After the sudden and unexpected arrival of her son Heather was still in Sickbay under general observation. Truth be known she was grateful for the help of the Sickbay staff, as well as Fernando as the birth had well and truly worn her out. She was sitting gently cradling baby Cody marvelling at his tiny size, and features when the doors to Sickbay opened.
Fernando came into the room, carrying a teddy bear and flowers. "A beautiful sight my lovely wife and son sitting together. " As he got close he handed the flowers to Heather along with the teddy bear. "Flowers are for you my love. Teddy Bear is for Cody. "Oh! This is for you as well." As he brought forth a small box of chocolates.
Heather smiled as she accepted the chocolates, placing the teddy bear on top of Cody’s little lap. “Thank you Imzadi, you’re wonderful you know that?”
"I am a man totally in love with his wife and his new son." Fernando answered with a smile. "How are you feeling sweetheart?"
“Tired, but grateful to the Sickbay staff for all their help.” Heather stifled a yawn. “It looks so easy when you see other families with children, it’s anything but. Not that I’m complaining, I just need to get myself into a routine.”
"You will Heather and I will help you any way I can." Fernando replied eagerly. "You are already a good mother. Cody could not have a better mother." He bent forward and kissed Heather, tears in his eyes. "I am the luckiest man alive to have you and Cody in it." He told Heather.
“No, I’m the one whose lucky to have been saved, married and be so much in love with you!” Heather smiled as she returned Fernando’s kiss.
Fernando smiled brilliantly at her, "Now, we can use those baby items we bought while n our honeymoon. you know when we became rich." He said the last part in a whisper so only Heather could hear.
Heather looked surprised. “I’d completely forgotten about that!” She grinned.
Fernando chuckled, "But I hadn't. In fact I had it moved to our quarters, so when you and Cody come home it's all there ready to be used."
Heather was about to answer when she saw David and Baeryn enter Sickbay.
Baeryn entered first, her right hand still intertwined with David's as she quickly scanned sick bay for Heather and Fernando. When she spotted them she clutched the present they had brought tighter. She turned to David and spoke excitedly, "Over there,"
David saw their quarry and grinned. "Lead on, good woman." He gave her a playful wink and grin as he finished speaking
Trying her best to keep an even pace, Baeryn pulled David towards the couple and their new bundle of joy. Baeryn's obsidian eyes lit up as she got closer, whispering to Heather as to not wake the baby, "He's so small!"
David grinned, seeing the newborn baby boy. Looking over at Fernando, he offered his hand. "Congrats, Dad. Looks like we just got a new handsome stud in the Elysium stable."
Fernando smiled brilliantly as he took David's hand and gave a firm handshake. "Thank you very much David. He is handsome isn't he?" His eyes going back to Heather and his son.
Heather smiled warmly. “It’s so nice to see you both. We decided to call our son Cody Sthilg De La Rosa.”
David smiled warmly at the happy little family. "That sounds like a wonderful name. I'm sure Doc was quite moved to be included thusly?"
Heather nodded. “I’m sure he was. Would either of you like to hold Cody?”
David nodded, but, looked at Baeryn, knowing that she would like to do so first.
Baeryn had trouble hiding her eagerness to hold the small bundle, "Are you sure?"
Heather smiled. “It’s fine, you won’t hurt him.” She gently held her son outwards towards Baeryn.
Baeryn slowly took Cody into her arms, her face that of one filled with awe. Sure she had held children before, but never this soon after birth, never this small. Her smiled widened as Cody adjusted himself in her arms until he found a spot more comfortable.
Whilst Baeryn was enjoying some time with the baby Heather looked towards David. "Feel free to have a turn if you'd like David, once Baeryn has finished that is" she grinned at the look of awe on Baeryn's face.
David grinned broadly. He then looked at Baeryn, about to ask for a turn, then stopped when he saw how much she was glowing at that moment. Looking back to Heather, he replied softly, "And ruin that image?" He finished with a loving smile.
Heather grinned. "So how long until the two of you have your baby?" she looked at David curiously,
David looked over at Heather and smiled warmly. Still several months away yet. Though, I wish it was today, so We could hold our new baby as well!" He then looked back over at Baeryn, the look of complete love and devotion for her was clearly evident in his eyes and smile.
Heather smiled as she saw the same look in David that Fernando gave her. "It's obvious just how much you two love each other."
His smile grew even bigger as he replied. "She is my everything. Well," he corrected himself with a grin. "They both are my everything. I would give them everything I have, willingly. There is no length that I would not go, to keep them both safe from all harm."
Heather smiled and nodded. "Of that I've no doubt." She smiled the biggest smile yet as she looked towards Fernando, there was nothing she wouldn't do for him.
Fernando saw Heather's bright smile directed at him and he gave her one of equal brilliance. Heather and Cody were his world and he would move heaven and earth to keep them safe.
Baeryn swayed slowly with Cody, the infant fast asleep in her arms. She had momentarily zoned out from the group. Studying the baby's features as it slept. She finally looked up, instantly blushing with the knowledge that she was hogging little Cody. She smiled at David, "Are you ready to hold him?"
David's smile grew even brighter as he nodded happily. He opened his arms and took gentle hold of little Cody as Baeryn laid him into David's arms. "Well, hello little man!" He cooed softly. "It's been a few hundred years since I've held a baby, it never gets old!" He eyes glistened slightly as he looked down at the newborn.
"A few hundred years" Heather looked at David in amazement. "I can't imagine what that must be like."
"Yeah," David replied softly as his eyes stayed glued to Cody's sleeping face. "An old Army buddy and his young wife had had a little boy a few weeks before the Eugenics Wars began." His voice took on a slightly somber tone. "Fred died in my arms, in combat three weeks later. I don't know whatever happened to his son, as my people pulled all El Aurians from Earth right afterwards. I didn't see Earth again until the 2200's." As he spoke he continued to gently rock young Cody. Finally, handing him back to Heather.
"Sorry," he gave them a sad grin. "Didn't mean to bring the mood down. You can ask Baeryn, sometimes when I start down memory lane, I get locked in until the end." He shrugged. "Guess it's a curse of having so many up in this noggin."
Heather offered an understanding smile. "It's okay, if you ever want to sit and talk about it you're always welcome." she gently cradled Cody, she was still in awe at just how tiny he was. "If there's ever anything either of you need all you have to do is ask."
Baeryn laid a comforting hand on Davids shoulder when she caught the change in his voice. Then responded to Heather, "I believe that's what we should be saying to the two of you." She laughed lightly, "Congratulations again, and know were always available to help if you ever need it."
Feeling her tender touch on his shoulder, David carefully rotated his arm up and behind Baeryn, holding her gently against his left side. "Yes, whatever you guys need. All you have to do is ask." He smiled at both Heather and Fernando. These three people had been the first people, outside thearine compliment, that he had gotten to know. Of course, when one is acting as overarching for the others, while trying to survive on a alien planet, friendships start to be made. He looked down at Baeryn, his smile growing slightly. It was certainly the case between the two of them.
"Just remember you said that when we call on you to babysit." Heather grinned.
David returned her grin. "We're not scared," he said confidently. He then looked down at Baeryn, smiling warmly. "Right, Baer?"
Baeryn nodded confidently, "Anytime you need us, we'll be there."

What a fun reading. Thank you!
I really got the sense of excitement from Heather and the sense of anticipation from Baer. A nice, happy read. Well done and thank you.
