Mission: Mission 3: Masquerade
Location: Deck 19 - Main Brig Area - locked in different Cells.
Timeline: MD2 10h00
2176 words - 4.4 OF Standard Post Measure

The Transporter activated and six beams of light shimmered and in different cells, six officers appeared.
The brig cells activated and all six were trapped.

One moment Savar was in his office going over crew files the next he found himself in the brig, more precisely in a cell with the forcefield turned on. Tapping his commbadge, he called "Savar to Security." No answer, He tried again and got the same result. He tried again, "Savar to Avalon. Please respond." Again no answer. He looked around, it seemed he was locked in, Why he did not know but he knew he had to find a way out. So he began to explore the small cell and look for possible escape avenues.

Anje had just come in with food and drinks, going to have dinner with Milla before asking her for a huge favor; now for some reason she was in the brig of all places, "Hey, what the hell? Diplomatic immunity!" She protested, turning to the others, "Any clue what's going on here?"

"Nothing over here, Commander." Sami answered, she was in her gray St. Pete High tank top and tight shorts, she'd been on the way to the gym when... whatever this was happened.

Savar had been exploring his cell, searching for a weakness when he heard other voices. One close by as in the cell next to his. It sounded like Commander Brett. "Commander Brett?" He called out, "This is Savar, I am in the cell next to yours. Who else is here with us?"

"I heard Crewman Justice a second ago, but that's it so far." Anje answered, "You seen or heard anyone else, Savar? What about you, Sami?"

"Just you two, Commander." Sami replied, "Though I want to note for the record this is some serious bullshit, Sir."

"Crewman Justice is correct Commander, She and you are the only others I have heard." Savar replied with the usual Vulcan stoicism. "I am unable to ascertain the purpose of our incarceration." He added.

Waking up in her cell, Kaylee sprang to her feet, “what the hell guys? I heard of practical jokes, but this is a little much” she said, trying to walk quickly out of the cell before running into the forcefield and falling flat on her back “alright, that’s a new one” she said picking herself up. She was wearing a Starfleet Academy t-shirt that was three sizes too big for her, which said that it wasn’t hers originally but otherwise was in her underwear, “hello? This isn’t funny guys!”

From an adjoining cell River moaned. "Feyth finally agreed to let me visit the kid, and now this happens. She'll never believe it."

Tate had also been in her office when she had been unexpectedly transported to the brig. So quick we had this happened, she barely had time to register it had happened at all. One moment she was in her office and the next moment she was in a cell. Hearing familiar voices immediately, Sullivan stifled The urge to curse, no matter how disconcerted she was. She was with her crew and that required a cool head and professionalism. As soon as she got her bearings, she offered, " anyone hurt?" She wasn't entirely sure what she could do if anyone was injured, but it was her natural healers instinct to ask anyway.

Miran had been walking through the halls towards the Flight Control offices when she noticed officers vanishing from the halls. She checked where she was and headed for the security offices, knowing the Bridge would be locked down. When she entered the security offices, she found them empty, but voices from the Brig section had her walking into there and freezing at the sight. "Ah..." she muttered.

Savar heard then saw Miran as she entered the brig. "Miran, Miss Lalor. we require your assistance. We.' He gestured at the other cells, "have been locked in here against our will. We need to find out who did this and why as well as reach the bridge."

"Miran, honey, it's Anje." She tried to wave, "Yeah, we could definitely use a little help here. Maybe if you could just go over to the control panel there, there should be a mass release switch and we can get out of here."

Miran surveyed the group carefully, noting people she knew, and noting those she had not yet met but she walked towards the control Panel. "I am not going to get in trouble for this am I? Phoenix isn't gonna kill me?" she asked.

"I assure you Miran, the Captain is not going to kill you, rather she will be pleased by your initiative." Savar replied from his cell.

River stepped to the opening of his cell. "Miran, can you reach anyone on the comm? Is the bridge under our control?"

Miran found the controls, pressed the button but nothing happened. She frowned. "Its not working..." she considered the panel and then pulled out her small boot dagger. "Holmes is gonna kill me" she muttered and jammed the dagger into the console and jumped back as the console sparked and the force fields shorted out.

Turning she faced the now free group. "No contact from the bridge." she said calmly.

Walking out of the cell, Kaylee moved over to now damaged console, “Well, it’s not the worst damage I’ve seen” she said, carefully removing the boot knife and holding it out for Miran, “once everything is sorted out, I’ll make sure Engineering repairs this. Now, could you go stab the door controls as well?”

"The doors arent locked." Miran said and handed the knife back with a smile. "Turbolifts are another matter though"

"No problem." Sami shrugged, lifts were easy, "Fray, we can get them running again."

"I think we must conclude the bridge is compromised." Savar replied as he stepped out of his cell. "We also need to find out about the other areas of the ship." He looked at the others, "We should arm ourselves against any intruders we may encounter."

"Commander Brett would probably be the one who could do that."Sami suggested, "She should have an override to the weapons locker."

Savar turned to look at Anje, "Commander Brett, will you override the weapons locker to allow us to arm ourselves?"

