Timeline: MD 2 / 1300 hours

Even with everything that had occurred, the normal day-to-day operations still needed to occur, such as normally scheduled medical appointments.

Today was such a day. Though Hendor was young, he already had more knowledge of responsibility than most kids his age. Today, was his scheduled appointment to see Dr Sthilg, or as he called him, his "favorite dragon knight", to check on his implants.

Stepping into the main sickbay waiting area, Hendor smiled at the nurse who saw him first.

" Hello there, young man, what can we do for you?" The nurse asked politely.

Hendor smiled as he replied, "I'm here for my app...appont..." he frowned softly. Then looked up at the nurse. "I'm supposed to see my favorite Dragon Knight, so he can check my implants, Ma'am."

Said dragon knight heard Hendor voice, and after putting away the med's he was sorting, walked over. " Hello there my young Sssquire, how are you this fine day." He said warmly, opening his arms for a hug.

Hearing the familiar deep voice, Hendor's young face lit up. Turning to see Sthilg, he ran over and wrapped his small arms around the CMO's waist, squeezing with all his strength. He then looked up and replied. "Mama and Papa said that the creatures are gone. They're busy helping with repairs, so they said I could come down on my own, so long as I came straight here and asked for you."

Even with the horrors Hendor had been born into, and lived through, back on Greene's World, along with everything else that had happened to the Elysium since, he still seemed to have a bottomless well of innocence and optimism.

Sthilg warmly hugged the child and picked him up. " Your mother and father mussst trussst you to come here all by yourssself. "

Hendor puffed out his tiny chest proudly. "I'm a big brother now! Mama and Paoa say that im their big man!" He smiled warmly as he added, "I help take care of baby Aviana."

" And make sssure you do. It'sss a big responsssibility being a big brother. " the gorn replied warmly as he carried the small child into his office. " Hasss your implant been working sssmoothly?" He enquired.

Hendor nodded, then shrugged. "It was, until yesterday, when we were being attacked. At one point, the ship went dark, as did my eye and ear."

" But they're working now?" the gorn enquired. They'd need to do a full checkup to make sure they were working after an EMP strike.

Hendor nodded slightly. "A little. Not as good as before though. My eye keeps freezing ever now and then, and theres a soft tingling in my ear." He frowned suddenly. My eye just shut off, and my ear did too!" His little bottom lip quivered slightly. "Can you fix them?!" A few tears started to fall from his real eye.

" Off courssse. Dr Sssthilg can fix everyhting. Let'sss put you down on the bio bed. " He said, placing the boy down on the bio bed. " Now let'sss take a look." He added as he sat down at the computer and fired it up.

Hendor did as he was told and laid down on the biobed. Of all of the adults he had met since being on the Elysium, Sthilg was the third one he trusted the most, after his parents, of course.

Once he was comfortable, he smiled up at Sthilg and said, "Ready, Sir."

" Now i need to run a reboot ssscan of your implantsss." Sthilg explained. " They will go offline for a breath sssecond before coming back online. "

Hendor nodded his understanding, thrn closed his eyes, like Sthilg had taught him during his last check up. They had discovered thst when he kept his eyes closed during the procedure, he was less likely to become dizzy and have a bad migraine afterwards.

Sthilg gave a nod to the brave child as he clicked a button, sending the implants to reset. " Now that'sss them coming on line again. We'll run through sssome of the exercisssesss to make sure they are fully functioning."

Hendor nodded his head as the micro cpu in his brain shut off, then rebooted, filling his mind with the rapid binary mental images of the program rebooting.

He heard a few gentle tones and clicks in his ear, signaling that the auditory implant had reactivated first. The clicks ended first, and the gentle tones soon shifted to the background noises of the sickbay.

"I can hear your voice, Sir!" He told Sthilg excitedly. "But my eye is still off."

" I sssee." the gorn said as he looked at the data. " Sssomething was isss making it ssslower. It ssshould be coming online about now." He said as he saw the implant jump into life.

Hendor jumped when the ocular implant activated. At first, there was a dull greyness to the feed that the cpu transmitted to his brain. Then suddenly, the outer lens sparked and Hendor screamed in pain as a blinding white light was shot into his synapses.

Sthilg immediately killed the implant as he rushed to the child's side. " Hendor. It'sss all right, I'm here. " He said, wrapping the crying child in the biggest hug he could manage.

Hendor, still crying heavily called out for his mother while he held onto Sthilg tightly.

