Reporting an incident

Posted on Fri Nov 14th, 2025 @ 2:14pm by Commander Kyle Reece & Captain David Tonelly [Reece] & Avalon [ADMIN NPC] & Cadet Sophomore Grade Elaria Carlyle

Mission: Season 6: Episode 6: Conglomerate
Location: Commander Reece's office.
Timeline: Md2 midday
2053 words - 4.1 OF Standard Post Measure

The Cadet stepped up to the Chief of Security's door and hit the chime. Elaria Carlyle, no relation to Josephine Carlyle, was shaking but she had to report it. Report that officers had left cadets in a hall being attacked after one of theirs was killed.

David stood next to Cadet Carlyle as they waited to be admitted into Commander Reece's office. Looking over at Elaria, he gave her a supportive nod. "Remember, just give him the facts, don't embellish, alright?"

The cadet nodded. The door opened in its slow yet concise movement. Taking a breath, Elaira stepped into the office.

David followed her inside, giving Kyle a polite grin. "Commander Reece, Thank you for seeing us. As I indicated over my message, my young cadet here, Cadet Elaria Carlyle, wishes to report something that she witnessed, turning the recent attack." He then turns his gaze to Carlyle and gave her a supportive grin, nodding his head.

Kyle nodded to both as they entered his office. "Mister Tonelly," he kept it brief, as he could feel that what was about to be discussed was serious. Looking over at the cadet, he nodded his head to her, gently saying, "Go on, Cadet. You have my undivided attention."

Elaira took a breath. “Sir, during the combat, I was with a few other cadets. We were led by Cadet Clary Henderson, who died during the attack. We came around a corner and spotted two officers. When Clary was explaining that we were being chased, she was shot in the back by the enemy and died. The two officers fled into the tubes and sealed the hatch behind them, leaving us in the corridor. Sir, they were the Vulcan Counselor, who is married to the chief and a nurse, I think she is married to an enlisted security officer.”

This news troubled Kyle. Starfleet officers running away in combat was one thing, not everyone was trained to be fighters like he was. However, to deliberately hamper the escape of those junior to you, to save your own ass? That was something he would not abide. He typed several commands into his PADD and the face of Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen hovered above his desk. "Is this the the Vulcan counsellor that you were referring too, Cadet Carlyle?" His voice grew serious as he continued. "Before you reply, think about it and answer honestly. Bare in mind that falsely accusing a senior officer is a serious charge."

Elaria's face hardened. "I am not lying. And Yes that is the officer." She was seething. "The nurse was a red head." she added. "I started a written statement but I don't know the names, who is that?"

Kyle saw the reaction to his poor use of words and reacted accordingly. "Calm down, Miss Carlyle. I wasn't accusing you of lying. I was merely ensuring that what you tell me is one hundred percent factual. That, if the evidence shows that the claims are incorrect, there would be consequences." After letting that sink in, he continued calmly. "And i sm not saying that you didn't see what you saw. I wasn't there." He took another breath, then continued.

"Now, before we continue, you said that you were with the deceased Cadet Henderson and two other cadets. What are their names?"

"Cadet Miranda Davidson, and Cadet Joelle Tillman." came the calm response. "Davidson is in science, Tillman is in Flight control, second years. Also there were three first year cadets," She searched her brain for their names. "Cadets Harry Smithfield, I think he is in the Medical Track, Cadet Joseph Harrison, Security Track and Cadet Norlin ch'Kirak, Engineering Track. Clary insisted on making sure they came with us. She didn't want them being left behind."

As Kyle heard the names, his anger continued to grow, though it didnt show on his face. "Thank you, Miss Carlyle. Ill be sure to speak to each of them as well." He took in a short breath, then replied to her question. "That," he indicated the floating image. "Is Lieutenant Commander Savar." He started typing into his desk interface as he asked, "You saud the woman he was with had red hair. Can you give me any further details?" He knew that there were only a handful of female redheads on board, and he had an incline as to whom Carlyle was referring to.

"She is in medical. A nurse. Had two young children with her. I am not 100% sure but I think she is married to a security officer."

As soon as she said, Kyle knew exactly whom Carlyle was referring to. He typed a few commands, and the face of Lieutenant JG Heather De La Rosa took the place that Savar's face had been visible. Her name was also visible below the image. "Is this the woman you saw?"

Elaria nodded. "Yes Sir. She was scared, we all were."

Kyle nodded in understanding. "From what you saw," he lifted a cautionary hand to her, "not felt..saw...did they both seem to be choosing to leave you all there, or was it more one than the other?"

Elaria considered it. "More him than her but she definitely was not stopping him." She crossed her arms. "To quote Joelle - “They left us! They fucking left us!” Sorry for the swear words Sir."

Her apology made Kyle chuckle softly. "Trust me, Cadet, I've said much worse than that in my time." He looked over at David and said, "I'll need to speak to each of the other cadets that were there, David."

David nodded. "I'll have them come see you in whatever schedule you need."

Kyle nodded his thanks, then looked back at Carlyle. "Is there anything else you can tell me about the incident, Miss Carlyle? No detail is too small."

