Scott stood outside the door to Sapphire's cabin. He had a big night planned for them. Dinner, dancing, a walk through the arboretum and who knew what else would come up. Their plans were fairly fluid, and could quickly be changed to meet the new plans.
His hands were behind his back holding a bouquet of red roses for Sapphire. They had been seeing each other for awhile and things were getting serious. She had treated him to a fantastic evening on the holodeck with Mid Eastern food and drink under a tent as big as his quarters here on the Elysium. He envied Sapphire for the places she had been, the people she met. The various customs and foods she was familiar with. However she never held it over him. No, rather she explained and taught him so he could learn and appreciate the various wonders like she did.
He pressed the chime and waited for her to answer.
The door opened and Sapphire stood there with a smile. "Hello handsome." She was wearing a dark red dress and low red heals.
Scott gazed at her lovingly, "Hello beautiful." He whispered. "You look gorgeous!" He said honestly. He brought his hands from behind his back. "These are for you." As the roses came into view
Her smile went megawatt. "Oh Scott, you didn't have to." She took them and buried her nose in them.
"Yes I did Sapphire. I most certainly did." He smiled at her reaction to the flowers. The evening was off to a good start. "I'm glad you like them."
"They are beautiful, come in while I put them in water." She stepped back and waved him inside.
Scott followed her in and waited with practiced patience as Sapphire found a vase for the roses and filled it with water before putting them in.
Sapphire arranged the roses with ease. Then she set the vase on the coffee table and turned to face him, "So what is the plan tonight?"
"A romantic dinner at Ten Forward, followed by dancing in the Starlight Room and maybe a couple of nightcaps and ending with a walk through the arboretum."
"Hmm sounds lovely," walking over she linked her arm through his. "Lead on handsome."
They left her quarters and headed to Ten Forward. Entering the head waiter saw them and hustled over. "Ah! Lt. Gregory, I have the table you requested waiting for you. Will you please follow me?" Turning he led Sapphire and Scott to a single table centered right in the middle of a huge viewport, so they could watch the stars flash by. Holding the chair out for Sapphire so she could sit, he thanked the waiter and sat down. "What do you think?"
"Love your work Scott. You have great ideas" Sapphire smiled.
"Aw, your too kind Sapphire but thank you." He replied earnestly. "Have any idea of what you want?"
"Hmm something different I think" She replied.
"That sounds intriguing. Anything specific come to mind?" Scott asked.
"I was thinking lamb stew" Sapphire said looking at the menu.
"That does sound good." Scott admitted, "But I'm thinking of something else. I just don't know what." He said with a grin.
"Be adventurous" She encouraged him back with a grin.
"Right. Be adventurous." He grinned back at her. "Let's see...."
Sapphire looked at the menu. "Try the steak medallions?"
"You read my mind Sapphire. I was just looking at that." Scott confessed. "It certainly sounds good." He continued, "Covered in mushroom gravy with a baked potato." He leaned back and looked across at Sapphire. "I think that is what I'm going to have. You still leaning towards the lamb stew?"
Sapphire nodded. "Yes, seems like the best idea for me tonight. Not something that I normally eat."
"Okay." Scott answered, "If that's what you want." He called the waiter so they could place their order and ordered a carafe of red wine to be brought to the table. "I think that will go well with our dinner selections."
"sounds great" She smiled at him. "This is nice and a great idea."
"I'm glad you like it Sapphire. More to come." Scott promised.
"I trust you" she said with a smile. "I am looking forward to it."
"I appreciate your confidence Sapphire." He replied as he poured her a glass of wine and then one for himself. "To a wonderful evening and my beautiful date."
"To a wonderful evening and my handsome date" she replied toasting him. "
Scott chuckled at Sapphire's toast, raising his glass in a salute to her. "I think we both have excellent taste."
"Of course we do, its why we get along so well." Sapphire said with a grin.
Scott smiled brilliantly at her. "Absolutely. Without a doubt."
Sipping her wine, she considered him. "We have been seeing each other for what? 9 months now?"
Scott lowered his glass and answered. "Yes. Nine wonderful months."
"And" she lowered her voice "Sleeping with each other for the past 5 of those, I was wondering if you wanted to apply for joint quarters..."
Scott stared at her and her suggestions. "Are you serious? I would LOVE to share quarters with you. I already know you don't snore."
Sapphire smiled. "I just thought it might be an idea. We can apply for a larger cabin, as we are in Operations, we know how to do it."
"It's a great idea! I love it and you." Scott answered, " We can start the paperwork tomorrow."
Sapphire nodded with a smile. "Love you too."
Scott didn't say anything he jus reached his hand across the table to take Sapphire's hand in his and he squeezed it softly.
She turned her wrist and laced her fingers with his and squeezed back.
"I sure do love you Sapphire Morgan." He said softly.
"I love you Scott Gregory." Sapphire smiled as she spoke. "This relationship seems to be working."
"I do believe you are right Sapphire my love." Scott bantered back just as their meals arrived. "I'll give you some of my steak medallions if you let me try some of your lamb stew." He offered.
"Sure, seems to be a fair swap." Sapphire said and thanked the waiter.
Scott chuckled and shook his head. :I would never take advantage of you Sapphire." He grinned at her, just enjoying their easy conversation.
"Hmm unless I want you to" she said softly and picked up a small plate to serve him some of her stew.
"Well, there is that." Scott admitted with a smile.
