeryn added, looking back to those ocean eyes, “I’ve been assigned as second officer, replacing Commander Salannis an Vantar.” There was nothing but dread in her voice.

David tried to find something to say. "Well, I have no doubt that you can do the job. But, I can see that you don't feel the same way. Why, Ryn? What else is wrong?"

“Something just doesn’t feel right. I can’t put a finger on it but there’s a lot not being said. As far as second officer, the only reason I was placed there is because I haven’t been around long, I’m nothing more then a pawn. That much I know.”

This idea made David angry. "If you get hurt because of her..." he let the promise go unsaid. He'd be damned by fire anyone used his bondmate for their own selfish purposes.

"I won't get hurt, I promise. I personally believe the move was made to show her power, and to remove anyone that was close to Lalor."

This seemed to quiet David some, though he still wasn't really happy with the situation. Flaring his nostrils, he e haled a big breath. "Fine. I won't kill anyone. Now."

Baeryn chuckled as she leaned in and kissed David, a little too passionately for their current surrounds but it didn't phase her. Tapping his thigh she said, "Come on, lets go get food. I'm starving."

As they moved to get food, David said, "And if you're good, we might have a banana split for dessert."
