Since they had pulled Teevs' profile while issuing the warrant, the processing stage was easy. Guards held up his unconscious form so the transporter could change him out of his sleepwear, then they half-carried, half-dragged him to an interrogation room. The other prisoner, Addison, was at least a few minutes behind them because of the processing paperwork to do. That was, of course, assuming they wanted to immediately question her or make her wait.
The interrogation room was dull and grey, with the only light source coming from the open door and a couple of dreary light fixtures in the room. One of its concrete walls had slots at varying heights, a pair of cuffs dangling from the last unfortunate occupant of the room. Another wall had a cabinet of various tools, its doors currently closed. An eyelet hook protruded from the ceiling, its opening large enough to allow something like a chain to be fed through it. Against the back wall was a steel table, reserved for the guards to prepare for questioning. In the middle of the room was a chair, its legs secured to the ground by magnetic clamps.
Holding the unconscious prisoner by his restrained arms, the guards stopped when they entered the room. "Where do you want him?" the female Sub-Lieutenant asked their supervisor.
The man sitting at the table glanced over at the arrivals and grunted. "Hang him up," he grumbled as he pointed to the central hook. He then went back to reading through the file in his hands.
The guards nodded before they moved the prisoner further into the room. They dropped Teevs onto the ground, and the female guard, Waeva, kneeled to fix the restraints while the other used the chair to reach the eyelet. A line of durable steel cable was fed through, then a third guard came to help lift Teevs so the one on the chair could secure the restraints. The guard on the chair used a probe-like device to seal the thick cable into one continuous loop. Once the prisoner was in position, the clamps on the chair were released so it could be moved out of reach of the prisoner. Sub-Lieutenant Waeva grabbed a hypospray from her pocket to wake up the prisoner and placed it on the desk beside her supervisor. Two of the guards left, and the Sub-Lieutenant remained behind, taking her place by the door to either assist or stay out of the way.
Once everything was set and the room secure again, Koral, the man who was sitting at the table, placed the data PADD he was reading down and stood, picking up the hypo as he did so. Moving over to the prisoner, he pressed the injector against the man's stretched shoulder and injected him with the meds to wake him up.
A couple seconds later, Teevs awoke with a slight jump. Oh, his head hurt. He blinked to clear his vision to find himself upright. His heels were just off the floor and his arms were pinned above his head. As the disorientation waned, he took in his surroundings and shuddered. Fear tightened his chest. His eyes finally landed on the guard, a hypo in his hand. "W-what's going on?" His voice was hushed, yet the room seemed to amplify it anyways.
Koral landed a solid punch to Teev's midsection, causing him to swing from the hook above his head for a few moments, until the guard grabbed the shorter man, stilling his movements. "You don't not ask questions here prisoner. You will answer my questions, or You will be punished. Do you understand?"
Teevs grunted when the punch landed, and he gasped for air through the pain. He didn't have the leverage on his toes to stop the swing, and grunted quietly when the guard grabbed him to keep him still. He wanted to ask where Addison and Kerilia were, but he didn’t want to get hit again. So he hesitantly nodded to the guard.
"See?" Koral said with a grin that did not meet his eyes. "I knew you would be amicable." He released his hold on Teevs and stepped back. "Now, who else knows about the abomination?"
Abomination? Teevs gave Koral a confused look. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said cautiously.
A sudden back hand struck Teevs' right cheek hard enough that he saw stars. After a couple beats, Koral sighed softly, disappointed. "We are not going to get very far if you refuse to be honest with me." He stepped over to the steel table and started investigating the various tools that were arrayed there. "I'll ask you again, and I beg you not to force me to repeat myself...Who else knows about the abomination?"
Teevs winced as his cheek burned from the slap, though it felt hard enough to leave a bruise later. He watched with confused annoyance as the guard moved to the table. He shuddered to think of what was to come. "I swear, I don't know what you're talking about." Being 0 for 2 with responses the guard liked, he tensed in anticipation. "I don't even know why I've been arrested!"
Koral picked up a short rod, which had two small prongs on the end. Pressing the small button under his thumb, an electrical arc flashed between the prongs.
Without a word, he turned to Teevs and pressed the pronged end against the other man's skin, pressing the button and sending an electrical shock through his body.
