Mission: Mission 3: Masquerade
Location: Deck 37 - Holodeck 9 - Program Activated
Timeline: MD2 10h00
1364 words - 2.7 OF Standard Post Measure

As six people were beamed into Holodeck 9, the program activated and they found themselves in a city street, the heat was oppressive and the smells coming from the alien populace made their noses burn. They were standing in the middle of the capital city of the Klingon Empire and there was obviously no way out.

Arrianna suddenly found herself in the middle of the first city with little explanation. She was wearing a silk evening robe. "Avalon, why am I here?' No response. The Alindari sipped her tea and began to contemplate her situation.

Triston looked around and sighed. "Well this is fun." He had been studying in his cabin. He straightened up.

"Putting it mildly." Arrianna noted. "Clearly the Elysium is nowhere near Qo'nos. Yet here we are. I wonder if this is someone's idea of a joke." The Alindari noted. "Computer; End program." No response. "Computer; Disengage holodeck." Still no response. "And the Computer is not responding to my commands."

As Turak was taking inventory of the phase pistols and rifles, he felt himself being beamed to.... ~Well, I have no idea. I wasn't planning any trips in the near future.~ When he materialized he found himself in the middle of what appeared to be the Qo'nos capital city. ~Damn. Note to self, always keep a phase pistol on me at all times!~ He then said aloud to nobody in particular, "I would imagine that we aren't really where we appear to be - this has to be the holodeck." He looked at the others and then said, "Computer, end program." Nothing. ~Damn, why can't we go just one week without something like this happening!~ "Any other ideas?"

"Ublyodok..." Milla cursed in Russian, she had not been expecting to end up in her panties and Anje's t-shirt on the streets of Q'onos when she got out of the shower, that was certain.

Arri examined Milla. "I assume correctly that no one was expecting to be abducted into a holodeck recreation of the Klingon Homeworld?" She mentioned. "Two situations present themselves. Either this is intentional, or accidental."

"Probably one of Gallia's simulations going fubar on her again, Sir." Milla suggested, remembering her sister's many tales of Gallia's ineptitude at bug testing them, "So we could either be attacked by Tiger tanks or dancing with Michael Jackson any second now..."

"We need to deal with the here-and-now Cadet. Someone is going to great lengths to keep us in this Holodeck for an unknown, possibly malicious, reason. If they can lock us out of Avalon, neutralize our command codes, then a person who could do that is capable of anything. Even disengaging the holo-saftey program." Arri mentioned. "Regardless, if we can find the holodeck maintenance access, we can disengage power to the holodeck and manually terminate this program."

"Commander, it is also logical to think that said person would seal off the maintenance accesses as well. I think we might have to interact with some of the holograms to see if we are in some sort of game - there may be an end-goal? However, I suspect that sooner or later someone will miss one of us and find that we are in the holodeck, and possibly even override the system," Turak said as he was looking around and taking in his surroundings. He was looking for a potential first hologram to speak with about their situation.

Triston was a cadet he had no way of assisting really. "Why would someone beam us into a holodeck program of the Klingon homeworld?"

"We may be seeing the end result of ego." Arrianna noted. "The mind who contemplated this wants prove a point. The override panel is almost certainly boobytrapped. We need to finish the conditions of this simulation." Arrianna noted. "But another possibility presents itself; Holodeck programs are not open worlds, but rather simulations with constraints designed to preserve the computer's memory but still guarantee the immersion we experience in a holoprogram. A computer has finite amount of memory and processor capability. We simply need to apply some Computer Science. We need the program to spawn more Klingons, a whole army in fact."

Turak responds, "This might be a crazy idea, but I say if we really want to make them show up in numbers, that we go to their capital building and tell them that the Federation is going to kill them all with a poison in their water - you know, a dishonorable way of fighting - and that they were already dead. Then we'll steal their cloaking technology. After that we can just laugh at them!"

Ken Waters stepped forward. He had been quiet until then, uncertain if this was some sort of prank -- Prophets knew he was due to be on the receiving end of one lately. "Until we hear otherwise, we need to assume that the safeties are off. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm good to take on maybe half of a Klingon tops."

Arrianna pondered the situation. "That may be are only option. The longer we're in this potential death trap, the more danger we'll be in. Mr. Turak, if you told me this morning we were going to make war with the Klingon Empire, to save our lives, I would think you had gone mad. But I see no other option but war against the Klingons in order to save our lives." She shook her head.

"Umm, I'm sorry, I couldn't have heard that right." Milla interjected, "I must have something crazy stuck in my ear. Didn't we just realize that whoever did this could have overrode our safeties? And now, with that knowledge in hand, our plan is to make the program make more Klingons and then piss them off?"

"Indeed, Cadet. Bear in mind, we're already in a death trap. If I wanted to kill us using a holoprogram, I'd program the Klingons around us to be twice as aggressive. This entire holoprogram is an exaggerated version of Kronos, down to the insufferable heat."

"Yes, Ma'am, I would suggest that we head to that building down the street," as Turak point towards the large government building, "I believe that to be the Capitol of Kronos."

Ken started off in the indicated direction. After a few steps he turned. "Well? Are we starting this war or not?"

"This will definitely be something for the personal log," Turak said with a smile as he started walking to the Capitol building.

Arrianna approached behind a Klingon guard, suddenly with one fluid movement, she drew a disruptor from behind him and shot him in the back. "Be sure to secure a weapon. Crashing this program will require a lot of unpredictability on our part."

Turak followed suite and did the same thing to the Klingon guard standing next to the first, "Now we enter the building.....quickly!"

Triston was silent as he moved to the door. He, had, had plans for the evening. "Lets get this done so we can get out of here."

Ken reached down and scooped up a weapon of his own. He eyed it for a moment. "We are absolutely certain this is a simulation. Right?"

Around them auddenly the holodeck shimmered and faded, revealing its standard black and gold grid. And then over the Comm came:
"Attention all hands. We are under attack. We have Jem Hadar on decks 23, 34, 16, 19 and 4. All civilians are to remain in the shelters. All crew prepare to repel boarders. Lethal force has been authorized. All turbolifts are down."

Miran watched as the mek'leth she'd just procured returned to the nothingness from which it sprang, leaving her with no other choice but to remove the chain from her neck and wrap it around her fist, ~If nothing else whoever kills me can get their nose broken...~

Arrianna raised her eyebrow. "This might explain a few things, Get to your stations, now!"

Ken let out a breath he had been holding all the while. "I wished that I didn't have to deal with the fake Klingons and now I've got real Jem'Hadar instead." He shook his head even as he set off for his station.
