Timeline: MD4
1304 words - 2.6 OF Standard Post Measure
Walking inside the CDID for the first time felt slightly strange, this had been where Holmes would have spent most of her time had things not changed the way they did, the place was spacious, far too much so for the lack of staff, but then again it was a new department he thought as he walked further inside.
Empty cubicles littered the large office complex that spanned what felt like the entirety of deck thirty one, the Elysium was a large girl but the lack of staff made it feel all the more desolate.
S'hib was at least thankful he didn't have to ask for directions, noting that there was nobody to ask as he followed the signs overhead to the Chief's office and knocked on the opaque glass outside with a single hoofed digit.
Casper has been at work far too long going over report after report after report. It was getting extremely tiring but never the less it was his job and he was going to do it. He almost didn't hear the tapping, looking up he saw the Sequus standing there. Racing through his brain he recalled the name and motioned for him to come in, "Lieutenant S'hib. Congrats on your promotion."
"Thank you," S'hib nodded, edging further inside. "How's the new department treating you?" He asked curiously, hoping to get a little insight before dropping bad news directly onto Caspers desk.
"It's not bad," he smiled and motioned for the fellow Lieutenant to sit, "still looking for some bodies if you're interested."
"I'm sure I can find time to help, but I think I'll keep with the yellow collar for now," S'hib replied as he slowly dragged the seat away from the desk and sat down, making sure to flick his lengthy tail to the side beforehand. "With everything that's happened with Moxton the last thing I want to do is damage morale in my department by leaving." He added, hoping Casper understood where he was coming from.
Casper nodded at the comment and his mind flipping to the new Officer they have inherited. His mind shooting back to the now, "What can I do for you, Lieutenant?"
"It's to do with Lieutenant M'Tuuri..." S'hib said with a disapproving tone, crossing his arms and sitting back in his seat.
'Man what is it with Officers not getting along with other officers on this ship,' he thought as he sat back in his chair, "what has my resident cat done?" He asked looking at S'hib, he couldn't wait to hear this one.
Looking briefly down at the floor S'hib slowly inhaled through his open mouth, wetting his lips as he looked back up and exhaled through his large nostrils. "The other day I found her in a maintenance room," He said, moving a hand up to rub his eyes. "She was removing her implant." He snorted as he recrossed his arms, wondering how Casper would react.
"Okay, and what did she say," he replied. The Captain had given a directive that they were to wear their implants at all times, he wasn't overly surprised that someone from his department would try to counter that, but he had hoped it would have been later rather that sooner.
"That it fell out while scratching her arm..." S'hib stated with a disapproving sigh, wondering if he rolled his eyes back any harder he might give himself whiplash.
"So I dragged her to sickbay, much to her displeasure I might add... quite a mouth on that one, you've got your work cut out."
"I can imagine," he pursed his lips as he debated about what to do, "Lieutenant thank-you for coming straight to me on this matter. I will speak with her. In the future though if she runs her mouth too much don't be afraid to spray her with water out of a spray bottle."
"Should I tell her before or after that I have your permission to do that." S'hib grinned in response.
"How about you say you found it in an old Earth document on ways to train cats," Casper grinned back before becoming serious again, "Seriously though. I will speak with her on this matter okay?"
"I wouldn't have brought it up if I didn't doubt you'd take it seriously." S'hib nodded respectfully.
"Not a problem at all Lieutenant, consider it a done deal," Casper stood up and held his hand out to S'hib to shake.
"Good luck." S'hib smirked as he clasped the other man's hand, shaking it firmly before leaving.
::Later::
Casper moved down the hall to Sh'iss work station, he knew that she had been on duty for about an hour now, he never liked to give news or reprimand staff within the first hour of their shift so as to try and not ruin the whole shift. Some times this work but most times it didn't. It still troubled him and yet was not surprising that a Member of his team would go to such lengths to defy the Captains orders, Casper blamed himself really maybe he just hadn't been clear enough.
Walking up to her cubicle he knocked on the frame, "Lieutenant. How are you?" he inquired.
"Do you want the universal standard reply to that question or do you really want to know?" M'Tuuri purred as she leaned back in her seat, crossing her arms under her breasts as she tilted her head towards Casper.
'When would she ever just answer a simple question with a simple answer,' he thought to himself momentarily before continuing, "I heard a strange story of an exchange between a Cat and a Horse on this vessel that seemed interesting. Anything you care to share?"
"I didn't know you had been reading books at the daycare centre?" She smiled mischievously, her eyes growing wide and dark as she looked up at Casper.
"I didn't think that a Cat would so readily go and defy the Captains orders," he replied losing all manner of friendliness, "The Captain gave that order for a reason Lieutenant. I expect that you heed it. CDID or not we still follow the Captains orders while on this vessel."
A disdainful growl left her lips as she turned away from Casper, quickly tapping on the LCARs at her desk and turning the screen black.
"Yeah well, I have another one in me now so you can calm down." She grumbled, folding her arms again and sulking.
"Let's ensure that it stays in you this time okay. I don't want to be hauled into the Captains Office because you couldn't follow her orders," he moved on to the next subject, "We have a new officer and a new Cadet within the Department. The Cadet I am assigning to you for the Cruise. As for the new officer I am want to give him to you as well if you feel up to the challenge for both."
M'Tuuri grinned. "Ah, give me all the jobs you don't want to do..." She said before slowly stretching her arms above her head. "Sure, go on then."
"Only the ones I know will make you aggravated," Casper replied with a grin, "Besides Moxton needs a firm grip on the reins I think, and I know you will be good for that job."
"A firm grip tends to work when you have claws." M'Tuuri purred, her eyes going wide at the prospect of having a new plaything.
'Yes... That's what I am missing... Claws,' He though silently smiling, "I trust you and Lieutenant S'hib will steer clear of each other?"
"If it can be helped." She replied somewhat cryptically.
"That's all I ask," He nodded. With that done he turned and headed back to his office to continue his work.
