Mission: Casperia Prime - A lesson in relaxation
Location: Counselling offices
Timeline: MD2 0900 hrs
1398 words - 2.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Alicia made her way to the Counselling offices, she was understandably nervous about meeting the Counselling team especially after two years away from her Counselling role. She was surprised that she’d been chosen for the Chief spot given there was a more senior officer on the Counselling department roster. She’d already requested that all members of the department be there, with the exception of anyone who had prior commitments with patients.

In his office Savar looked at his PaDD and the message it contained informing him of what was the human term? A meet and greet with the new chief. He desired that this one had a longer tour of duty and lasted longer then the previous chiefs. As he prepared for the meeting he took the time to pull up the bio on Alicia Kelea. His eyes swiftly read and absorbed the information on the computer screen. It was an impressive resume. he did note one oddity. The Lieutenant prior to her being assigned here had been on personal leave for the past two years. Such a period of time away from duty usually indicated a significant occurrence had taken place, usually in the form of a tragedy. he would make no assumptions. He would simply watch and observe the new chief in how she handled herself and her duties.

Maddy had tried so hard to be on time, but first her hair wouldn't cooperate, then she couldn't find her PADD, then she got halfway here and realized she was still wearing her cadet uniform instead of her new officer's uniform, so now she walked in slightly behind schedule and worried that her new chief might not be happy about it. She hoped against hope her new chief wasn't like Gunny, he'd skin her for being late, but took comfort in the knowledge that people with his personality seldom became counselors.

Tate made her way to the briefing room as requested feeling a mix of curiosity and some apprehension. On the one hand, she was glad to just be able to focus on counseling again. Although she had served in the senior spot for quite some time, she needed a break from the administrative tasks involved. She would still make herself available for leadership roles if asked, but so far, since her tenure, no one had stayed long enough to get that far. That was the source of her apprehension coupled with her own reading of their new chief's history. She would never begrudge a fellow therapist needing time to deal with other matters, but it did concern her in light of the revolving door of leaders of late. Truthfully, it only exacerbated Sullivan's own guilt over choosing to step down herself.

~ Chief Counsellor's Office ~

Arriving at the Counselling offices Alicia walked inside smiling as she greeted those gathered. "Thank you all for coming, I'm Alicia Kelea and as you probably know know by now I'm the new head of your department. I've had a chance to look over the department reports as supplied by Starfleet, I'm impressed with how hard you've all been working and I'm not going to walk in and start ordering you around. As far as I'm concerned you know your jobs, and you know this crew a lot better than I do, so I don't intend on changing anything." She rested against the edge of her desk. "Before I go any further, are there any questions?"

Savar sat motionless and listened impassively as Alicia introduced herself to the group. So far she hadn't said anything to take issue with but he reminded himself she was just getting started. When she asked were there any questions he spoke up. " What is your plan concerning the division and assignment of cases?"

Lunara didn't have any questions of her own (at least, none that weren't snarky, like 'how long are you going to stay here'), so she just sat back and waited expectantly for the answer.

Alicia was glad someone had a question, she hated uncomfortable silences. “As far as I’m concerned, those of you who have long term patients will continue to see those same patients. Any new appointment requests will be given either to whoever is free or if it’s a speciality that’s required, then obviously to the person with those skills. I don’t plan on uprooting crew who are used to seeing a certain person. If requests are made to speak to a particular one of us, then I will arrange for that to be organised by whichever one of you has been requested. No one will given more of a workload than anyone else. Would you all agree that’s fair?”

New boss is a woman, no shock there. Maddy thought, as feminist as she was she worried that counseling was suffering from a dearth of diversity, Most men probably think it's a chick job or something. Neanderthals. Wow, she's pretty... Oh, what the hell, Maddy? Did you just reduce your new chief to being 'pretty'? So disrespectful, need some time to clean my aura. When she finally managed to stop arguing with herself she asked, "Can we volunteer for special details, Lieutenant? I feel like I would do best with children and, oddly enough, Marines."

“I don’t have a problem with that...Madelaine isn’t it?” Alicia looked at the PADD in her hand before addressing everyone for the moment. “I’m not one for standing on ceremony, so when we’re together for meetings or private talks please feel free to call me Alicia.” She turned her attention back to Maddy. “All I will ask is that, should you be running late for meetings in the future that you please let me know.” She smiled warmly. “If you wish to specialise with children and deal with the marines then that’s fine.” She made more notes on her PADD. “Any problems make sure you see either myself or Commander...” She paused uncertain where to pick up Savar’s last name. “Or Savar.” She grinned as she looked towards Savar.

"Thank you, ma'am." Maddy smiled, "And I'm sorry."

Alicia paused for a moment before putting her PADD down. “Just to be open and honest if you’ve read my personnel file, which you are welcome to do so. You’ll see I’ve only just returned to my duties after a two year absence.” She paused for a moment. “I had a...difficult time accepting some losses and so I took the time I felt I needed. I feel that I’m ready to be here, and reading up I see the Counselling department has had a change of leadership pretty often of late. I don’t intend to let any of you down, I won’t suddenly up and leave.” She smiled. “So, back to all of you. Any more questions?”

Lunara internally shrugged - she didn't want to make the new chief think she was talking to a rough audience, so she might as well ask some questions. "I'm afraid I haven't read your personnel file, but what did to do before coming here?"

“Directly prior to coming here I took two years of personal leave, before that I was Assistant Counsellor aboard the USS Winchester.” Alicia offered Lunara a smile. “I took personal leave after some...personal losses.” She didn’t go into long details and hoped her explanation would suffice for now. “Okay I think I’ve taken up enough of everyone's time. We have people waiting for appointments so I’ll sort any requests for Counselling according to patient requests or requirements and your various skills. I don’t want to uproot anyone from the Counsellor they normally see if I can help it.” She looked at Savar. “Savar, I’ll be arranging to see you for my own evaluation. That’ll be added to your appointment schedule.”

Savar nodded his head fractionally, "Very well Lieutenant. I will see you at the appropriate time."

"Thank you Savar." Alicia smiled warmly. "Okay I'll let you all get back to your duties. Any problems or questions I'm always available." With that she moved around the other side of her desk to get on with some work. Watching the others go she smiled to herself, she was going to enjoy being aboard the Elysium.
