Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: The in-between place
729 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure

There was a steady snowfall outside, theat could be seen through the window in the den. The fireplace had a comfortable, inviting fire, crackling away. The Christmas decorations were all tastefully set around the room, with a large Douglas fir in the corner, completely decked out and filled with presents at the bottom. Positioned on the otherside of the fireplace, was a large, comfortable-looking wing back chair. Seated in it, reading an old, leather-bound book, was David Tonelly.

Looking up towards the reader, David smiles warmly as he starts to speak. "Well hello boy and girls! Welcome to my home. I hope you all have been having a wonderful holiday season. While I know there are those who celebrate other important holidays at this time of the year, tonight, I'll be focusing on the Christian faith, and reading to you, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. So, get comfortable, enjoy the hot cocoa and cookies that are being passed around, and I will begin." He opened the book he was holding and began to read.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the ship
not a creature was stirring, not even a Sequus.

The phasers were charging in the armory with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The crew's children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.

And Phoenix in her 'kerchief, and Mattias in his cap,
had just settled their brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the hull there arose such a clatter,
Kyle Reece sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window Gary flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
gave the lustre of midday to objects below,

when, what to Sthilg's wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature shuttlecraft and eight tiny reindeer.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
so up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
with the cargobay full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, Lia heard on the hull
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As Naxea drew in her head and was turning around,
down the Jeffries tube St. Nicholas came with a bound

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
and Thor laughed when he saw him, in spite of himself.

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave J'airesh to know she had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his shuttle, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But Woolheater heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

David closed the book and smiled to the readers again. "Well, boys and girls. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday of their particular faith, and receives everything that they wish for. Above all else, I hope and pray that each and every one of you have a happy and healthy holiday season! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!"

~FIN~

OOC Bill: I hope everyone is safe, healthy and happy out there. Happy Chanukah! Merry Christmas! Have a Blessed Kwansa! Happy New Year!!
