It was nearly the beginning of a new year and as standard it was time for the yearly Starfleet Engineering conference. This conference had become a staple of the Starfleet Engineers to band together once a year to share ideas and review and exchage information. Kara had always been too busy to attend in person, however she caught up on all the details piece by piece whenever she had downtime in the department.
This year the conference was being held on Vulcan. The conference would be streamed live to as many starships and starbases as possible to connect Engineers from across the galaxies for this cultural knowledge exchange.
She bounced into Main Engineering holding about twenty padd's, and quickly handed them out to the engineering team. Seeing Carter by the warp core console, she skipped over to him. "Right you, put down whatever your doing unless it's urgent and go into my office. Here's some info, you'll need it."
The padd's she handed him contained detailed specs of various Starfleet tech, repair reports from simple turbolift controls, to entire Starbase power networks and everything inbetween.
Carter looked over the padd, It seemed to be standard engineering tech, but he knew better then to argue with his department head. So he put aside what he was doing and headed to the office.
Kara quickly skipped round her team, finding Kaywin at the Damage control station. "Kaywin! No time to explain, bring your thinking hat, let's go, my office. No time, right now." She huffed, a little out of breath.
This year, Kara was given a directive by The head of Starfleet Engineering and as such, she and her team had no choice but to "attend". This was achieved through a live feed, effectively a conference call. She was excited, however also a bit peeved. She had to overhaul the impulse emitters tomorrrow and this conference would delay the preparations. However perhaps there may also be new tech or a better way of doing things that might make up for it.
Kara looked around one last time, sighing. "Dang it, Where is he?! I told him not to be late." She huffed. Almost as if he had been summoned, lieutenant Holt strolled through the main doors into Engineering, with two other engineering Officers, all carrying padd's. She scowled and moved her head in the direction of her office, turning quickly to head there herself.
Holt sighed but did not argue, just followed. As he entered there were in total Seven Engineering officers including himself. ~Whatever this conference is about, it must be something important I suppose.~ Shrugging to himself.
Kara turned to her team. "Alright everyone, the conference will begin in five minutes. This is the Yearly Starfleet Engineers conference, this year being held on Vulcan, in the spirit of trust and co-operation. I've given you all padd's containing various bits and pieces of Starfleet tech, located around the federation. The conference this year, will be about these technologies, and a place for us Engineers to put our heads together and maybe find ways to improve or change these technologies, so pipe up at any time if you get a good idea. Don't worry, it's an open conference, you'll soon see, it gets quite hectic. Thinking caps on everyone, the first half lasts an hour, then we break for lunch and the final session is another two hours. Everyone ready? Any questions before we begin?" She looked around her team. "There should be enough chairs for everyone."
Her entire office had been cleared all but the seven comfortable leather chairs and the wall monitors and screens to show the conference.
Carter had settled in one of the leather chairs, reading his Padd. He thought this was probably a waste of time, but he usually followed orders.
