Another checkup

Posted on Mon Oct 10th, 2022 @ 10:08am by Lieutenant Colonel Azhul Naxea & Commander Sthilg

Mission: Season 5: Time Warp
Location: Sickbay; USS Elysium
Timeline: Day after the Special Event JP
1038 words - 2.1 OF Standard Post Measure

Walking more slowly than she would like, Naxea approached the doors to Sickbay, dressed in her maternity uniform, which she hated--it made her seem bigger than she was. She was scheduled for another wellness exam. Right now, she was mentally cursing the size of the Elysium. A moment later, she stepped into Sickbay.

Sthilg heard the doors open and jumped out of his seat at who had stepped through the doors. " Azhul I've told you I can come and sssee you in your quatersss." He said the concern in his voice being unmistakable.

"You did, but I need the exercise," she replied, after taking in a few deep breaths. "And I read that walking is good for you during pregnancy." 'Whoever wrote that was a man,' she thought as her ankles had been bothering her for the past five minutes.

"Well let'sss get you onto a biobed and off your feet." Sthilg said as he helped the pregnant marine onto one of the biobed. " Any complaints?" He inquired.

"Let's see...tiredness, swollen, aching ankles, my midsection being nearly four times as large as it used to be. And if this kid in me pushes on my bladder one more time, I'm going to strangle her when she's born. Oh, and alot of heartburn lately," Naxea said as she sat down on the bio bed.

" Ah the joysss of motherhood." Sthilg responded with a reassuring grin as his arm started scanning the marine. " I can up your medication for the sssymptomesss. Hasss the coating aided with the kicking?" he inquired.

"It has. The sedative has helped but her kicks are beginning to become more often the farther along I get, and she is a hell of a kicker," she responded, wondering what she would decide to become. With two parents in Starfleet, it was rather obvious that she would join as well but Naxea would support her no matter what.

"Ssshe'sss definitely her fathersss daughter. " Sthilg said reassuringly as he ran his hands over her belly a hologram of the growing hybrid showing how much she'd grown.

Naxea stared at the hologram of her unborn baby. It still unbelievable that she had a growing life inside her. She looked down at her stomach. 'Ok, screw that, I can believe it,' she thought as she looked back up at the hologram. "Is she healthy?" she couldn't help herself but ask.

"Very. For a first-time hybrid ssshe'sss doing jussst fine." Sthilg replied with a warm smile.

Naxea continued to stare at the hologram for a minute before looking at Sthilg. "I'm not normally one to complain but is there anything you can do about the symptoms I'm experiencing?"

" I can up your medication and we sssee if that helpsss, but if I go much higher it could put her at risssk." Sthilg replied, " Is that husband of yoursss helping out?" The lizard inquired.

Naxea grinned at the thought of S'hib going out of his way for her lately. He even had a bedding set up for the baby already. "Yes, he's been very helpful. He would have come but he's busy with work at the moment. Plus I know he would have insisted that I stay in bed. He even hates the fact that I'm still working."

Sthilg smiled at her reaction. " He'sss going to be a wonderful father as you will be a great mother. " He said as he worked his wrist computer to up her medication. " Now my dear I hope you don't mind me asking, but regarding bajorian birthing ritualsss do you have anything planned." He inquired calmly.

"To be honest, I haven't given it that much thought as I have been too busy with work lately," she admitted. "Someplace away from S'hib, that's for sure," she joked as Bajorans needed absolute peace and quiet during their birthing ceremonies which was the complete opposite of S'hib.

"You know he'd be heartbroken if he wasssn't there. Not that I think we could ssstop him even if we wanted to." The doctor replied with a slight chuckle.

"True, I just hope he can behave himself during the birth," she replied hoping S'hib wouldn't do anything to cause the birthing to go wrong. She was already nervous about not using pain relievers during the process as the baby was now almost the size of a fully developed Bajoran child with at least a month and a half more to go.

"I'm sssure he'll do nothing even if you crusssh hisss hand. " Sthilg chuckled. " Would you like me to sssend you sssome musssic examplesss to help you relax during the birth?" He added.

"Sure, that would be great, Sthilg," Naxea replied, nodding slightly. "Thank you. Is there anything else I should be doing?"

" Relax as much asss possssisble. If you have any painsss or achesss call me at once and I'll come running." the old doctor replied.

"Will do," Naxea replied with a slight nod of her head. Though she hated the normal aches and pains she was having with the pregnancy.

" Oh how could I forget." The doctor said as he hurried into his office before he emerged with a grey delivery box. " I had sssome freindsss in the hybrid food department wip thisss up for you. Sssequusss sssafe chocolate." He said beaming.

Naxea smiled as she accepted the box, looking at it for a moment before opening it. The smell of delicious chocolate touched her nose. She popped a piece into her mouth, savoring the sweetness of it. It was difficult enough not to be able to drink her normal Raktijino but it was hell when she had a craving for chocolate and not be able to have any. "Delicious. Thank you," she said as she finished chewing and swallowed the piece of chocolate.

"Glad to help. Don't eat it all at once." Sthilg said with a warm happy smile on his face. Another satisfied patient.

"No promises," she teased as she slowly slid off of the bio bed. 'Time to waddle my large ass back down to my quarters,' she thought. I'll see you around," she waved at Sthilg.

"Take care and call me if anything feelsss wrong." The gorn replied as he waved after her.

So glad that everyone is in stable condition and not horsing around here. It's important to Show up to your appointments. To Place the needs of others ahead of your own and then its a Win for everybody. No need to Jockey for position with anybody. And yes, I know that this is not your first rodeo. You control the reins of your own health because you are in the saddle. Follow "The Gorn's" orders so as not to stirrup trouble. If you do, Doc might have to horseshoe you back into sickbay. And nobody wants to see the Colonel having to hoof it down to medical to avoid being branded a 'bad patient'. So, its just best to pony up to the responsibility, for now at least, just be the mane event and take your licks now. You'll avoid the baby stampede later. Nicely done post too.
