Anna checked the Elysium's Marine Country out. "Hey dear... So these are the Elysium's Marines... They don't look so tough, in fact, they all look like they're some kind of wet noodles."
Josh nodded his head and gave Anna a sideways glance as he spoke, "That's what I heard sweetie, that this is where the marines stayed, but it looks like they lounge around and eat doughnuts."
"You ain't kidding love.. Look at this one." Anna stares at David. "He looks like he's an exile from a nineties boy band."
"I think you are right darling. Though more like a garage band then a boys band." Josh replied.
David was finishing his last set on the free weights when he heard the conversation between the two new arrivals. From the report he had been given, he knew that they had been on Captain Lalor's Covert Ops team. Following the successful completion of their mission, it seemed that most of that crew had chosen to follow the Captain back home. David thought that was both respectful and showed true loyalty. Now, however, there were just another pair of new officers to lead his and the Colonel's Marines.
As he sat up and grabbed his towel, he responded aloud, without even looking at them. "First of all, I'm into country music, the good stuff from the 1950s to the 1980s. And second," he stood and faced them both. "The only doughnuts around here is the secret stash that Gunny Moses has squirrelled away somewhere...and I highly suggest you leave them be if you find them. He can get real persnickety when someone messes with his stuff."
Woolheater turned the corner after leaving the head and saw the group standing there. For Sam, this was the middle of the "night" as he had the late shift. He stifled a yawn. He didn't hear but just the last part of the sentence. Ready to get back to bed Sam only stopped for a moment. There was tension in the air.
"Thanks for the tip, we'll just have to make sure he doesn't catch us." Josh bantered back.
Sam looked at their body language, the way they stood and the way they sounded. As if they had a chip on their shoulder or an axe to grind. He was still tired. And if this wasn't happening he'd be getting up in two hours anyway, enough of the bullshit; he stayed. Captain Tonelly was here with an interrupted workout. And there are just some things you don't do. Don't interrupt Mon Capitan's workout. Tonelly was on his feet facing them - so - somebody was going to be getting a trip to sickbay or at the very least their asses kicked. "We good here Cap'n?" Sam asked.
David looked over at Woolheater. "It's all good, Sam. Go hit the rack." He then looked over at the other two. "As for you two, do you make it a habit of not knowing who is in your chain of command? And here I thought that Mattias said you were smart." He crossed his arms over his broad chest, exuding authority.
"Damn, these marines are sharp, love." Anna noted.
Josh nodded. "Right you are Anna, sharp as tacks."
Dressed in her typical PT gear, Gunnery Sergeant Gami took a break from the heavy bag to watch the exchange from Captain Tonelly and two Marines she didn't recognize but she could sense the hostility from the XO. 'Hey, prego-boss,' she mentally projected to Naxea. 'Might want to get down to our fitness center. There are some issues.' Due to their close friendship, Gami could project thoughts to Naxea. She swore she could sense annoyance on the other end.
Woolheater nodded at his Captain's command, casting his eyes to Hendrix and Young and then back to Tonelly. "Ooorah Cap'n. Semper gumby" which was Sam's way of saying covertly, ~I got your back if you need it and I'm flexible to go back to sleep or to take out the trash Cappy~. Woolheater walked behind them, taking his time and then left the area and returned to his quarters.
"I like them, Josh. They got balls." Anna replied.
"Me too sweetie, they got titanium balls. They're the real deal, not some wanna be marines.'
Anna grinned. "Sorry about all that. We wanted to know if you were the real deal. I'm Anna Hendrix. This is Josh Young. Both of us have survived almost five tours of duty. Survived by sticking together."
Josh nodded and smiled as Anna spoke. " A pleasure." Josh answered. "What Anna says is true and apologies for ruffling of feathers. We've survived because I trust Anna and she trusts me...completely."
