Interlude
781 words - 1.6 OF Standard Post Measure
Team 3 moved off heading up a sloping corridor, away from the airlock. The structure was made of an alloy they didn't recognise. It was dark but it had a strange element through it.
Marmaduke followed behind. He held a tricorder in one hand, following standard scanning protocol. Every ten meters, he slapped a marker disc to the wall to allow them to easily follow their route back.
Calista moved ahead, then she looked back at her three cadets. "Tell me Gentlemen, what are your eyes seeing? Not the tricorders, your eyes. Talk to me."
Gérard stopped to peer closer to a set of exposed circuits in the bulkhead to his right. "From what I can see here.... it looks like whomever built this station may have been slightly ahead of the Federation, technologically speaking. It looks like they had surpassed even our most advanced neurogel packs." He paused then added, "As for the newer circuits, they look to be a mix of on par and lower than ours."
"Its a hodgepodge" Triston said. "And they have done a lot to make it work."
"And you Marshal? What do you see?" the Officer asked.
"A variety of places for an ambusher to hide or traps to be placed," he replies. "However, neither are indicated by our scans. Which does not mean that we should not be wary."
Calista nodded. "Good. All correct, take a point each. Let us continue. " She waved to a hallway, dim and dark. "How should we proceed?"
"Advance by pairs, with the other two in a covering position," says Marmaduke. "Just because we have not encountered any threats, it does not mean there are not any here."
Gérard nodded in silent agreement with his fellow cadets assessment and reasoning.
"Lead on Gentlemen" Calista said with a smile. "Show me your processes!"
"Montgomery with me," said Marmaduke, readying his phaser. He moved forward slowly, his tricorder set for proximity and energy alerts.
Gérard took the other side of the corridor, and the team started to move forward quickly but efficiently. After nearly twenty minutes of carefully advancement, they found themselves inside a large compartment. Inside, there seemed to be rows and rows of computer memory storage servers. Most of the servers seemed to be offline, though there were a few that showed power running through them.
"We should see what information we can gather, to take back to the ship for further study," Gérard stated to the group, looking to Lieutenant Haelant for confimation.
"Can we establish a data bridge and transmit the files to the Elysium for archiving?" asked Marmaduke.
"We are a bit far for that, however," Calista pulled an PADD from her backpocket. She handed it over. "Its empty."
"I am not an Operations specialist," said Marmaduke. "But surely there should be some recoverable data."
Triston nodded. "Any data would be great. More to look into." He looked under the nearest console. "Hmmm"
"Explain Cadet" Calista asked.
He pulled out cords. "We can use these I think"
As Triston geld up the cables, Gérard found a small container of what looked to be data crystals. There were a dozen of the thumb-sized storage devices. "If we can find a reader for them that we can detach from the system here, I think i can build a connection bridge from our computers to theirs." He closed the container, sliding it into his samples bag. He then continued to look around, seeing what else they could salvage for study.
A few moments later, a call came in over each of the team's commbadges. "Reece to away teams, we have found a Borg drone. It is conscious and seems to be disconnected from the Collective Hive Mind. We have freed it from the prison it was locked in and have collected several pieces of its gear that had been removed by the residents of this station. We are beginning our way back to the runabout. Finish up your investigations and rendezvous back at the ship in ten minutes, Reece out." The communique then ended when Comnander Reece closed the channel on his end.
"We had best work fast," said Marmaduke, searching for anything looking like a reader or media storage.
Calista nodded and kept an eye behind them. Once it was done, she said "Back to the Shuttle people!"
"Yes, ma'am," replied Marmaduke, taking up the rearguard post.
Gérard nodded in agreement, his satchel full of bits and pieces of tech he had found, his tricorder's memory drive nearly full from all he had scanned and observed. "I'm ready!"
Triston took point and led the way back to the shuttle.
