Processing the new prisoners was quick. After changing them into the grey prison shirts and pants, Teevs was taken ahead toward the interrogation rooms while the woman, Addison, remained behind. They had removed the resonance modulator so Addison could answer basic questions for intake, but the restraints remained in place. The child, Kerilia, was also brought in, and she was taken elsewhere while she squirmed in the guard's grasp. Once they managed to get enough out of Addison, they led her to the next room where a series of cells awaited.
The holding cell was small, just large enough for the prisoner to stand and turn around. The guards pushed her into one, not caring if she hit the wall in the process, then activated the forcefield and left.
That was over three hours ago.
Addison was tired, angry, and upset. She could only hope that the Elysium knew of the arrest as she leaned against the back of the cell to help support herself. She was worried about Teevs and Kerilla. It seemed like an eternity passed before she heard someone approach her cell.
Two guards finally approached the cell, one holding what looked like a taser while the other stopped on the other side of the forcefield. The female guard looked over the prisoner before she turned her attention to the access panel. "I suggest you cooperate," she told Addison.
"Cooperate for what? This kidnapping? I don't even know what this is all about!" she snapped.
Leena, the female guard, rolled her eyes. "Right, every accomplice to treason says that." Entering in her security code, the forcefield between them dropped. "Now move."
"Treaon? I'm not even your species or from your world in case you failed to see that I'm not a Lonian! And go where?" Addison asked.
With an impatient sigh, Leena grabbed the prisoner by the arm and pulled her out of the cell. The other guard moved in to assist, keeping the small weapon ready in his free hand.
Addison tried to snatch her arm away unsuccessfully as the guards moved her down the corridor. "Where are you taking me?"
As the prisoner pulled against them, the male guard pressed the energy weapon firmly into Addison's side. With a button press, it activated, the crackle of electricity half-muted by the clothing it had to pass through. It was held there for about 5 seconds before the guard pulled it away. The two guards wore that protected them from the current, so they were able to keep ahold of Addison.
Addison's body convulsed from the shock as she let out a scream. "You bastard," she cursed, breathing heavily as pain throbbed at the site of the electric discharge by the weapon.
Without answering her question or addressing the insult, the guards continued with her down the corridor.
Waeva was admittedly surprised. Koral was thorough in his work and even had Lady Sama's compliments on his methods, yet the prisoner still didn't give up the confession. An order to her maybe a half hour ago had her send a message to reception, asking them to bring the other one they had grabbed during the raid. In anticipation of the newcomer, she repositioned the chair while Koral was working his magic so it would be in Teevs' field of view and activated the magnetic bolts to anchor it to the floor.
She turned when the wall panel alerted them to company, and she opened the door to let the new prisoner in. She directed the two guards toward the chair. "There." The door shut behind them as the two guards pushed Addison toward the chair.
Addison struggled and they drug her towards the chair. She screamed again as the guard again electrocuted her, pushing her roughly down into the chair.
The two guards wrestled her arms behind the back of the chair and secured her legs, and once they were certain she wasn't going anywhere, they silently made their leave.
After hours of near-continuous torture, Teevs was grateful for the respite. He coughed, some blood trickling out of his mouth and onto the floor. An eye was swollen and bruised. Sweat coated his skin and stained his shirt. His wrists hurt from being suspended from the ceiling for so long, but he didn’t have any meaningful strength to hold himself up. The scream made him flinch. That voice... it couldn't be. It took several seconds before he even managed to lift his head to see what the guards were doing, and his eyes widened. "Addison..." he whispered, his voice hoarse. While he was relieved that she was alright, the guards wouldn't bring her in here for no reason. To Koral, he pleaded, "please... let her go..."
Koral stepped over to the secured female. Looking her over with a sadistic grin on his face, he reached down and grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him. "Well now...I didn't know that aliens could be so pretty." As he held her chin. His eyes moved over the exposed portions of her skin in a lewd manner. "Very pretty indeed."
