Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Thunder Dome...

Posted on Tue Jul 26th, 2022 @ 8:32am by Staff Sergeant Liam "Swede" Reece [Reece] & Lieutenant Colonel Azhul Naxea & Lieutenant Samaire MacBride-Reece [Lalor]

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: USS Elysium, Marine County, MCO's office
Timeline: TBD (a few days after "Gretna Green")
1300 words - 2.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Liam and Samaire got up and, after having a family breakfast, got Skylah dressed and off to school. Now that both there was a new teacher, and Hendor was there with her, her truancy had dropped to nearly zero occurrences.

Once she was gone, Liam headed back to the bedroom to jump in the shower. "Are you nervous to speak to the Colonel, sweetheart?" He asked as he waved her over to join him, if she wanted to.

She shook her head and said "No not nervous. You get your shower and I will follow you through. We need to be quick."

"Oh, alright." He pouted playfully. "But I reserve the right to wash you later." He giggled softly then jumped into the shower, setting it to sonics to be faster.

Sam merely rolled her eyes and went to make sure her uniform was neatly pressed.

A few moments later, Liam re-entered their bedroom. As he moved past Samaire, he kissed her gently on the right side of her neck. Then he moved away to start getting dressed in his duty uniform.

The turbolift dropped them right outside the Marine county. Samaire had been here a few times but she had, never had a meeting with the MARDETCOM before.

Holding her right hand in his left, Liam gave it a slight squeeze. "Remember, if she seems annoyed at anyone, it's just at me. But at the end of the day, everything will be fine."

She gave him a smile."I know. I have you, nothing is going to go wrong."

Liam grinned that handsomely boyish grin of his. "That's my girl!" He then led her deeper into Marine County.

A few moments later, they reached the Colonel's office. Liam reached up and pressed the door chime.

===Inside===

"...and next Tuesday, Alpha Platoon is going to be returning to the target range." David spoke to Naxea. "I'm still not fully happy with their performance levels."

The door chime rang.

"Thank you, Captain," she replied as stood with crossed arms before turning her attention to the door. "Enter."

David looked over at the door as it slid open, revealing Sergeant Reece and Lieutenant Samaire MacBride. A small grin started to form on his lips, especially when his eye caught the band on her left ring finger.

After the door slid open, Liam led Samaire inside. Then, after releasing her hand, he snapped to attention and saluted. "Colonel, Captain, thank you for allowing us this meeting.

David saluted back, but let Naxea, as the senior officer present, to speak first.

After standing and returning the salute, Naxea looked between the two and had a feeling on what this meeting was about. "At ease. So, what is the fuss about Sergeant?"

Relaxing his stance, Liam reached out and took Samaire's hand again. "Ma'am, as my commanding officer, I wanted to let you know that, Lieutenant MacBride and I got married a couple days ago. And, as such, respectfully, I will now be moving in to live with my family, Ma'am."

Naxea was silent as she looked at the two who stood before her. She normally hated when enlisted and officers got married. A part of her was still annoyed at the thought of not having an NCO in Marine Country. She walked around her desk, keeping her eyes on the two. "So, you not only got married without informing me, your CO, but you also decided to marry an officer," she looked at MacBride, whom she had seen throughout the ship during her time aboard the Elysium. She had heard good things about her from S'hib. "And now you have the audacity of telling me you're leaving Marine Country?" In reality, she had heard rumors of Reece's engagement--nothing stayed a secret aboard a starship but she wanted him to sweat a little first.

Liam, having grown up with one of the most decorated Command Sergeants Major that the SFMC ever trained, wasn't feeling the nerves another Marine might. He knew that he had followed protocol, mostly. In their excitement, he had forgot to inform the Colonel beforehand, to give her a heads up at least. However, he would not apologize for living his life.

"You are correct, Colonel. And we both apologize for not giving you a proper heads up. Also, while I know my departure from the barracks with drop you an NCO to keep an eye on things, Lance Corporal Tralduga is read for her boards. She has been shadowing me and Gunny Moses since I came aboard, Ma'am. She is ready to be tested and get her stripe. Also, I will still stand my overnight watch details as you and Captain Tonelly have put forth. The only thing that will change is that, now, most nights, I will be billiting with my family, Ma'am."

"Well, I'm not buying it, Sergeant," she said sternly as she returned behind her desk and pressed a panel, opening a lower cabinet. She pulled out a green bottle with Rihannsu written on the bottle's label and held it out for Reece and MacBride. "At least not until you accept this," she smiled. "Romulan Ale. Year 2377. Do drink it carefully, and congratulations." She had bought the bottle long ago but decided against opening it as a Sequus and alcohol didn't mix well so she decided to keep it on hand for a special occasion.

Liam was caught off guard by the sudden switch in his COs demeanor. Then he grinned broadly as he accepted the bottle. "Thank you, Ma'am!" He looked over the bottle, impressed by the vintage. "Ma'am, this...this..."

"Rather expensive, but also worth it," she shrugged, smiling at seeing Reece's confused reaction. Before S'hib, she would have been annoyed but now that she was getting married and also pregnant, her views on certain things had changed. She would not stand in the way of any of her Marines being happy, especially marrying a good officer such as Lieutenant MacBride. She turned to the woman. "Now, if he ever gives you any trouble, you just let me know," she winked.

"Yes Ma'am. Thank you." Samaire said honestly to the Colonel.

Liam smiled as he looked over at his new bride. He then looked back at Naxea. "We will accept this wonderful gift, Ma'am, only if, once you have your baby, you share the first glasses with us."

"Very well. Something tells me I am going to need it after the birth," she joked.

Liam grinned and chuckled. "I'm sure, between you and Commander S'hib, that baby will be marching straight in no time, Ma'am."

David grinned at Liam's statement. While he hadn't said anything, he could already feel the energy from Naxea's baby. It was certainly strong and healthy.

"Thank you," Naxea replied. "Is there anything you needed for your move?" she asked the pair.

Liam thought about the offer, then shook his head. "Not that I can think of, Ma'am. I can clear out of my barracks room within the hour. Then once my leave is over. In three days, I'll be able to resume my duties as one of your squad leaders, Colonel."

"That's good to hear. You're dismissed," she stated, still grinning.

David stepped forward, offering his hand to the happy couple. "Congratulations you two." He offered them an honest smile.

"Thank you, Sir!" Liam replied happily as he shook David's hand.

Samaire smiled and shook his hand after Liam. "Thank you Captain."

David nodded to both. "If either of you need anything, you can call me any time."

"Thank you, Sir," Liam said again. "That's very generous of you to offer."

Samaire nodded in agreement and linked her arm through Liam's. "Thank you both for your time." She said politely as she and Liam headed for the door.

Aww!

How sweet! The best part about it is the free bottle of rare and expensive Romulan Ale. I mean - score - right there.

Now, living in the barracks is getting a bad rap 'round here. What is so bad about gun-metal floors that get hosed down with cold water twice a day? And who doesn't like to fall asleep with the sound of drill instructors and training workouts as lullaby's in the background? Who wouldn't like a gym right outside their front door and a communal bathroom open 24/7 cleaned by marines who've had too much 'shoreleave' ay? It's like a Motel 6; and we'll leave the lights on for ya'.

Congrats on your lil' ol' wedding and move out. Just remember this: A friend will help you move. A good friend will help you move a body.
