Location: Sickbay
Timeline: after returning from shuttle mission
1134 words - 2.3 OF Standard Post Measure
Doesna this just bloody figure... Gallia thought as she rushed through the corridors en route to sickbay, keeping a cold cloth on Tayalas' head, Just in from flyin' about the entire galaxy and dinnae ya just know it, I come home to a sick child. She pushed through the sickbay doors, speaking in a soothing voice, "It's okay, Tay, mama's got you. We're gonna see Dr. Bossk... Sthilg and he's gonna take care of you." Gallia corrected herself when she realized she'd called the CMO by her Uncle's name.
Tayalas, tears on her tiny cheeks, muttered, "Sana." This time it seemed to mean 'I feel bad.'
"Doctor Sthilg." Gallia called out, "Are ya here, sir?"
The gorn heard his name placing the animal cage back on the shelf before heading to the reception. Noting the human and her adopted andorian offspring and immediately sprang into action. " Right thisss way. " He said as he headed towards one of the biobeds. " How long have they been feeling like thisss?" He asked as he switched on his scanner.
'I dinnae know, Doctor." Gallia answered quickly, "I fed her some dinner and she immediately threw it back up. Her head feels hot, that's really bad for an Andorian.... I'm sorry, you already know all this." She set Tayalas down on the diagnostic bed for the Doctor to examine, figuring the best thing she could do was shut up and let him do what he did best.
" Every little piece of information helpsss. " the gorn said as he began running the scanners as he turned to his nurse. A green-eyed vulcan. " Two cold gell packs and replicate some andorian G- blood. " the nurse nodded and hurried off. " Don't worry the blood just in cassse. " he said with a ressuring look.
The doctor's white eyes focused on the screen. " Now thisss is very odd. Her mother was adopted into your family correct?" he said as he began typing something into the console.
"Aye, me mum and dad didnae think they could have their own kids, adopted Charles and Dolana as babies, then they had me." Gallia informed, she didn't know why this was important but she would answer any question the doctor had if it would help Tay, even if he asked the color of her panties, "Can I ask why that's important, sir?"
" Well, the little one has a little virusss called Pritisss Leritisss. The thing is there hasn't been any casssesss in andoriansss for over twenty five years. The lassst cure was sssuppose to be passed on through the parentsss. It's rather odd ssshe caught it in the firssst place. " The gorn said as he the small replicator replicated a small vile for a hypospray.
" Now be brave little one. Just need to give you thisss and it will help you feel better. " The doctor said as he loaded up the hypospray.
Tayalas looked up at the large lizard man and felt thoroughly safe, forcing a weak smile on her face and saying, "Sana."
" And there we go. " The gorn said as he pressed the hypospray against the young andorians neck. It was only a second before the anti virus was in the young girl's system. " Okay, now we have to just watch her temperature and sssee that it goes down. " The doctor said to Norris as the nurse returned with the gell packs. The gorn peeled one and placed it on the girls forehead. " How are you feeling?" he asked her calmly.
Tayalas smiled and cooed, the cold thing on her head making her feel a lot better already, indicating to the doctor that she was going to be okay. She reached out for the lizard man's finger, feeling it with her hand and giggling; she wasn't sure what was up with that, but it was cool.
"Seems she's okay, Doctor. Thank you." Gallia said, adding, "I on the other hand feel like I'm about to fall apart. That was bloody terrifying."
" You handled yourself perfectly by bringing her here. " The gorn said placing a reassuring hand in her shoulder. " Can i have a lissst of any foodsss or animalsss from andor ssshe been in contact with? " He said Profesional.
"No animals I know of, but I cannae be sure when she's in nursery." Gallia said, going over the question in her head, "Befar we left DS9, a friend a' me mum's, Shelas, she gave me some Andorian red bats for her. She liked 'em so much I got a dozen from that big eared bugger... Quark ta bring home for 'er. Ya dinnae think that's what made ma l'il angel sick, do ya?"
" It's possible they carriersss. I'll have to have them checked and cleared." The gorn said typing something into his computer.
"Then I'll bring ya every one of 'em, Doctor." Gallia pledged, she wanted to know what had made her baby sick and, if need be, pound Quark into the deck like a self sealing stem bolt.
" Thank you. I'd like to keep her in here for a few hoursss to make sssure it'sss gone from her sssyssstem. Would you like a coffee." The gorn said reaching for his flask at his belt.
"Aye." Gallia nodded, taking a seat and trying to relax as best she could.
With the skill that could only come from someone who'd been doing it for years the elderly lizard had his flask from his belt and two fresh coffees in the small cups that came with it. " Sugar?" He asked.
"Yes, thank you." Gallia replied, not noticing the the doctor was trying to distract her and doing a great job of it.
The doctor produced two sugar cubes from another packet on his belt and plopped them into one of the mugs that he handed to the junior grade lieutenant. " Don't worry everything going to be fine."
"I knew it would be." Gallia nodded, though she was still obviously distraught about the whole thing, "Just glad ya where here." She sipped her coffee, it was just as strong as Estelle had said, jokingly asking, "So what's the best way ta injure a sleazy l'il Ferengi?"
" Hit him wear it hurtsss." The gorn said with a grin. " Hisss bank account."
"Aside from those huge lobes a theirs, I cannae think of another place ta hit 'em." Gallia laughed, sipping her coffee slowly, the octane rating on this stuff was through the roof.
" Well if you need help with it jussst let me know. I have a few favoursss i've picked up over the years." the gorn said before taking another sip.
"Thank ya, doc!" Gallia smiled, raising her cup to the Gorn, he was one hell of a pediatrician.
The elderly lizard grinned as he raised his own cup. He certainly was.
