Ensign Sr'au had made it through meeting her Commanding Officer and her Mental Health check. Those boxes were clearly checked. Now all she needed to complete was her boarding physical. She kept this for last, as she was most confident in her health.
Entering sick bay, she registered to be seen and sat in the waiting area for someone to greet her and take her to be seen by a physician. A tall human man entered wearing a security uniform. He was a Chief Petty Officer. His blue eyes seemed piercing. The man registered, then turned.
Chief Petty Officer Sean O'Keefe saw the attractive feline. He smirked and greeted her with, "HELLO KITTY!"
Mrera was startled enough to activate her claws and glared at the man. "Do I know you?'
He chuckled and responded, "No, but i' would be nice to know you."
Sr'au didn't know how to take this giant of a man. He seemed friendly enough, but a tad rude. Did he take his speech as being flirtatious? Should he get to know her before acting in this manner?
She retracted her claws and insisted, "Well, ssit down and speak to me like I'm a persson."
O'Keefe chuckled, "Don' mind me, Ensign.."
"Ssr'au," Mrera added.
"Ensign Sr'au," O'Keefe returned, holding out his hand for a shake. "I'm Sean O'Keefe. Nice to meet ya! Don' mind me, Miss Sr'au..."
"Enssign," she chimed.
"I was jus' actin' the maggot," O'Keefe replied. "I'm new aboard and woul' definitely like to know more people."
"I'm new ass well," Mrera added.
"I like yer lil' lisp there," O'Keefe added.
Mrera raised her brows at this. This could be a long wait if someone didn't get her soon.
Fortunately, the chief md shuffled over just at the right moment. " Ensign Mrera?" he asked the small crowd in the reception area.
A relieved look came across her feline features. Standing, she said, "Purrfect timing. That's me."
O’Keefe gave a toothy grin. “Until we meet again, Miss Kitty. My name is Sean O’Keefe. I’m sure we’ll be good friends. Let’s get together after and have the craic!”
Sr’au didn’t know how to take the man. He spoke strange and seemed very forward. She rolled her slits of eyes and replied, “I’ve got to get my physsical. I will think about it.”
" Thisss way pleassse, I'm doctor Ssstilg chief md of the boat." Sthilg said politely.
Heather approached from the nurse’s office offering a warm smile. “I see Sickbay is getting a little busy” she smiled at Sthilg and those waiting.
“I an Enssigb Sr’au,” the Caitian said. “Pleasure to meet you. I am here for my boarding check-up.” The Ensign turned and followed the doctor.
Seeing the redhead enter, Sean perked up more. Another attractive woman. He knew he was going t enjoy being on this ship. “‘Ello, Ginger!” he greeted the newcomer.
“Hello yourself” Heather grinned. “Looks like it’s me and you, would you like to follow me?” She led him to the nearest biobed. “Just take a seat on the biobed and I’ll get you sorted.”
“Yes, ma’am!” O’Keefe agreed. “I’m at yer biddin.” He hopped upon the biobed. “I’m in yer ‘ands!”
Heather smiled. “You’re safe with me!” She picked up a medical tricorder. “Anything in your medical history I should be aware of? Any recent injuries that I need to check over?”
“Ya mean aside from the uptick in me ‘eartbeat after layin eyes on a certain ginger?” O’Keefe asked with a grin. “Na, nothin’ new!”
“Oh so that’ll be why your heart rate is beating so fast” Heather grinned a wry grin. “Okay let’s run a quick set of vitals, so I can get a new baseline. Just relax and I’ll be done in no time at all.”
“Ta’e all the time ye need,” Sean elaborated. “I’m enjoyin’ the scenery!”
Sean laid back in the biobed, not taking his eyes off the pretty redhead. With his recent lack of luck, she’d be taken. He thought he’d give it a shot.
“So,” he slowly asked, “after yer shift, do ye ‘ave any plans?”
Heather smiled warmly as she ran her preliminary scans. “Actually I do, to return home to my husband and son.”
“In that case,” Sean said with a frown, “I need immediate medical attention. Ye jes’ broke me ‘eart!”
Heather couldn’t help but grin. “Ohh don’t worry there’s plenty more pretty women onboard this ship! I’m sure you’ll find someone.”