"I'll do it right now." Anje nodded, "Fray, you and Justice do your engineering magic and get us out of here. Savar, you, Waters, and Sullivan come with me to collect weapons for everybody. Miran, stay close to me, please." Anje knew she could've technically made that last part an order, she also knew it would've gone over like a starship with a screen door with Miran, but she felt compelled to keep the young woman she'd fought so hard to keep here safe.

"As you wish Commander." Savar replied emotionlessly. "Please lead the way." As he moved to stand beside her.

Glad to be free with a task immediately in front of her, Sullivan simply nodded. She found herself thinking of all the work she had done this far to help the recent captives of the Romulans to process and heal from their experiences. Unfortunately, that meant the details were fresh in her mind and not at all useful when confronted by the possibility of combat and capture by an enemy. She knew she should probably offer something comforting in the moment, but not entirely sure she could convince her self of what she would offer, she decided the best strategy was to say nothing for now.

Anje made her way to the weapons locker quickly, not wanting to drag ass for even a second on getting out of here, "Computer override weapons locker, authorization Brett-Zulu-Mike-0-1-0-7."

The locker popped and River wasted no time in retrieving a set of phaser rifles from within. His face grew dark as he checked the charge on the first two he held. "Dead," he sighed. He looked to the ceiling above them. "It's possible that automated systems triggered deactivation. If that's true, whoever has control of this ship REALLY has it."

Savar glanced at River, "Mr. Waters are all the weapons dead? If so is there no way to recharge the them?"

Waters shook his head. "Honestly, I don't even know for a fact why they're empty. Even if it is the Elysium herself that powered them down, I'm sure we can recharge these things and rig them to keep their charge. But I'm afraid I'm not much of an engineer."

"If there is a chance we can recharge the weapons we must take it." Savar replied. "Is it customary for a phaser to lose a charge so quickly?"

"That's why I suspect they've been purposefully deactivated."

"My thoughts as well and if that is true as I think it is then we must proceed along the line that the bridge has been compromised and the Captain may well be in danger. We must reactivate the weapons at least some of them." Savar remarked.

Miran shifted silently. So much for her plans that evening.

Kaylee made her way over to the turbolift with Sami, “well, where should we start Sami?” She said, almost absentmindedly, “Manuel override?”

"Seems like the best idea." Sami nodded, "We'll start with the easiest part, work from there."

Miran took a breath. "River? Do you remember, when we came back from Andromeda and ALICE was made to remain behind?" She looked at Anje

"ALICE was the ships AI. She was replaced by Avalon, the basic AI. Phoenix purged the ships AI data base so ALICE was not able to be active.. She was a creepy thing... but she was smart. Self aware, Phoenix said, killed the former XO apparently... Could this be a remnant working against us?" she suggested.

River hardly suppressed a shiver at the memory. "ALICE was...brutal. Unstoppable. If that's what's happening here...we could be in A LOT of trouble."

At that moment, Sami slammed the proverbial brakes, "The hell are we doing this the jackassy way?" She asked aloud, "Miran, how did you get in here?"

"I walked." The teen replied. "I was already on this deck." She pulled a necklace out. "Personal transport inhibitor. "

"Sweet." Sami nodded, "All things considered don't be surprised if our necks match next time we see each other."

Suddenly over the Comm came: "Attention all hands. We are under attack. We have Jem Hadar on decks 23, 34, 16, 19 and 4. All civilians are to remain in the shelters. All crew prepare to repel boarders. Lethal force has been authorized. All turbolifts are down."

Savar listened to the announcement, "Most odd. I heard no explosions, nor any transporters being used. I believe this announcement to be false."

Miran looked at him. "Thats my sisters voice. And are you really going to risk it? We are on deck 19..."

Savar looked at her, "I agree. It is the Captain's voice and in answer to your question no I am not. We must prepare as if there is an attack going on. Did you see anyone Miran on your way here?"

Miran shook her head. "no just people being beamed away"

"We already know the phasers don't work, we're going to need to find projectile weapons somewhere. Marine deck is our best shot." Anje stated, a little distressed by having to go back to ballistics so soon after Cortic, "Fray, you know the tubes better than anyone, can you get there from here?"

Savar listened to the ambassador. "An excellent idea Ambassador. Would any projectile weapons be stored in the weapons armory " He inquired.

Tate listened quietly to the various theories concerning their predicament. She agreed they needed to prepare themselves for combat of some sort because even in the absence of more specific information, it was clear they were facing some danger. Still, she wasn't convinced the threat was as easily identified as the supposed ship wide announcement had suggested. Would such an enemy truly bother to incarcerate just some of them here, only to make it relatively easy for them to escape initial captivity? There was also no indication that the ship was engaged in any sort of battle prior to the announcement, supposedly from the Captain. Furthermore, of all the people aboard the ship, Sullivan didn't consider herself one of the most threatening, so why with potential boarders incarcerate her? "I agree we should attempt to arm ourselves, but it also goes without saying we should prepare to engage in hand to hand combat if we need to. Something isn't right about this whole situation, and I think we should be cautiously skeptical about the announcement we just heard, given the absence of anything to support it."

Savar nodded his head in Tate's direction. "The counselor speaks logically and correctly. While I do not doubt that was the Captain's voice we however don't know if was prerecorded and we should proceed with caution until we know something definite one way or another."