"Keep your hands off of me," Addison seethed as felt the man's eyes rove over her. The thought made her sick.
An evil grin slowly crossed Koral's face. "So much fire!" He released her chin and reached up, grabbing a fistful of her hair and jerked her head back as he stared down into her wide eyes. "I like my women to have fire...makes breaking them do much more satisfying." He then backhanded her across the face with his other hand as he held her hair firm. "That was a just a gentle reminder. In here, you do not demand anything. In here, you live or die by my will. It will serve you well to accept that fact."
Teevs' felt his heart skip a beat when he watched Koral hit Addison. He shifted; even though he knew his own restraints were nowhere near breaking, he wanted nothing more than to keep Addison safe. "Let her go," he repeated, hoping to draw the attention away from his partner. "She has nothing to do with this!"
Koral snapped his head around when Teevs barked at him. A sadistic grin crossed the guards face. He let go of Addison's hair and stepped behind her, while keeping his eyes locked of Teevs. "Did you just demand something, prisoner?" He grabbed a fistful of her hair with his left hand, jerking her head back a bit, then grabbed the front of her throat with his right hand, holding it tight like a steel vise, and started to squeeze, slowly cutting off her air supply. "She was found with you! She is involved! Confess your crime! Or watch as I kill her slowly, painfully." There was a look of perverse pleasure in the man's eyes, as if he was truly enjoying what he was doing.
Addison gasped for air as the guard squeezed, her chest heaving as she fought for air.. She tried to struggle but it was useless with the restraints.
"No... please..." Teevs' eyes widened as he watched Koral's hand tighten. He pulled against the restraints, ignoring his injuries as they protested. While he knew that a right to life was guaranteed to prisoners, the instinctual urge to try and protect Addison vastly overshadowed any rational thought. All he could see was Addison struggling to breathe, the sick grin on Koral's face... "She’s innocent..."
Koral growled at Teevs' reluctance to speak. After a couple beats more, he finally released his hold on the woman's throat, allowing her to gasp in deep gulps of air. "Fine," he snarled at Teevs, danger flashing behind his eyes. "If the threat of a quick death for her isn't enough..."
Addison sucked in deep breath of precious air as she was able to breathe again.
Koral moved back to the table of tools and grabbed a pair of pliers. Stepping back over to where Addison was still recovering her breath, he grabbed one of her secured hands, and started to use the pliers to rip her fingernails off, one by one.
Adison screamed as pain erupted from her fingers, feeling warm blood soaking the tips, fighting back tears that escaped down her cheeks anyway as the third fingernail was removed.
"STOP! I'LL CONFESS!" Teevs screamed at him. His vision blurred, and he choked out a sob as his head dipped forward. His shoulders trembled from fear. "I'll-I'll give you the confession, just... please, don't hurt her... I... I can’t..."
Waeva let out a sigh. "Fucking finally..."
Koral spat on the floor and moved away from Addison, whose right hand now had four bleeding fingertips. He moved aside, and allowed Waeva to do her part.
With the precision only brought about by years of practice, Waeva set up the recording device and focused it on the prisoner. Audio was sufficient, but she knew Koral liked his trophies. "Teevs Dosivi, do you admit to marrying a Kavai?"
A couple seconds passed where the only weight in the room came from Teevs' shuddering sobs. He couldn’t look at Addison. She was hurt because of him. He didn't know where his daughter was. He hated that this was the only way to keep both of them safe right now. "Y-yes..."
The female guard nodded. "Are you aware that such an act is treason against the Sovereignty?"
Teevs clamped his eyes shut, as if it would protect him from this. "Yes..."
"And did you make the choice to have a child with that Kavai?"
"I..." The words caught in Teevs' throat, and he gasped in a shaking breath. "I did..."
Waeva was practically glowing with anticipation. "Teevs Dosivi, how do you plead to the crime of treason?"
