Season 5: Episode 2: Operation Save Humanity
Location: Operations Department
Timeline: MD-3 0800

The morning was already slow in Operations. All systems had recently been evaluated and were running excellently. That didn't stop Baeryn from assigning officers to find new ways to improve the systems efficiency. She knew she was giving them busy work but that was better then the alternative.
She sat at her desk with just a few PaDDs before her. She was notably distracted, something was tugging on her. Her thoughts kept drifting to David no matter how hard she tried to focus. It was difficult to stay put knowing they weren't in need of her, but things could change at a minutes notice so she needed not be where she shouldn't.
Baeryn often had an open door, she wanted to feel connected even when in her office. It was also a training exercise, a way to strength her focus and hone her empathic abilities. She thought the crew would appreciate it, and most of them did. It rarely caused any distractions or allowed them in. Until now.
Vira treaded lightly into Lieutenant Whavi's office. She wore her hair down today, it fell like liquid gold past her shoulders. The Risian smelled of lemons and lavender today, the scent coming off her in waves.
The familiar scent hit Baeryn all at once, it was only then she recognized the warm sunshine like lifeforce that accompanied the being that just entered her office. She had gotten notice of the transfer two days prior and thought for sure it had been a mistake, and then when the ensign failed to report to Operations she didn't think twice about it. Baeryn looked up. Schooling her expression to stay neutral.
"I was starting to think those transfer orders had been sent on mistake." Baeryn's voice was dull, bored.
"I missed you too, B." Vira stood before the desk in the sassiest stance she knew of. Arrogance at it finest.
"Ensign, you will address me as Lieutenant Whavi and nothing else. Is that understood?" Baeryn cringed only slightly at her own tone. She finally looked up.
Vira's expression betrayed nothing of the joy she got from riling the hybrid. "So formal. I thought you enjoyed the nickname." she said coyly.
"Not here." Baeryn sat back in her chair then gestured for Vira to sit. "You'll do well to not forget your place on the Elysium."
Accepting the offer Vira sat crossing her legs, still wearing a smile but said nothing as she returned the stare Whavi gave her.
'Still as incorrigible as ever.' Baeryn thought. "I trust you've checked in with Commander Taylor?"
"I have. He's cute."
"Vemre watch it. Your shenanigan's will not go unchecked here or anywhere aboard the Elysium. You are expected to perform admirably and professionally."
"So what we're not friends anymore? New position going to your head there Lieutenant" There was a hint of distaste in Vira's hazel eyes.
Baeryn's temper quickly rose, Vira knew all the right buttons to press. "Don't expect me to answer that. Keep up the attitude and you'll find yourself reassigned immediately. Whether it be out of this department or off this ship depends on you."
"Noted."
"Will working under me be an issue Ensign?" Baeryn hated how she sounded. Hated how the more she checked Vira the duller her shine seemed. But Baeryn knew that if she didn't establish order between the two now she would be looking at a whole world of problems, all stemming from the hellion disguised as an angel.
"It's nothing I haven't done before, sir."
"This is different Vi-Ensign." Baeryn knew her slip up wouldn't go unnoticed. "Carrington is not going to put up with your crap, and neither am I. If your not serious about this post, tell me now because I will not expect any less from you then I do the others on my team or on this ship."
Vira was quiet, contemplative. This Baeryn was different, no she was acting different but V knew better. Sure the two had a history but she was pushing her away on purpose, Vira just didn't know why. Yet.
"I understand." She responded curtly. "Am I dismissed?"
Baeryn extended one of the PaDD's toward Vira, "Study this, the Elysium is far more advanced then the Rosenbloom and your expected to be familiar with all the systems"
Vira accepted the PaDD, quickly glancing at its contents then back up to Whavi, still waiting to be dismissed.
There was a beat of silence between the two as tension built.
"You are dismissed Ensign."
Vira simply nodded before rising and exiting the office. Baeryn sighed the moment the Risian was out of view.
