After their chat Alicia had walked with Samuel to where Heather was working. “Excuse me Heather” Alicia smiled warmly. “This is Lieutenant Samuel Woolheater” She motioned to Samuel. “he’s here for his boarding medical.”

Heather offered a warm smile, the plait in red hair swishing over her shoulder as she turned to look at Samuel. “Welcome aboard Lieutenant.” She turned to Alicia. “Leave it with me, I’ll sort Samuel out.”

Sam turned to Alicia, "Thank you Commander"

Nodding Alicia offered Samuel a warm smile then headed on her way.

“Take a seat on the biobed please Lieutenant, I’ll be right with you.”

The medical bay was a lot nicer than any back on the Hale, his last shipboard posting. Probably even better than Titan's. Starfleet definitely sprung for the "premiere package" when they kitted out Elysium. Right away Sam noticed how pleasant and upbeat Nurse Heather was. Her braid was neatly woven and a very pretty shade of red. He sat on the biobed edge and waited. As he waited, he hummed softly to himself. Listening to the beeps and the sounds of the medical bay. It helped him relax and it was mostly unconscious. In these moments he had learned to use them to help him focus. He hummed the tune quietly to himself in his baritone voice. He appreciated how clean everything was too. Everything had its place. He appreciated order as well.

Heather smiled warmly as she returned to Samuel’s side, Medical tricorder in hand ready to run some tests. “Comfortable?”

"Yes ma'am. Thank you" he responded and stopped humming. The pips on her uniform were that of an Ensign. The probe on a medical tricorder had always annoyed him. It was necessary evil though. Even though there was plenty of evidence to prove that the sound it emitted was not obnoxious to most, Sam found himself in the minority group that thought it sounded annoying.

“Okay then” Heather tapped her tricorder. “I’m just going to run some scans, nothing to worry about. It just gives me an up-to-date record to add to your medical file.” She smiled. “Anything I should be aware of?”

"Thank you Ensign" he said politely. "I feel a little groggy? I had a sedative administered a couple of days ago now. More than forty-eight hours. Should I still be feeling foggy?" he asked.

Heather shook her head. “After 48 hours? I wouldn’t have thought so. It can depend on what medication you were given though, I’ll see if anything shows up on the scans.”

"Thank you. Also, last mission OP I had some damage to my eardrums. Doc said I should have them looked at again when I next got examined" he said as the medical scan took place. "I got a few ribs cracked. Coastal? Costly? Costco carta..catralige?" he stumbled around the medical term.

Heather grinned. “Medical terminology is a tongue twister isn’t it?” She tapped her tricorder. “Okay let’s have a check on your eardrums to start with.” She moved the medical tricorder closer to his head, scanning the area around both of his ears. “Okay, looks like the damage to your ear drums is healing nicely. Have you experienced any hearing loss?”

Sam teased, "Eh?" as if he couldn't hear. But he grinned broadly and gave him up.

Heather couldn’t help but grin. “Very good, but how would you know to answer me if you couldn’t hear me?”

He shrugged, "MMMmm?" Then, he broke out into a happy smile and chortled. "Sorry. I guess it doesn't take much to amuse me." The sound of the handheld scanner was annoying but Heather was so pleasant he forgot all about it. And before he knew it she had her scans. He was relieved. Bleeding out of the ears was not fun. He unexpectedly said, "You have a...friendly way about you. I guess in your line of work you see all types huh?"

Heather nodded. “Pretty much! I used to be a marine. I was a combat medic, but when I was pregnant with my son I decided to transfer to Officer training. So, as you said I’ve pretty much seen it all.”

"Oh?" he said as she shared that she used to be a combat medic. "Combat medic? Wow. Serious shit there. You know? Best medical advice I get is not from the doctors; but from the medics, the nurse and and on-site medics. Just...I dunno...more real? More...relatable." He shook his head once, "I just get the feeling that as the doctors look over my chart they're asking themselves...y'know...'I need another yacht for weekends'."

Heather grinned, before getting back to business. “Would you mind lying down?” Heather offered a gentle smile. “It’s just so that I can bring up the cradle to get a better reading of your ribs. It won’t take more than a couple of minutes.”

He nodded, "Yeah, no problem" he said and laid back on the biobed. Heather was very kind . In fact, as Sam laid back he remembered that some of the best medical care and advice he got was not from the doctors, but from the nursing staff.

As promised the scan was quick, Heather retracted the cradle and motioned that he could sit up. “If you look at the display on the wall, here’s your scan. As you can see your ribs are healing nicely. It takes a little time for things to properly knit back together, even with modern medical tech. You shouldn’t have any pain associated with the old breaks, I suggest you don’t go doing anything too rough and tumble for a little while. We wouldn’t want you damaging the same area again.”

The scans were so detailed. Every nook and cranny of the bones was being analyzed. A smaller screen, off to the left was analyzing or rendering images of the bone structures interiors. The breaks were in red. Were because he had been patched up. He could even see old wounds. "So...weight training? I could start that again yeah? I've already lost like a whole week. Easy stuff first - would that be OK?" he asked her.

Heather nodded. “Sure, as I said don’t overdo it, and you’ll be fine.”

"Oh? The lethargy? Groggy, foggy, whatever? IDK what the drug was. But, you think it has to be gone by now yeah?"

Heather nodded. “I’m not seeing any traces in your system, your blood pressure is a little elevated, which might account for the lethargy. See how it goes, if it becomes a problem come back and see us.” She smiled warmly. “As for the foggy and groggy-ness try and get a good nights sleep, a good sleep routine should help with that.”

Sam wished he could go to sleep, he was tired enough. But there was a staff meeting in a little more than an hour. His first staff meeting too. He nodded at her advice but said nothing other than, "Yeah, I'm still pumped from being aboard the ship. It's hard to try and find some down time. I do have some time to use the holodeck though - maybe go to the beach or the mountains. Just...relax a bit. Hey? So....I'm good to go and OK for duty?"

Heather nodded. “Just one more thing I need to do.” She picked up a hypo. “I need a blood sample for testing, it’s routine so nothing to worry about.” She pressed it to his arm drawing a small vile of blood. “Right there you go, all done.”

"Thank you Ensign. Really appreciate you seeing me on such short notice. Thanks for everything. Don't take this the wrong way but...I hope not to see you again anytime soon."

Heather grinned. “Likewise Lieutenant. Take care.”

Samuel nodded and left the medical bay. He decided to use the holodeck; hey, it was therapy.
