Captains Ready Room

Gary nodded and followed Carrington out of the Conference Room to her Ready Room. He steeled himself for this conversation. He was sure it was going to be stiff and formal unlike the relaxed conversations he and Phoenix had. Not only were He and Phoenix, Captain and XO but they were friends who had been through thick and thin. To hell and back. They also trusted each other completely. Knew each other's thoughts and moods. They could disagree without being disagreeable. Their relationship was solid. He had none of that with Carrington. There was no trust, hell there was barely respect but he had to try.

He came to a stop in front of her desk and waited for her to acknowledge him.

Yasmine rounded her desk and stood facing him. "Now commander, what is the problem?"

*Direct and to the point.* Gary thought to himself. "No problem Captain." He replied easily, unruffled by her directness. "I just wanted to say, don't take things too personally when it comes to Arri. She's used to speaking her mind and voicing her opinion and for you to resist that urge your having to toss her out an airlock." Gary added.

"Commander an Vantar has been hostile the entire time and that meeting it was positively rolling off of her. I am half Betazoid Commander Taylor, I know emotions. I get that she is not happy but then neither am I. I am not asking for people to be happy but to be professional. And she is not. She is lucky I am not demoting her to Ensign!"

"Captain, I am not your enemy. Even though you removed me as XO of this ship. I am professional enough to know that is your prerogative. Nor am I asking you to ignore Arri's behavior. I'm simply trying to get you to understand it. Furthermore what you ask is not unreasonable." Gary countered.

"And have you explained this to Commander an Vantar?" Yasmine asked coldly.

"Not yet I haven't." Gary admitted. "I wanted to speak with you first as you are the Commanding Officer of the ship. My next stop is to see and speak with Arri."

"If she does it again Commander, I will brig her and demote her as far as I can. I hear that Lieutenant McKay is a suitable replacement. "

"I will take your warning to Arri when I speak with her. Lt. McKay is an excellent officer." Gary agreed. "She doesn't have Arri's experience as a Chief but I'm sure she can do the job if you do decide to make a change. I will add this also Captain. Avail yourself of your crews talent's. They are your biggest asset."

"Commander Lovejoy and You will both lead the away teams Commander. I am availing myself do not worry."

"As you wish Captain. " Gary replied. "As for worrying. I leave that to you and Love, I mean Commander Lovejoy."

Yasmine did not roll her eyes. She merely inclined her head. "And Commander? If there are other hotheads out there? Warn them too. That includes the junior populace."

"Certainly Captain. I will make sure to get the message to all who need to hear it." Gary replied. Noting the Captain was at least receptive to his comments and views.

"Very well. Dismissed Commander." Yasmine said softly.

Gary turned to leave but stopped and turned back to Carrington. "I realize we may never be friends but we can respect each other. Also just so you know. I agree with your approach to Green's followers. They only know and respect force. So you see Captain. You aren't alone."

-We shall see- She thought as he left. -We shall see-

Leaving the Captain's Ready Room, Gary reflected on their conversation. It hadn't gone as bad as he had thought it would . The Captain was cool but she had listened to him as well as made her opinion and policy again known. His next stop was to meet with Arri and hopefully talk some sense into her.