Teevs barely had time to recognise the weapon before it was pressed into his skin. His eyes squeezed shut as the shock made his muscles tense. A cry of pain pushed its way through his gritted teeth. He tried to move away, evidenced by the rattle from the cuffs, but there was nowhere to go.
After a few moments of electrocution, Koral turned off the device and set it aside gently as he allowed the prisoner a few beats to try to catch his breath. He then asked the question again. "Who else knows about the abomination that you called your daughter?" The words were filled with disgust, dripping with absolute revulsion that Teevs had breeder with the enemy to create something considered abhorrent to the security officer.
Teevs slumped forward when the device moved away, breathing hard as he recovered. When the guard spoke again, Teevs felt his chest tighten with both fear and protective anger. Where was Kerilia? Why was the guard insulting her? He racked his brain to try and find an answer the guard would accept, but all he could think about was her safety. "What does Kerilia have to do with this? What have you done to my daughter??"
Koral stepped forward and punched Teeves in his back, over his right kidney. It was a strike that was designed to give a tremendous amount of pain, yet stun the prisoner, forcing his mind to focus on the excruciating pain, and less of being confrontational. "I told you before, you don't ask any questions here, prisoner. You answer them. Do you understand?" He punched him in the same spot again, causing another white-hot spike of agony to scream through Teevs' mind.
The sudden hit felt like a hot spear went through his gut. Teevs gasped involuntarily, then groaned as the deep ache settled in. He tried to shield himself, but all his efforts managed to do was make him rotate slightly. "Wait-!" The second hit made him forget to breathe for several seconds, and when air finally made it, painfully, into his lungs, with it came a wave of nausea. His vision blurred. His head dipped forward a little, the best he could do to curl up, but it didn't help.
After several more seconds of silence, Teevs found his voice again. "Please... I-I don't know what's going on." He faintly shook his head to try and get rid of the lightheadedness, but it only made it worse. "Please believe me... the guards, they-they didn't tell us why we were arrested."
Koral backhanded Teevs so hard across his face, that the hanging man swung back and forth like a hanging slab of ceandor meat. He then landed several strong blows to the man's midsection, before backhanding him across the other side of his face.
Teevs didn’t even have time to recover from the previous blow before the next one came. The room became a mix of thuds from Koral's fists and grunts from Teevs. Time blurred. He was seeing stars by the second backhand, and when he coughed he tasted blood. The hits to his kidney made it hard to breathe, as did the hits to his midsection. He groaned before coughing again, choking slightly on the blood tickling his throat.
"The longer you pretend to play dumb, the longer this will last," Waeva commented snarkily. "Just confess and this can be over."
"I... I don't know... what I'm confessing to..." Teevs gasped, chest heaving.
Waeva looked to Koral, then gave an incredulous laugh. "He thinks we wouldn't find out about that Kavai bitch he married."
Koral sneered at the mention of the filth that this Lonian had chosen to bed and mate with. "Makes me sick just to think about it!" He threw another powerful uppercut into Teev's solarplexus, causing his diaphragm to freeze briefly, preventing him from inhaling for a few long, terrifying seconds.
Instead of words, more blood sputtered out of Teevs' mouth. His mouth hung open as he struggled to take a breath, and when his diaphram decided to work again, he sucked in air like it was the last thing he'd ever do. Of course, it made him choke, and he coughed again, the first drops of blood dripping out of his mouth and onto the floor.
As Teevs gasped for air, he tried to understand what the guards had said. The mention of their sister species clarified things only slightly. That Kavai bitch he married played in his head a couple times. Surely, they didn't mean Saphse? "Saphse wasn't... she wasn’t a Kavai, and neither is Kerilia."
That was not the right response.
The beating resumed, not so much to completely render Teevs unconscious, but not so tame, or routine, for him to get comfortable.
It became a pattern. Koral or Waeva would ask something. Demand information about his dead wife, about other possible connections to the Kavai. What his intentions were with the hybrid child. Promised that it could be over if he just admitted the truth. Each time, Teevs would answer, pleading that he didn't know or that their claims weren't true. Each time, they'd beat him, the intensity depending on how relevant his answer was toward a confession. Over. And over. And over.
The interrogation went on for hours. Then, Koral stepped around to look Teevs directly in the face. "Since you continue to refuse to admit your crime, I'll just have to do something to encourage you." He turned to Waeva. "Bring the other one in."