A fearful sob came from Teevs. He didn't know about any of this. He didn't want to believe it when they showed him Saphse's forged work records and family history. He didn't believe it when they showed him footage of Kerilia in a cell, restrained and gagged, the dermaglyph on her forehead.
When no answer came, Waeva looked to Koral. "My colleague may have patience, but I do not. Do the other hand."
Koral grunted, switching the pliers for a nasty-looking hammer. He grabbed Addison's other wrist and he brought the rounded edge of the hammer down on the exposed hand, the sound of several breaking bones was barely heard overthe screams of agony that came from Addison.
Teevs' head shot up, his eyes wide with fear. His eyes fell on Addison's bloodied hand, the same hand he held when she met his family. The sight of it now made him nauseous. "No, please!! I plead guilty!" He said, before Koral could swing the hammer again.
Waeva knew Koral would be disappointed, but she held up a hand to pause his actions anyways. "And to the illegal possession of that disgusting hybrid?"
Seeing Koral not back off, Teevs swallowed. He was afraid to even think of what would happen if he hesitated again. "G... guilty..." His voice shook, and tears slid down his face. His head dropped again. "I plead guilty... no more... please..."
Waeva looked at the recording device to confirm it was collected before stopping and saving it. "We got it," she told Koral. "Three and a half hours. Must be a personal best."
Koral final grinned, though it was not a pleasant smile, there was an evil pettiness to his expression, as if he actually found enjoyment causing others pain. "I suppose now we have to get the medics in here to repair the damage," he said begrudgingly as he tossed the bloddt hammer over onto the table of tools.
"I'm hungry," he said as he turned towards the door, already forgetting about the two beaten an abused prisoners behind him as he looked over at Waeva. "I do believe it's your turn to buy the ale."
"Shit, you're right," Waeva replied with a mock frown. "What is this, the eighth bet you've won?" Before they left, Waeva paused at the door's panel to summon guards to handle the prisoners and to take their place. Their shifts were basically over anyways.
"Ninth," he replied with a chuckle. "You forgot about that con artist from last month."
The door shut behind them, leaving Addison and Teevs in a room that suffocated under its own weight. Teevs' cheeks were wet from tears. "I'm sorry..." he whispered, his voice giving away how close to breaking down he was. "Addison, pheya... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I-I..." A sob hiccuped out of his throat.
Her fingers throbbed with intense pain as her hand shook from the recent assault. "Why..." was all she was able to croak out through clenched teeth, keeping her head hung low and her eyes clinched shut to try deal with the lingering pain.
Teevs hated to see her in pain. He hated that he could hear it in her voice, and he'd give anything if it meant helping her. "They... they believe that... that Kerilia's mother was a Kavai," he tried to explain, though it didn't make him feel any better about the situation. "There's conflict between our species. Relations with them are... are forbidden by law." Some of his tears dropped onto the ground. "Please, forgive me, Addison, I-I didn't know. I swear, I didn't know. If I... if I did, I wouldn't have brought you here..."
"I know," she said, through deep breaths. She knew Teevs would never endanger her or Kerilla.
Shortly after, some different guards entered the room. Two of them went to Teevs while the third went to the datapad that Koral had left behind. One of the two guards had a sort of laser cutter in hand, and she reached up to cut the thick cable.
The second the cable released, Teevs collapsed onto the floor. He groaned as it agitated his injuries, but soon enough the guards took his arms in a firm grasp and secured his hands behind him, then hoisted him up. It took a few seconds for him to realise he was being taken out of the room, and he looked over his shoulder to see Addison being left behind. His eyes simply conveyed dread. He knew what awaited her, and he couldn't stop it. "No... no!" He tried to pull against the guards, but he had no energy left. The guards still felt him resist, though, and he cried out when they tased him.
They continued to drag him away, and the last thing Teevs saw was the new guard approaching Addison before the door slid shut. He didn't even know if she heard him scream her name.
