Rin made her way to the Intelligence blister, a startling big space for her department, with a central bank of consoles in the middle and a variety of more specialized ones spread around it. She introduced herself to the assembled crew. She had already read their files, so the process was pretty straightforward.

She stepped among the central consoles and began familiarizing herself with it. Two of the screens were having trouble crosschecking information. She tried troubleshooting it, and one of the screens locked her out entirely, and nothing she did convinced it to be otherwise.

She explained the problem to one of her subordinates.

"I don't think anyone has tried to get the system to do that," he replied.

"Very well." She waved him back to his station and tapped her badge. "Rin to Operations. Can I get someone to come to the intelligence blister? I've been locked out of one of my consoles."

"Ayeeep! Lieutenant JG Myne Redal, Assistant Chief Operations Officer here. Have you tried typing on the console? Or see if it is plugged in and has power? Actually, the power button? Do you have the authorization codes to use it?" The voice of a young sounding girl replied, in a very chirpy, cheerful, and bubbly tone. Myne was in Ops, just doing Myne things. Chief Baeryn ran a tight shift and a good team, so Myne had quite a lot of time on her hands to multitask doing several things at once.

"What?" Rin utterly, mostly to herself. It took her a long moment to process the response she had just received. "Lt. Redal, this is Lt. Rin, Chief Intelligence officer, and I am, in fact, knowledgeable of the operation of consoles. It does have power. It's telling me I don't have the authorization to access my own systems. I would run diagnostics, but it doesn't think I have the authorization to do that either. Can Operations *please* send someone to look at this?"

"Erm, oh new chief! Heya! I am so happy to hear you can operate consoles!! Yay!!" Myne replied cheerfully, with a tone of actual cheer and innocent earnestness.

Rin dropped into her chair, sat back and pinched the bridge of her nose as she contemplated how long it might take for someone to show up.

About five minutes later there's a chime at the door to the Intelligence Blister. Myne stood by the door smiling, humming to herself, her PaDD held to her chest and a tool belt around her waist. After being let in by someone in the department she entered and looked around. "Yellow!! Lt. Rin?!" She called out in her bubbly tone, looking around smiling.

*Yellow?* she thought. A moment later she realized what Redal meant. *At least I know she came in person. I'm reasonably confident there's only one person on board with that voice.*

She approached the Ops officer and offered a hand. "Hello, I'm Rin. Thank you for coming."

Taking the offered hand Myne smiles and nods. "Heya! We talked on the coms earlier! Heard you have trouble with your, erm, console disfunction. Your trouble in getting it, erm, on?!" She chuckled at her bad puns and jokes, still keeping an innocent, well-meaning smile.

Rin, who either didn't understand or didn't care about the joke, motioned for Redal to follow her over to the station, waving her hands at the various readouts.

"These work perfectly fine. This one," pointing to a screen displaying a large "ACCESS DENIED" warning on it, "Had been working fine, and then it didn't. I was trying to sync up the data here with files displayed on this monitor," she points to the screen to the offender's left, "And it lost its damn mind."

"Oh, I think I know what might be going on. There was a problem some time ago with old codes not being properly scrapped from the system. And they were overriding the new ones." Myne explained and placed her PaDD on the offending console. The, taking a screwdriver from her belt, knelt down on her hands and knees, and began undoing the bottom panel of the console, not really caring how ridiculous she might look down there.

Panel went off, she pulled a cable and connected it to her PaDD, taking a seat on the floor with the PaDD in hand. Starting to type on it the console began going crazy, glitching quite a bit. "Ooooh yeah, your codes are interfering with the previous ones. Seems this console didn't properly install the new software updates. Nothing serious chief. Gonna solve in two skips of the beat."

"Excellent." Standing straight, hands behind her back, Rin hovered over Redal's shoulder to watch what she was doing. If she could correct the problem herself in the future, that would be one less thing for operations to worry about...and one less reason to interact with this strange little woman.

She corrected that last thought. She really didn't know Lt. Redal. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. Except she was way too cheerful for a bad day. So perhaps original judgment should stand.

"Alright, I think I am done rewriting the code and making the update manually. Try your code now!!" Myne got up smiling sunshine and rainbows, holding the PaDD to her chest and waiting. Of course, after pulling the cord out of it. The PaDD looks Starfleet in origin, but it has suffered tremendous modifications. As for what Myne had done, lines and lines of code, moving through them and changing things by reflex mostly. "Well? Come on!" She eagerly tapped the console waiting for Rin to use it, now that the normal interface had returned.

She afforded Redal's exuberance a bit of a smile. Liking one's work was good. She leaned over the controls, tapped in her codes, then tested out the commands she had been previously working on. The smile widened as everything worked as it should. "That seems to have done it. Thank you."

"No problemo buddy!" Myne chuckled and patted Rin on the back with a wide smile. Not what a normal Starfleet officer would do, but then again, what did Myne know about Starfleet regulations? Aside from knowing them by heart, damn Redal, but did she ever pay attention? Nope! "Told ya I would get this solved in a jiffy! If you ever feel bored and feel like chatting, give me a buzz. Or if you have other issues with your consoles. That's us in Ops are for!"

*This was not going to end well,* Rin thought. But she had learned to take advantage of such showings of outreach.

"I don't have plans after shift. How about meeting up at your Arcadia Lounge? I don't know anyone yet."

"Really?" Myne suddenly stared in surprise before smiling really happily. "Thank you! I'd love to go to the Lounge with you! I like making friends and you seem very easy to talk to." Going back down under the console the put the cable back in and close the panel, Myne took her PaDD and got ready to leave. "I promise I am not that bad once you get to know me a little bit!"

"1800 hours then?"

I LOVE IT!! Something tells me this was just the start of a very *entertaining* friendship between these two.