David considered the pair for a moment longer, then grinned lightly. "That's good to hear. At the end of the day, all we have are our brother and sister to the left and right to keep us safe." Wiping the sweat from his chest and arms, he tilted his head to the right as he moved, indicating the new arrivals should follow him. "As I said earlier, you should learn your new chain of command. I'm Captain David Tonelly, your new MXO. Time for you to meet the Colonel." He paused, turning back slightly, raising his left arm to stop Joshua in his tracks.
"A word of warning, while I might have a hard shell from time to time, I strongly suggest that you don't piss off the Colonel. She's not as forgiving as I am." He then started moving again, leading them to the Colonel's office. Once the reached the door, he knocked, telling Naxea that was him, using the agreed upon signal. He then waited for her permission to enter. While he did, he looked at Anna and Josh.
"You two wait here until the I can you in, understood?
Josh nodded his head, "Understood Captain, we don't want to get off on the wrong foot with the Colonel." He gave Anna a sideways glance. " Keep your lips sealed Anna, no wise cracks.''
Upon hearing her permission to enter, David walked into Naxe's office, leaving the two newly arrived Marines out in the corridor.
===Inside===
Naxea stood with her arms crossed and sitting on the edge of the desk with a not too happy look. "Mind telling me what the hell was going on? I got a telepathic message from Gunny Gami saying blows were about to be exchanged."
Standing a little informally, David summed up what had happened. "While they seem a bit rough, I was informed by Mattias that they are very competent operators. I say we run them through a few different simulations, get an understanding as to their specific strengths. Then we could figure out where to assign them, Boss."
"We'll see, but they had better check their attitude at the door or I'll make sure their next duty station is guarding the embassy on Andor. Are they with you then?"
He tilted his head back towards the door. "They're waiting outside." He then turned back and pressed the door controls, opening them. "Front and center, Marines!"
Josh entered with Anna beside him, they came to attention snapped off letter perfect salutes to Naxea and waited for her recognition of said salutes.
Naxea returned the salutes. "At ease. So, I understand you two are transferring from Diplomatic Protection to this Detachment?"
Josh went into a at ease stance, he shared a look with Anna, "Um, beg pardon Colonel but no, we're assigned to the Diplomatic Protection team with Captain Richardson."
"Then please do explain your presence in Marine Country. Challenging my Marines?" her gaze leveled at Josh. Naxea wasn't a fan of anyone save for Marines from her detachment and cleared personnel to be allowed in Marine Country as any unnecessary visitors often caused issues such as the one that nearly occurred earlier.
"Let's go Josh. They don't want us here, they don't like us." Anna noted then looked at Mattias. "I'm going back to freelancing, Mattias. This is the same Marine corps that left me to die on Atten IV. You'll have my resignation in the morning." She walked down the corridor. "I make light with them. And suddenly, Little miss Bajoran comes out and says we're challenging them. Not caring was so much easier than this."
"Wait a second Anna." Josh didn't back down as he met Nazea's gaze. "Excuse me Colonel but aren't marines assigned to the Diplomatic Protection Team marines? As for challenging your marines, we weren't, His voice we were testing them, their mettle. I, we apologize if they're feathers were ruffled. We meant no offense ma'am."
Naxea stood from her desk, fuming as she looked from Josh to Anna. "I will have you know that I have never left anyone behind, lieutenant, so stow the attitude! I have set expectations for the Marines of my detachment. You will find no better fighters and Marines than those of the Sixty-Second. But I will not tolerate your attitudes, obvious lack of discipline, and respect for the chain of command. That being said, I don't mind sparring matches as long as it's done in a ring. You want to take a tour of Marine Country, go ahead but be sure to pay close attention to the energy scouring on some of the bulkheads," she continued her speech. "Those marks are a reminder to me and everyone here what happens when we let our guard down--over fifty Marines died in that fighting and I will not let their deaths be in vain. Do you get me?"
"Loud and clear Colonel." Josh replied. He was the calmer of the two between him and Anna. "I say again we were testing them, Not questioning they're skill or dedication. We also take the death of any marine very seriously and is something we would never joke about." His voice level and calm but firm. His gaze continued to be locked on Naxea's.
