Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: USS Elysium, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 1 / 1854 hours
1642 words - 3.3 OF Standard Post Measure

While Mattias was out of immediate danger, he was still listed as in critical condition. He remained in the medically-induced coma, which Sthilg had put him in to save his life.

Phoenix made it back from the bridge and entered Medical . She paused and looked around for Kara or Sthilg.

Having felt a familiar presence Kara was quick to head to greet Phoenix. “Phee.. am I glad to see you! Matt is out of surgery, Sthilg said Matt is stable but there’s still more surgery ahead. They have to replace some of his organs.”

Phoenix nodded and took a breath. "Ok... so visiting hours?"

Kara shrugged her shoulders. “Whenever you like, if you’d like some time alone with Matt I can step out? I’m not leaving Sickbay until I know he’s totally out of the woods.” She stifled a yawn, not having slept since Mattias came in.

Phoenix had not slept either but she had been busy on the bridge "Malakai will kill me if you dont rest." she said.

“True” Kara nodded. “I’ll do you a deal, I’ll sleep if you promise to call me if there’s any changes.”

Phoenix nodded. "I promise " she said softly. "Now go."

====A few hours later====

Down in sickbay, the very tired Gorn was busy at work with his patient. More replacement organs, fresh blood vessels and tissue had all been applied. Now, he wiped his brow as he sat down on the stool next to him. If everything went okay, Mattias would be making a full recovery.

Emily offered a warm, caring smile as she walked up behind Sthilg. “Why don’t you go to your office and rest? I can stay with Mattias for a while, call you if you’re needed.”

" I can sssleep when I'm dead." the gorn said opening his coffee flask and downing the whole thing in one very long gulp. His white eyes felt tired before he noticed the doors open. " Captain." He said shooting to his feet as fast as he could.

Phoenix moved to the doctor's side and touched his shoulder. "Hey, you look like you need a break" she said softly.

Emily looked at Phoenix. “That’s what I’ve been saying Captain.” With that she smiled and left them both to talk.

Phoenix looked at the doctor "You do no one any good if you are exhausted Doctor." she said as she kept her gaze on Sthilg.

Sthilg was about to argue, but he sighed as he held up his hands. " Your right captain. I'll be in the ressst room if I'm needed."

"Good. I will sit with him." Phoenix said turning towards the bio bed.

While Mattias was still in a medically-induced coma, he had no idea that the woman he loved was now by his side.

Vise was now running sickbay with the good doctor Sthilg fast asleep in the restroom as everyone could tell from the loud snoring coming from within. Walking over to her captain she gave a her a warm smile. " Captian do you need me to get you anything?" She inquired.

"No thank you" Phoenix said with a nod. "I will just sit with Captain Richardson."

The next few hours went by quietly, as Mattias's body continued to recover from the surgeries that saved his life. Nurses would come in to check on both his vitals and to see if their Captain needed anything. Out of respect for her, visitors were kept away, so she would be allowed to let her professional exterior relax some.

Phoenix sat there, holding Matt's hand and letting her face show all her emotions.

Sthilg had woken up and after scoring a protein cube and a jar of coffee he was back on his rounds. Coming up to the captain he gave her a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder just as Mattias began to twitch.

As his body and mind continued to heal, the synapses in Mattias's brain started to fire, slowly at first, but quickly increasing towards normal activity. Deep in the recesses of his mind, memories started to play. Some good, others quite painful indeed. The growing stimulation started to cause his bio readings to elevate.

In her quarters Kara stirred too, she’d always been sensitive to Mattias but more so when she was fearing for him. Opening her eyes she quickly sorted herself out then headed for Sickbay. As the doors opened for her she walked in heading straight for Mattias. “How is he?” She looked at Phoenix and Sthilg.

" Coming round now." Sthilg said as he finished injecting the marine with a few more drugs to stabilise him. " Can you hear me Mattias?"

Phoenix took a shallow breath and held his hand tightly. "Matt..." she whispered.

Kara stood beside Phoenix clenching her hands tightly as she waited for Mattias to respond.

