Those civilian children under the age of 18, had spent their day putting the school to rights and helping calm down the younger students where needed. But for Miran and her class, it had quickly turned into emergency process review. And a history lesson on the time they had found themselves in.
Bored out of her mind, Miran had sat through the lesson and once the bell rang, had headed for the door of the room eagerly.
As she made it to the door Raye caught up to her. "Hey" she said brightly. "Why are you so mad?"
"I grew up in a culture like this. I am not impressed." Miran replied. "And my sister and I had to read up on Earth Culture years ago."
"Ah ok." Raye said slinging her bag over her shoulder.
The pair exited the school and Miran paused and smiled at a tall blond cadet heading in their direction.
Raye noted the cadet and also smiled. "Ohh who is that?"
"Triston Montgomery." Miran said noting the tone in Raye's voice.
"Nice." Raye said not paying attention to Miran and studying the Cadet.
Triston came over. "Miran." he said with a smile. "Ph.. Your sister sent me to make sure you get home."
Miran nodded. "Guess being flung into the past, negates grounding." She said.
Triston nodded. He looked at Raye. "Hi" He said and held out his hand. "I am Triston."
Raye shook it. "Raye." she replied with a smile and a slight flip of her hair. "Nice to meet you Triston."
He smiled back, friendly. "Nice to meet you too Raye. You must be new here."
"Yes, just started when Elysium left dock." Raye fell into step with them, unwittingly, it seemed stepping between Miran and Triston as they headed off down the halls. "So you are attending the on board academy, must be wonderful."
"It is pretty nice to be able to stay on the Elysium." He replied.
Miran on the far side of Raye, rolled her eyes and bit back a sarcastic retort.
Raye meanwhile kept her gaze on Triston. "Have you been on board a long time?" She asked.
"Yeah about two years now." He replied. He noted Miran was looked anywhere but at him. And he just stopped himself from frowning. "All cadets are being drafted into jobs around the ship for repairs. I however, was drafted by the Captain."
"Oh wow, that's got to be a good thing right?" Raye said her eyes wide.
"Yes, Captain Lalor is pretty cool to work with." Triston replied with a grin. "But part of my job is to make sure Miran gets home."
Raye glanced at the silent brunette beside her and smiled. "Must be nice to have such a gallant escort." she said as she turned back to Triston.
"I do my best" he replied. "And which deck are you headed to?"
"Deck 11." Raye said as they came to the turbolift.
"Don't you have to wait for your siblings?" Miran said suddenly.
"No, Mum came and collected them early." Raye said calmly.
The trio entered the turbolift, and Miran took the back corner of the lift and crossed her arms.
Ignoring the iciness from a girl she had been looking to be friends with, Raye turned her attention to Triston. "So, if you were here for a couple of years, your parents must be here too?"
"Yes." He ordered the lift to Deck 11.
"So, family cabins are deck 11, do you live there?"
"No I am in the Cadet quarters."
Raye beamed a smile at him. "Must be nice, to live on your own." The lift stopped at deck 11. "Here is my stop. Nice to meet you Triston, I hope I see you around again." She said brightly and held out a hand to him as she moved to the exit.
He shook it and smiled back. "Same goes Raye."
The strawberry blonde left the lift and the doors closed behind her.
Triston turned to Miran and frowned. "Whats wrong with you?" he asked her.
"Deck 17." She gritted out from between clenched teeth. She glared at him.
"What?" Triston repeated.
"You... You are really clueless aren't you." She snarled.
"Miran? What the hell is wrong with you?" Triston replied shocked.
The lift stopped at Deck 17 and Miran pushed past him, muttering in Erisian about men.
Triston followed her shaking his head in bewilderment. Girls!