Sapphire handed over the plate with a smile. "Its fun when you do."
"Oh really?" Scott chirped as he placed some steak medallions on a plate and handed it to Sapphire. "Hope you like them."
A sligh flush crossed her cheeks. "A conversation for private maybe?" she asked as she took the plate. Reaching she took her wine glass and sipped.
"I think that is a wise decision." he took a taste of her stew. "Wow. That is fantastic! So tender, it melts in your mouth."
"Hmm yes and the steak is lovely as well. i think we chose wisely"
"Indeed Sapphire. We do seem to excel in good taste."
She gave a soft laugh and settled to enjoy the meal with him.
They enjoyed their meal and each other company and soon it was over. "That was great!" Scott exclaimed. "You ready to do some dancing? Trip the light fantastic?"
"With you? Always" She laughed and let him lead the way.
Scott laughed as he signed the check, leaving a nice tip for the waiter then taking Sapphire's hand they exited Ten Forward and headed to their next destination... the Starlight Room.
Sapphire leaned into his side as they moved down the halls.
They walked the corridors, talking and laughing softly. Two people deeply in love, enjoying each other's company.
They went dancing and for a couple of hours, enjoyed holding each other close and just being together.
As they left the Starlight Room, Scott held Sapphire close, "How do you feel about a walk through the arboretum?"
"Sounds like a great idea" she replied with a smile.
"I'm glad you approve Sapphire." Scott replied happily as the pair got on the nearest lift to take them to the arboretum.
"So..." Sapphire said softly. "When we get back to Earth Next time... Do you want to meet my mother?"
"I sure would Sapphire. Oh wait, what if she doesn't like me?" Scott was suddenly apprehensive that is relationship could suddenly go south if her mother didn't like him.
"She will like you." She replied. "My siblings are a different story."
"Are you sure Sapphire? I mean really sure? And why won't your siblings like me? Not that I care about their opinion." Scott asked.
"Well they hate me" came the calm reply. "I was not meant to survive. My mother and I avoid them."
Well, you know what? Screw your siblings. I love you and i want to meet your mother." Scott answered firmly.
Sapphire smiled. "She will like you do not worry Scott."
Scott smiled and nodded, "I trust your opinion Sapphire."
"Like I trust yours" She smiled.
Scott smiled, "Thank you Sapphire."
They entered the arboretum and Sapphire looked around as they did so. "Looks so boring when its not dressed for celebrations."
"I think it's beautiful." Scott said in an awe stricken voice.
"It is beautiful but you have seen it when the Captain decorates it."
"I sure have. Then it's gorgeous." Scott offered.
Holding his hand, Sapphire smiled. "Where should we walk to?"
"We have the whole place to find "our spot" Sapphire." Scott replied raising her hand to his lips and kissing it softly.
Her cheeks went pink but she smiled. "Shall we continue then?"
"Absolutely." Scott agreed as they started walking, looking for the perfect spot they could call their own.
"Through there, is the waterfall." Sapphire said softly.
"Perfect!" Scott whispered and holding Sapphire's hand, led the way towards the waterfall.
They found a nice area at the base of the waterfall where they were able to sit and listen and be dry.
"This is perfect." Scott said as he sat with Sapphire enjoying the peace and harmony. "Next time , we need to bring a picnic lunch."
"A wonderful idea" Sapphire agreed. "It is definitely perfect here."
"I've decided to name this place. I christened it Sapphire's Hideaway." Scott said with a smile.
She laughed and shook her head "Oh darling" she said "I am not sure we can do that"
Scott looked hurt, "Huh? Why not?" he asked. He thought it was a great idea and said so. "I think it's a great name and a great idea."
"And watch Captain Icepants say no" She whispered with a smile.
"I'm not asking Captain Icepants Sapphire. I named this place and that's that." Scott replied defiantly.
She laughed. "I wont blab" and she kissed him.
"That's my girl." Scott laughed. "I'll come back here in a couple of days and put the sign up."
"Make sure it is well hidden love."
"Don't worry. Ol Icepants will never even see it." Scott assured her.
"I am not talking about her, I am thinking of everyone else."
"Yeah. That's true. Okay, I'll hide so no one will know but the two of us." Scott clarified.
"Good. Perfect" Sapphire smiled at him.
"I try Sapphire, I really do."
"You succeed" She kissed his cheek.
"You say the nicest things my love." Scott replied.
"easy when I am with you." she snuggled in against him. "This is nice, just the two of us."
"I couldn't agree more Sapphire. I could spend a lifetime just holding you, being in your company." Scott replied as he held her close.
"We have the time" she whispered.
"All the time in the world Sapphire." Scott agreed.
They sat there for a while, letting the sound of the waterfall relax them.
"This is heaven and your an angel Sapphire."
"No wings here, I am just a normal person Darling." she whispered back.
"Not in my eyes sweetheart." Scott replied in an answering whisper.
Smiling she brushed her lips across his. "Shall we go to one of our cabins?"
"A most excellent idea Sapphire." He replied with a tender kiss.
Standing, she held out a hand to him with a smile. "Tomorrow I will put through the request."
" I can't wait to share quarters with you Sapphire. This will be great. Tomorrow can't get here quick enough." Scott told her with a bright, happy smile on his face.
Sapphire linked her arm through his as they walked out of their hidey-hole and back into the arboretum proper. "Hm same."
They walked out for the arboretum and toward their quarters. A couple very much in love.
