Heather sat on a biobed in Sickbay, for the last 48 hours she'd been back and forth to see Sthilg getting her body prepared to accept the three week old foetus due to arrive from Earth anytime. She'd been pumped so full of hormones that she was starting to have a much better understanding of the mood swings pregnant women went through. Her moods were up and down so much she didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The gorn had been off in his office thinking. He'd been doing that a lot recently and praying to ask for his wife and the all mother's advice. He'd tried burying himself in his work and fixing the books that the terrans had broken, but it wasn't helping. His white eyes noticed the time to which he sighed stood up and putting on his best smile stepped out into his home.

" Hello, Heather how are you feeling today." He asked calmly.

"Well let's see ..." Heather sighed. "Moody, nervous ... No actually terrified!" She took a deep breath. "About as expected for a woman whose about to be impregnated with a foetus, when it gets here!" She looked at the Gorn. "Forgive me Doctor I'm just wound up, how are you doing? You don't look your normal cheery self."

" I'm sssurviving. " He replied quietly. " If you'll just lay down I'll give you one lassst look over before the procedure getsss underway." He said his voice returning to it's normal pitch.

Heather nodded and lay back. “I’m hoping Fernando will be here soon, I know he’s busy and I won’t blame him if he can’t make it but I’d like the company.”

" I'm sssure he'll be here sssoon." The gorn replied as he took a seat on the stool next to the bed as he watched the data coming in.

“How do I look?” Heather looked at Sthilg. “I’ve seen other women go through this but I never thought I’d ever be the one doing it.” She smiled. “I understand you have an impeccable record when it comes to successful pregnancy care and deliveries. I’m glad to have you as my doctor.”

" Everything isss looking good and i thank you for your confidence. I've never failed one of thessse before and i don't intend to ssstart now." The gorn replied his spirits raised slightly.

“I’m a little rusty it’s been a while since I last helped out on one of these procedures” Heather smiled warmly. “How long do I need to rest for after this?”

" Asss long asss posssible especially given what everyone'sss been through." the gorn replied. " Your body is going to go through a ssshock even with the hormonesss. "

“Understood” Heather nodded and smiled.

Fernando headed towards Sickbay. He was still of two minds over them adopting the child of his evil mirror counterpart. He had no hatred for the child, just a general unease on his part for what his mirror had done. He was happy for Heather, she wanted to be a mother and she would be great at it. The problem was his. Entering Sickbay, he asked for directions to where Heather was. He soon found her, along with the CMO. :Hello Love, sorry to keep you waiting. Hi Doc." He said in greeting.

" Hello Rosa." The doctor said politely.

"It's De La Rosa." Fernando corrected politely.

" My apologiesss De La Rosssa." the gorn said standing up. " Now all we need is the other patient ."

A nurse appeared and spoke with the Doctor. The embryo had arrived.

Heather looked at Fernando as they had a five minutes alone, “You’re sure you want this? You're not going to hate me if I go through with this are you?”

Fernando took her hand in his, "Hate you? Heather you are my wife, I could never hate you. This something you've wanted, to be a mother."

“Yes it is” Heather looked concernedly at her husband. “But to be a mother to our child, one that makes you happy not sad.” She looked across at the doors as they opened, it looked like the time for decisions was up.

"The child makes me happy Heather. It is the child's father that makes me sad, ashamed." Fernando admitted. "I want you to be happy. I am with you on this all the way." He promised.

Heather smiled the biggest smile yet. “Then let’s do this.” She looked towards Sthilg to see if he was ready.

" one lassst chance to back out if your not ready." the gorn said

Heather nodded to the Gorn Doctor. “I’m ready”

" Well let'sss get thisss on the road." the gorn said as he pulled out a hypospray and pressed in into Heather's neck. " Jussst lay back and count back from five."

Fernando continued to hold Heather's hand. He leaned forward and kissed her. "I love you." He whispered.

Heather smiled and started counting. “Five .... four ... three ..” she was asleep before she got to two.

" And ssshe'sss out." The gorn said as he looked to the two nurses who would be helping him with the operation. " let'ss get this done. Chief i'll call you when the operation is completed." He said turning to De La Rosssa

"Thank you Doctor." Fernando replied as he found a chair to sit and wait for the procedure to be finished.


~ Sometime later ~

Heather slowly stirred from her slumber, opening her eyes she looked drowsily at Sthilg. “Hey” she smiled. “Did it ... work? Am I ...?

" Three week'sss pregent yesss. Implantation has been completely sssuccessssssful." the gorn said quietly.

Heather’s smile practically shone as she rested her hands gently on her stomach. “I’m going to be a mother!”

Fernando smiled at Heather's unconcealed joy. He would not take that away from her. "How do you feel Heather?"

Heather smiled at Fernando as she held her hand out to him. “Just a little drowsy, but Doctor Sthilg said I’d have to rest as much as possible.” She looked at Sthilg.

The gorn nodded. " and i've been helping people with pregnanciesss sssince before either of you two were born ssso listen, to the old doctor." he said with a weak smile.

"Of course Heather. I will make sure you get plenty of rest." Fernando assured her.

“I will do whatever you tell me to do doctor and I will rest, that I promise you Imzadi.” She smiled as she looked at Fernando.

"I know you will Heather. You have a baby to look after now."

Heather looked to Sthilg. "I know this is going to sound like a silly question but how long before I can get back to work? You need all the help you can get here." She looked around the various biobeds that had patients in them. "Do I need to stay in sickbay tonight?"

" I'd highly recommend it. I'd like to keep you under obssservation for a couple of days at the very leassst." The doctor added.

Heather nodded and looked at Fernando. “It looks like you’re on your own for a couple of nights Imzadi. Try not to have too much fun without me!”

Fernando nodded, "The nights will be long and lonely until you come home Heather." Fernando replied sincerely.

“If you get lonely you’ll know where to find me” Heather smiled warmly.

"Indeed I do Heather but I don't believe the nursing staff will look kindly on me being in bed with you." Fernando replied sincerely.

" If I may can I check on your heart murmer. We need to make sssure everything going sssmoothly." The doctor lizard asked.

Heather nodded. “Of course Doctor” She offered a warm smile.

Fernando made sure he was out of the way so the doc could check Heather's heart murmer He didn't want any complications for Heather with this pregnancy.

The gorn gave a warm smile as he looked at the results. " Everything looking good."

Heather smiled as she looked at Fernando. “See nothing to worry about!”

"Yes. Very good Heather. Let us keep it that way." Fernando answered with a smile.

Heather nodded in agreement.