"Very well. You can remain but I am afraid that with your partner's actions, she will have to spend some time in the Brig. I will not be addressed with a total lack of respect--one which I have earned," Naxea said before turning and pressing a panel on her desk. "Colonel Azhul to Officer of the Day, escort Lieutenant Hendrix to the Brig." It was a shame because Hendrix's attitude reminded her of Gunny Gami's, though at least Gami could reel it in--at least sometimes.
"Thank you, Colonel, and in regard to Anna, that is Lieutenant Hendrix, I know you don't owe me a thing and we got off to a rocky start. However, can you release Anna to me, my custody? She is a hell of a marine Colonel, none better but sometimes she gets um carried away. I'll be responsible for her keeping her mouth shut." Josh stated politely.
Naxea was silent as the Officer of the Day entered the office. Letting out a sigh, she looked at Anna and then to Josh. "Officer of the Day, disregard and return to your post."
"Aye, ma'am," he replied as he exited the office.
"Very well, Lieutenant. But one more outburst like that from her and she will be in the Brig until I get tired...and I don't tire easily," she stated sternly as she crossed her arms and sat back down on the edge of her desk.
"Yes, Colonel and thank you ma'am. It is clearly understood." Josh answered greatly relieved that the Colonel had granted his request. She had gone up several notches in his book.
It would be hard not to notice someone getting escorted BACK into the Colonel's office. And, sho'nuff there were a few gawkers. Two of them from Woolheater's 1st Platoon observing the action asked the other one, "Who is having their butt thrown in the brig?" The other slowly shook his head, "Hell if I know. Couple of marines. I seen them before. Y'know. Around?" To which the first replied, "Yeah? What's their problem?" And he was answered with, "Don't know; but Colonel straightened out whatever burr they had up their ass. Tonelly was doing his workout - and that was that." They both looked in the direction of Colonel Azhul's office, "Huh!"
After everyone left the office, David looked over at Naxea and offered, "After I grab a quick shower and fresh uniform, I'll go speak to Richardson about this. Unless, of course. You'd rather deal with it, Ma'am?
"I'll deal with Richardson," Naxea stated. "I'm sure he will want to speak to me anyways after what happened."
David nodded, then excused himself. He needed a shower before he met Baeryn for dinner later.
Unobserved and with one eye open in disgust like Popeye the Sailor, a drill sergeant came over to the gym area and spooked the two marines from the first platoon. He grabbed them both by the ears and yelled, "What the hell you standing for? Don't you have somewhere to be? 'Cause if you don't then I am sure that I can find plenty for you two clowns to do. If you have time to stand there and gawk at the pretty people, then you must have time to shine up the armory?"
In pain but too afraid to show it they said, "No sergeant sir! Very busy sir! Just making sure Marine Country is secure sir!"
"What the hell are you talking about?! I don't see no border patrol patches on your sleeves? Who do you think is going to invade Marine Country? Do you think they slipped past shipside Security?"
"Don't know Sergeant! A marine is ever vigilant and prepared sir!" one answered.
"IF somebody was so stupid as to try and invade marine country do you think they would use the turbolift and the front door?! My god man! You know what *I'm* going to do? I'm going to release your ears from my vice-like grip and I'm going to count to five. And I had better see your asses hitting the gym mat and giving me twenty-five marine perfect pushups!"
He released their ears and they dropped to the floor, "ONE, TWO, THREE..." the sergeant yelled while the two gawkers did their reps.

Hello all,
This is such an interesting post. It started off so clear and I thought I knew where it was going. And then, the track changed and it went off in a new direction. I couldn't tell if what happened was planned/plotted or if it was unexpected and random? A testament to all y'all's mastery of the wordful arts.
I can't wait to see what in the world will happen with this Richardson character and poor Anna! It's like going through a car wash with the windows down. Sure, its refreshing but now you have a different problem.