For several moments, Mattias didn't respond. Then, slowly, his brows furrowed and he grunted a bit louder. In a very raspy voice, he finally spoke, though it was weak in strength. "....Ugh....anyone...get the license number...of the ocean that...that hit me.....?"

Phoenix lowered her head and muttered in Erisian "Ed' i'ear ar' elenea!" She couldn't look up, she would burst into tears if she did.

" Easssy captain. You've been through quite a few sssurgeriesss." Sthilg said concernedly.

Hearing Erisian, Mattias knew it was his angel. "Cormamin lindua ele lle," he said softly as he turned his head towards her. "Don't cry, my love....you're not...not getting...rid of me...that easily."

"I am not crying" Phoenix denied.

“You’re not getting rid of me either” Kara grinned as she stepped up on the opposite side of Mattias, gently placing her hand on his arm. “You had me worried big brother! Phee had to kick me out of here to go get some rest.”

Malakai had come down from the bridge. he hadn't gotten an update on Matt and was worried (For Kara's sake of course) when he entered Sickbay, he saw Kara, Phoenix the Doc and Matt now awake. "I didn't realize we were having a family reunion. Good to see you awake Matt." He turned to Phoenix. "I left Mr. Gregory in charge of the bridge." He explained.

Kara offered an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, I would have called.”

"It's okay Kara. You were concerned about Matt." Malakai replied with a smile of his own.

Kara nodded and hugged her husband, he always gave her strength just by being there.

Malakai wrapped his arms around Kara, she was the best thing to ever happen to him. that would ever happen to him.

Phoenix turned to Sthilg. "How long will he need to be here for?"

" A few more daysss jussst to be on the sssafe ssside." Sthilg replied with a smile on his toothy lips.

Mattias turned his gaze to Sthilg. "Give it me straight, Doc. What happened to me? Last thing I remember was telling Man'darr to seal the turbolift and I'd veam myself out once I separated my suit's power supply from the Jefferson." His eyes went wide at that point, as he looked down at Phoenix. "Did everyone get out?!"

"Everyone got out. Though I'd advise you not to go diving in a sssuit without it's power sssupply next time. I may not be able to put you back together next time." The old doctor said as he handed him a list of just what he'd had to fix up/replace.

Mattias looked over the extensive list of what had been done to him to save his life. "Wow," he said softly. "I haven't been this busted up since I first met...." he stopped speaking before he said the name of his dead wife. The emotions of that loss washed over him as he gripped Phoenix's hand for support and strength.

Clearing the growing emotions out of his throat, Mattias looked back up at Sthilg. "Th-thanks Doc. I owe you one for putting me back together."

Kara had kept her distance to allow Phoenix to be there for Matt, she offered a very relieved smile. “I was so worried! We’re going to make sure you follow Doctor’s orders for your recovery.”

Phoenix squeezed Matt's hand. She knew what he was not saying. "Yes, you will follow the doctors orders or you will be in big trouble. " she said softly. "No one goes against him." Not even the Captain.

Looking at both women of his life, Mattias gave them a sad grin. "Far be it from me to go against either of you." He then looked down at Phoenix. "Amin hiraetha." He was just starting to realize what would have happened to her had he died.

"Just don't do it again" Phoenix said softly.

He gave her a wee smile and squeezed her hand, the best he could do right now as a reply.

Kara smiled as she leant in and gave Mattias a soft kiss on the cheek. “I’ll leave you to get some rest, I’ll be back to visit and check on you.”

Mattias looked over at his baby sister and smiled softly. "Thanks, Little Girl." He thought of her warmly, as a big brother would his little sister, knowing she would be able to pick upon his thoughts.

Nodding Kara smiled at Phoenix and at Sthilg then headed on her way.

As promised, a few days later, after Stilg had felt he was strong enough, Mattias was released from sickbay and returned to Phoenix and his cabin. He was still being put on light duty, however, he was allowed to rest at home now.

Oh yeah. Quite nice to see that Captain Richardson made it and is on the mend. Put us all through quite a scare there.