" Leilani can you please come to sssickbay as quikly asss posssible." Sthilg said tapping his combadge with his arm.

Leilani was feeling something was off, her connection to Hendor might not have been biological but it was that of a mother who was close to her child. Hearing Sthilg’s call she tapped her comm badge. “I’m on my way!” Quickly picking up Aviana she set out for Sickbay.

Hendor continued to hold tightly to Sthilg, as the pain started to slowly ebb, though the memory of it was still very traumatic to his young brain.

Rushing into Sickbay Leilani handed over her daughter to one of the nurses before rushing to her son’s side. “I’m here sweetheart!” She gave him a big hug looking to Sthilg. “What happened?”

" Hisss implantsss malfucaning and he took a cortex flasssh at full power." Sthilg said calmly as his white eyes looked over the data.

“Ouch!” Leilani looked down at her son, giving him a kiss on the head before offering some tissue to wipe his eyes. “It’s okay little man, Sthilg will have you sorted in no time. I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere.” She looked around checking on Aviana, who was being well looked after by the nurses.

" I'd like to call Vissse to take a look at it." Sthilg said, looking at the data that had come from the implant.

“Do whatever you need to do Sthilg” Leilani nodded as she sat hugging Hendor.

Sthilg nooded and went off to find the ship's trill cyberneticist.

Leilani looked down at her son.“Would you like to hold Aviana? It always cheers you up at home.”

Clinging to his mother, Hendor nodded slowly as he continued to calm down. "Yes, M-mama."

Leilani nodded and smiled as she looked to the nurse who was holding Aviana for her. As she walked over Leilani gently took her daughter before passing her to Hendor. “There you go Hendor, you cuddle all you want.”

Hendor took gentle hold of his baby sister, showing how much of a wonderful big brother that he was. Slowly, his sobs died away, and he even grinned softly when Aviana smiled up at him.

Leilani smiled, relieved that Hendor was smiling once again. “She loves you, you're always going to be the one Aviana looks up to.”


The gorn quickly returned with the white spotted Trill. " Hello, Hendor." She said warmly. " I'll see what's wrong with your implant and get it working again in a moment."

Looking up at both doctors, Hendor nodded, now calm again. He waited until his mother took Aviana back from his arms, then laid back down on the biobed, holding his mother's left hand with his as he waited for the doctors to help him.

" I see what the problem is. " Came the voice of the white spotted trill, after she ran a few quick scans of Hendor's implants. " We have junk code causing system failures. We'll have to wipe the programming and reload its code. "

Hendor nodded, though he didn’t fully understand what was being said.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be right here.” Leilani held onto her son protecting him even though she knew she didn’t really need to worry.

" It won't take long, young sssquire. " Sthilg reasure him as he let his team cyberneticist get to work. The Trill's fingers ran across the control panel, and within minutes, she gave her boss a nod. " Restarting now."

" Okay, Hendor I need you to ssslowly open your eye." Sthilg said to his young patient.

Hendor nodded slightly. He then did as instructed, slowly opening his left eye. "I...i dont see anything," he started to say, then his inhaled a quick breath. "Wait!" He blinked a few times. "Im starting to see something!" He looked over at Leilani and smiled softly. "I can start to see you, Mama., but...you're not in color...in my left eye." He closed his eyes and shook his head. "It makes me head hurt to see things two different ways."

“Don’t worry” Leilani smiled as she reassured her son. “I’m sure Sthilg and Vise will sort that for you.” She looked towards both hoping they could sort it.

Vise was already typing. " Just need to calibrate it. There we go. Try it now" She added with a smile.

Hendor slowly opened his eyes and started to smile almost instantly. "Mama, you look so pretty!" He said with a smile full of the love that a son has for his mother."

Sthilg smiled as he gave Vise a friendly grip on the shoulder. " Well done Vise."

Leilani’s smile said it all as she gave Hendor a cuddle. “Thank you my little man, and thanks to both of you.” She gave Sthilg and Vise a warm smile.

Hendor wrapped his ahoort arms around his mother as she held him, glad the pain had stopped. Turning his head, he looked over at Sthilg and Vise. "Thank you," he said softly.

" Take care of your mother, young squire," Sthilg said softly. " If anything goes wrong, call me and i'll come running. " Vise added with a warm smile.

Hendor nodded and then, after his other put him back down and scooped up his baby sister, the three of them left sickbay and made their way home.