Elaira considered it again, closing her eyes as she revisited the events of the prior day. ""Move! Up the ladder we must distance ourselves." - that's what he said to them. As he pushed them inside and followed them in, and pulled the hatch closed." Her eyes opened. "Sir, if Captain Tonelly and his team had not come along, We would be dead like Clary."

Kyle's face was stone, as he nodded thoughtfully, his eyes locked on hers. "Well, im glad you and the other cadets are still with us. I wish we could say the same for the others." He got quiet for a few beats, then shock his head as he continued to speak. "Thank you for coming in and reporting what happened, Cadet. I might ask you in later, if I have any more questions. From this point on, do NOT discuss this incident with anyone outside of this room. Not even the other cadets. Understood?"

"Yes Sir" She pulled a PADD from her pocket and typed on it. She then handed it over. "My written statement.

Kyle took the PADD and quickly read it over, nodding with approval as he did so. When he was finished, he put it down and looked Carlyle in the eyes. "This is an outstanding report, Cadet," he gave her a soft grin. "If im not careful, you'll come gunning for my job and send me to the old age home." He chuckled softly, when grew serious again.

"I'll reach out to you if I have any more." He nodded, standing and offering his right hand to her. "Thank you for coming in, Cadet Carlyle."

"Sirs," She saluted and left the office.

After she left, Kyle looked at David. "She's certainly got the fire for the job." His grin then fell too a scowl. "I still can't believe Savar did that! Its not like this is the first enemy engagement he's been in!"

David shook his sadly, "Commander, I've seen many things in my long life. Ive known hardened warriors suddenly loose their stomach for combat and bloodshed at the slightest event. Even Vulcans, with all of their devotion to logic, can forget themselves at a crucial time." He let out a short breath. "While I dont approve of what he did, and there should be repercussions for his actions, all im saying is that, he's mortal and for whatever reason made a bad m8stake at the wrong time. Thankfully, no one else was killed by his actions."

Kyle nodded as he listened to the El Aurian speak. "You're right. Of course, he did still fail to heaven like a senior rank Starfleet officer should. For that alone, he will have to face some form of punishment." He then looked at David and gave the older man a soft grin. "And when we're alone, you can just call me Kyle, David. Your age supersedes my rank, at least while no obe else is around." He offered his hand to David, who took it readily.

"Thank you, Kyle." He then released the younger man's hand and added, "send me the times that my cadets should come see you and ill make sure they do."

Kyle nodded. "Provably won't be until later in the week. We're still picking up the pieces from the attack."

David nodded, then left Kyle to do his work.

STARFLEET ACADEMY – WITNESS STATEMENT

FILE: TBD
WITNESS: Cadet Elaria Carlyle
YEAR: Cadet, Second Year – Security Track
VESSEL: USS Elysium (NCC-89000)
STATEMENT DATE: 02 May 2398

I. Personal Information

Name: Cadet Elaria Marie Carlyle

Age: 19

Academy Major: Security & Tactical Operations

Assignment at Time of Incident: Deck 15, Academy Annex – Emergency Response Group Delta

II. Statement of Events (Submitted by Cadet Carlyle)

“This is my official account of the events on Deck 15 during the Galatonian incursion.”

At approximately 1500 hours, myself and five other Cadets—led by Cadet Sophmore Grade Clary Henderson—were retreating from Quad B after coming under direct attack by hostile creatures identified as “hounds.” Several members of our group were already wounded. Cadet Henderson was bleeding heavily but still mobile.

As we rounded the corridor junction near Jeffries Access Tube 15-C, we encountered Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen (Ship’s Counselor) and Lieutenant (j.g.) Heather De La Rosa, from Medical, carrying two small children.

Cadet Henderson attempted to give a situation report, but before she could finish, she was struck by one of the enemy’s projectile bolts. The bolt passed entirely through her chest. She died instantly and collapsed at my feet.

The remaining four hounds immediately began advancing.

At this point, Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen pulled the two children out of Lieutenant De La Rosa’s arms, grabbed Lieutenant De La Rosa by the arm, and pushed all three into the access tube opening and told her to climb.

He then entered the tube himself and sealed the hatch, leaving myself and the other Cadets in the corridor with the advancing hounds.

No order was issued to us.
No attempt was made to cover our retreat.
No tactical instruction was provided.

The moment the hatch shut, several Cadets panicked. One (Cadet J. Tillman) shouted:

“They left us! They fucking left us!”

The hounds closed to within approximately ten meters before we received flanking fire support from Chief Instructor David Tonelly and additional personnel arriving from the cross-corridor. Their intervention neutralized the hounds and prevented further casualties.

If they had arrived even ten seconds later, myself and at least three others would likely have been killed.

At no point did Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen re-emerge to assist, give orders, or signal intent to return.

III. Assessment (Cadet’s Perspective)

I understand that civilians and children must be protected in emergency situations. However, we were not civilians. We were Cadets under his command presence, armed, and forming a defensive line. Even a single phaser shot or ten seconds of covering fire could have improved our odds.

I believe Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen acted under emotional override rather than logic. While I cannot speak to Vulcan psychology, his behaviour did not match the disciplined conduct expected of a senior Starfleet officer.

IV. Closing Statement

This statement is true to the best of my knowledge and memory.
I submit it for the record without malice toward Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen but with the belief that Cadet lives were unnecessarily endangered.

Signed:
Cadet Elaria M. Carlyle