O’Keefe grinned again, knowing the truth of Heather’s statement. He had seen many. Many took Sean’s philosophy the wrong way. Yes, he loved the ladies, but when it came down to it, once he formed a close relationship with one, he became very loyal to that one.
It was different with the whiskey and weapons. Different circumstances called for different libations and/or weapons. Ladies were goddesses, and he appreciated every one.
“We’ll,” O’Keefe affirmed, “yer ‘usband is one lucky man! I’m sure yer son ‘as ab excellent mother. What do ye think, am I ‘ealthy?”
“You’re looking very healthy indeed” Heather smiled warmly. “I don’t see any reason to be keeping you from you duties. Unless there’s anything you need me to check over before you go?”
“Nah!” declared the Irishman. “I’m as fit as a fiddle! Howe’er I could use yer advice on off duty activities. Any suggestions?”
“Well...there’s the usual holodeck activities, there’s quite a few crew members who enjoy regular poker nights, there’s fitness classes in the gym, as well as sparring contests! The list goes on...” Heather grinned.
As he listened to her, Sean put each into a category of one of the three W’s of his philosophy of life: women, whiskey, and weapons. If a suggestion didn’t fit any of those areas, it was nixed from the list of options. Holodeck: there he could practice his marksmanship. Poker nights: there, the whiskey would be flowing like a river. Fitness Classes: there would be good number of ladies there. Sparring: Sean would be able to try any of his historic weapons collections there, if weapons were allowed.
“Those are good suggestions,” O’Keefe affirmed in an appreciative manner. “Do ye give me a clean bill o’ ‘ealth?”
Heather checked her readouts. “Everything looks good to me, any problems please come back and see us.”
Sean grinned, his pearly whites gleaming. “Ye can count on it! I ne’er pass up a chance to see a pretty lady! Thank ye fer the clean bill o’ health.”
“My pleasure!” Heather smiled warmly. “It’s nice to have such a charming patient.”
“Then I’ll be takin’ me leave,” Sean replied. He turned before exiting, “I jus’ wanna warn ye, I may need medical attention e’er day from a sexy lady like ye.” He chuckled, then left.

Approaching his office the gorn tapped the biobed. " Have a ssseat Sssra'au. Any illnesssss of injuriesss not on your file sssince your last ssscan?" He inquired
“I’m in purtty good health, I would ssay,” Sr’au answered. “I get my exerssize climbing and hiking. I try to sstay in sshape.”
The gorn noted that as he indicated her to sit on the rooms biobed. " Take a ssseat and let'sss take a look at you."
The Caitian officer nodded as she sat back on the biobed. She realized this was all routine. Much like what she had seen all the engineers doing as they ran diagnostics while docked, the physical, mental health exam and all was routine. She trusted the good doctor’s profession.
" Jusssst lay back my dear I've been doing thisss for over two hundred yearsss." The gorn said as he started up the computer.
Ensign Sr’au followed the doctor’s orders. She laid back upon the biobed, her tail wrapped about her and held by her hand against her abdomen.
" Ssso how are you finding the ssship so far?" the gorn inquired from his station.
“It’ss been a pleassant experience,” Mrera answered. “I’m enjoying my post, meeting new people, and hoping to find trussting friendss. I’d ssay Purrfect so far!”
" That'sss good to know. I'm sssure you'll think off usss asss family in no time." The gorn replied warmly as the results began to come through.
“That’ss good to know, my good doctor!” Mrera replied.
The gorn nodded as he looked at the results coming in. " Everythingssss looking good." he stated camly.
“Sso,” Mrera asked, “I am clear for service?”
" I sssee no reason not to be able to clear you fit for duty." He replied with a smile.
“Thank you Doctor,” Mrera expressed. “I’ll be sseeing you then. Hopefully, not professsionally!”

Out in the waiting area, Sean practically ran over Mrera. He was in a hurry to begin his down time. He promised Commander Taylor he’d only drink when off duty.
“I’m sorry, ensign,” O’Keefe insisted. “Le’ me make it up to ye. A drink?”
“If that meanss a milksshake,” Mrera mused, “I’m in.”
Together they walked to Ten Forward. Sean beamed that he got the attention of at least one beautiful lady.
