Lia stood outside the Sickbay, this was the part of her job she hated the most. Medicals and special treatments that Star Fleet deemed important, with a rather large sigh she entered Sickbay. "Hello Doc, I've been told I have to report here. So here I am, and what do I have to do?"
" Pleassse take a ssseat and i'll get to you in a ssseconed." The gorn said as he began unassembling the implantation gun to make sure it was nice and clean before he began on the next round of patients.
Slowly sitting down, Lia watch the Gorn closely. "Ah Doc, just what is that thing?" She wasn't overly happy about being here, and now as she was about to get married and hopefully have children. The last thing she wants or needs is a Doctor telling her something she doesn't want to hear, so she sits quietly and waits for the Gorn to finish.
" Jussst been doing another round of the sssubdermal trackersss for the crew." The gorn said as he placed the parts back into the case. He'd already done the senior staff so it wouldn't be needed. " Ssso here for your medical checkup? If you'll just follow me we'll get it ssseen to." The gorn said as he lead the way to one of the biobeds.
Following the Gorn, Lia looked at the Bio bed. "Guess you want me on this thing". She climbed on the bed and sat waiting for further instructions, she just knew this Gorn Doctor would find something.
" Indeed. Any medical incidentsss not on file sssince your last checkup? " The gorn asked as he brought up the commander's last scan.
Lia glanced at the Gorn, "Only a slight psychological problem which Doctor Bashir of DS9 treated, it should be in my notes". She watched as the Doctor read all about her sexual troubles, and the unusual treatment that Bashir arrived at to treat her. She wondered just what the Gorn would make of her and what he would tell the Captain.
The gorns eye scrolled over the page and the notes that had been added. " I've met the good doctor Bassshir before back in the dominion war when I was ssserving in the KDF. He helped patch up my ssshoulder after one of my patientsss went beserk and took a chunk out of my ssshoulder. " the gorn added before he looked over at her. " I hope everything went well."
"As you can clearly see, he believes my problem is now under control. He never said cured, only that I have it under control". She glanced at the floor, "Does that mean there is no cure for my problem?" Lia would need an answer before she got married, "I intend to marry very soon, so I'd like an answer if there is one".
" There may be no cure I'm afraid. This is more of a psychological matter than a physical. Would you like me to book an appointment with the ssship's councilor? They'll know more about this than i do." The gorn said as he started up the bio beds scanners.
Lia shook her head, "No, I'll just keep going until I really need to see a councilor. But right now we need this medical out of the way, so what do you need me to do?" She felt she had addressed her problem, and that maybe as Gary had said it was time to move on. Plus she had a fellow Officer that needed her help to fit in with the Human population, things were getting busy for her. "I do need you to check on my ability to have children, Doctor Bashir did an operation to rectify damage to my reproductive system. Can you check to see if it's worked and everything is as it should be please?"
" Just keep ssstill and let the ssscan run. " The doctor said as he moved the data to the needed area. Now, this was an area he could help in. " Have you considered the ussse of an external artificial womb for having children? " He asked politely as his eyes began to look over the data. " It would be the sssafessst and quickessst way given the damage that's been done."
The Gorn's response wasn't what she was hoping to hear, "Does that mean the operation wasn't successful?" It would mean a very difficult talk with Gary, "I was hoping to have a natural birth, will I be able to have one?" His statement about damage made her think, "Just what damage is there still to be repaired, and can it be repaired?" Lia knew she was grasping at straws, but if a little grasping might work she would take that chance.
" No my dear. The operation has been very sssuccesssssful. I'm ssseing twenty-ssseven percent regeneration acrossss your sssystem. " he said tapping a few buttons to bring up the before and after holo images on a screen before turning it so she could see it. " I would recommend not trying for reproduction for a while yet. I could aid in the regeneration processsss with another minor sssurgery. It would mean your chancesss of conception and bringing the child to term would greatly increassse."
Those words where like magic to Lia, "I can wait for a baby, but when could you do that operation? I would be grateful if you could carry it out as soon as possible". She almost went to hug the Gorn, but thought better of it as he may not like it.
" I'll need to wait till I've had sssomething fixed myssself before I can perform the operation. Asss sssoon as it'sss done I can perform it." the gorn said warmly. " In the meantime, I'd like to start you on a test so we can determine the best time to give you the best chancesss of conceiving."
This time Lia couldn't stop her self, reaching forwards she hugged the Gorn Doctor. "You don't know what those words mean to me, I'll start the test any time you want me to. And as soon as your able, I'll be ready to undergo the operation. I think my intended husband might like the good news, and while I'm here I'm inviting you to the ceremony if you wish to attend". She suddenly felt as if a weight had been lifted, and her happiness was clearly visible.
The big was shocked for a second before he gently returned the hug. He knew exactly how much those words meant to any female or her mate. As the gorn wiped a tear from his eye he noted the familiar movement out of one corner of his eye. " Hello Ssshassssssou. " He said quilty as he looked at the now familiar spectral form in the corner of his eye.
Lia heard the Gorn say something as he hugged her, but she didn't hear it. "What did you say Doc? What are you looking at?" She followed his gaze and was sure she could see something, but it could just be the light and shadows playing tricks. She looked at his face and realised he was seeing something personal to him, "Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude. I'll wait until your ready to continue".
" It'sss okay. The problem I've been happening is I'm being haunted by the ssspirt of my dead wife. I'm organizing a gorn ritual to hopefully find out why ssshe'sss haunting me." He explained trying not to sound total crazy.
The response she got from the Doctor, took her by surprise. "Haunted by your dead wife? Was she overtly jealous?" Lia's almost normal answer, to a seemingly weird statement was typical of her. "I don't know you that well Doc, but if you need any help just call me". To Lia, if she could give back some help to someone who was going to help her. Then that's what she was going to do, "Just let me know when, eh Doc?"
" My Ssshassssssou was the least jelousss lifeform the universsse ever had. " The gorn replied with a warm smile of rembrance. " I do need some more volunteersss for the ritual that would allow me into the hunting groundsss ssso i can find out why ssshe'sss haunting me. I'll let you know when the ritual is to be done."
Smiling, Lia simply nodded. "I'll wait for that call, so am I all set for the void? Don't want the Captain getting all upset, if I fall ill or something". She now slid off the bio bed, "I have to report to the bridge, so am I finish here?"
" You're cleared for duty. Though if you feel the need to talk to me about anything my door'sss alwaysss open." The gorn said as he handed her a data crystal with a copy of the medical scan.
"Thanks Doc, and I may take you up on that". She turned for the door and then turned back to the Doctor, "You know when you spoke to your wife, I was sure I could see something over there in the shadows. Perhaps she really cares for you and is looking out for you, just a thought". She pointed to where the Gorn had been looking, then with a wave she turned and left.
" Take care. " the gorn said before he fumbled in his pockets for his notepad. That was an interesting development.
As she left, Lia noticed movement. She turned to see............................Nothing.
