Mission: Season 5: Interlude: Darkness Abounds
Location: USS Elysium, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 2 / 1034 hours

Leilani looked down at her son as she walked along the corridor to Sickbay, they were on their way to get Hendor’s next bout of medical treatment done. She was wishing George was with her, but unfortunately he was on flight rotation and was unable to attend. “Are you okay there Sweetheart?” She smiled as she looked down at Hendor.

Looking up at her, Hendor nodded, but seemed nervous at the same time.

Leilani paused walking to crouch down and hug Hendor. “You’re a big brave boy Hendor, I’m very proud of you.” Standing up again she started walking again and they were soon at Sickbay.

Feeling the hug, and hearing the loving words from his mother, Hendor seemed to feel a bit more confident. "Love you, Mama!"

Inside sickbay, the gorn was going over the instruments again to make sure he had everything assembled. Nodding he looked at the metal cylinder with the boys new eye and necessary tissues. Nodding to himself he waited for the patient to arrive.

“I love you too Sweetheart” Leilani smiled as the two of them stepped into Sickbay. “Good Morning Sthilg, I’ve brought a certain young man for his treatment.”

" Hello, little sssquire how are you doing? Have you been good to your mom and dad? " The lizard said as he picked him up and gave him a scan.

Upon seeing Sthilg, Hendor's nervousness seemed to melt away immediately. He practically ran from Leilani, to wrap his little arms around the Gorn's neck. "Hi, Dragon Knight! I've missed you! How are you doing?"

" I'm doing fine little one. Are you prepared for the surgery?" He asked calmly as he ran a few scans along the boy's head. Everything was looking good.

Hendor nodded calmly. He knew that there was nothing to fear from his Dragon Knight. "What do I need to do?"

" I jussst need you to lay down on the bed and count backwardsss from ten when I tell you to. " The lizard said as he placed the small boy down on the biobed.

Hendor nodded to Sthilg, giving the large Gorn a brave grin.

Leilani stood alongside gently taking hold of Hendor’s hand. She was more worried than Hendor. “I’ll be right here when you wake up.”

Turning his head, Hendor smiled brightly when she spoke to his mother. "It's okay, Mama! My Dragon Knight is the best doctor there is!"

" I thank you for the vote of confidence young sssquire. Now can you ssstart counting back from ten?" The gorn replied as he softly injected him with a hypospray.

Looking back at Sthilg, Hendor smiled and nodded. "Yes, Sir. Ten, ni......" He was out before he could finish speaking.

The gorn gave him a check over making sure he was out before he activated the bio bed life support systems in operating mode. " Thisss will take a few hoursss my dear. I'll call you when it's done." He said to Leilani with a smile on his face.

Leilani nodded reluctantly letting go of Hendor’s hand. “Thank you Sthilg” She took another look at Hendor wishing George was here with her right now. Her pregnancy hormones didn’t help much when it came to tearing herself away.

“Don’t worry he’ll be fine” Emily smiled as she appeared ready to assist Sthilg with Hendor’s operation.

Snow teleported in as well. " This way Leilani Sthilg will take care of him." he said as he lead the way out of the ward.

" Now we'll have to make an incisssion in the back of the sssocket to insert the optic nerve ssso we can thread it through. Lazer ssscaple. " he said calmly as his arm adjusted so he could fit his know long thin fingers into the boys socket.

Emily nodded as she stood on the opposite side of Hendor prepared to assist, it was what she was trained to do, but it didn’t make it any easier with Hendor being her nephew.

It took Sthilg hours to complete the operation making an incision in the back of his socket before threading the new eyes through and carefully connecting the nerve endings.

Then the careful hands of the old doctor attached the muscles, blood veins and nerves all with the care of an expert jeweller.

After four long hours and making sure everything was working the gorn leaned back pleased with his work. Reaching for a patch and bandages he began to apply them to the boys new eyes. " Can we get 25ml of Adynonium? He'sss going to be very itchy."

"Yes Doctor" Emily nodded and fetched the Adynonium, pressing it to Hendor's neck. "Adynonium is in Doctor. Shall I go and bring Leilani back?"

The gorn nodded as he gave one final examination to his work.

Emily nodded and headed to the relatives area to go and get Leilani. "Leilani" she smiled warmly. "Hendor is in recovery, you're welcome to come and see him now."

Leilani nodded, she'd been sitting for what felt like forever waiting for news on Hendor, she was both excited and scared at the same time. Making her way into Sickbay with Emily she offered Sthilg a smile. "How is my little boy Sthilg?"

" Ssshould be coming round in a moment. " The gorn said from his still at the boys side. " Oprationsss been a complete sssucesss."

As the adults spoke, Hendor started to moan softly as he slowly regained consciousness.

Leilani moved to her son’s side gently taking his hand. “Hey little man, it’s okay. It’s all over now.”

Hendor seemed very groggy. "Mama...itchy..." he started to reach up to scratch his face.

" Ah.. No ssscartching. " The calm voice of Sthilg came. " You have a head full of new nerve endings to get ussse to young sssquire. " He said running a faint light over his bandages. " Did you sssee sssoemthing?" He inquired.

His reaction was immediate. "I did!! I saw a...something!"

Leilani smiled the biggest smile yet as she looked towards Sthilg.

"I'll get an extra dose of medication for that itching, just to make Hendor a little more comfortable. Is that alright with you Doctor?"

The gorn nooded. " Now young sssquire. You have a new eye and it'sss connecting sssytemsss in your head. I need you to keep the bandagesss on for a few daysss until it'sss resssted and ajusssted." he explained in his old grandfatherly tone.

"Yes, Sir," Hendor replied in his small voice. "It's very itchy, Sir. I'm trying very hard not to scratch."

" Good boy. Here thisss ssshould help." the gorn replied as he gave him another injection.

"I'll make sure he doesn't scratch" Leilani offered a smile. "Is there anything we can use for the irritation at home?"

" I can sssend sssome powdersss and creamsss that could help to your replicator. It should pass in a day to two." The gorn said reassuringly.

Leilani nodded. "That will be wonderful, thank you Sthilg for everything."

" Jussst doing my job." The gorn beamed.

"Maybe so" Leilani grinned. "But without you Hendor wouldn't be getting his life back. For that I'm eternally grateful."

" Jussst look after your mother young sssquire. " the gorn said giving the young boy a pat on his shoulder.

"I will that I promise you!" Leilani smiled as she held onto Hendor's hand.

"I will, Sir!" Hendor replied proudly. He loved his Mama more than anything. Even ice-cream.
