When the pods reached the Elysiums shields, they were caught briefly, before pushing through. Each one then slammed onto the hull at various locations on Elysium, the spinning drill heads digging into the solid duranium hull plating as if it was thin aluminum.
::The bridge shook again as the pods slammed against the Elysium’s duranium plating. The sound of drilling reverberated through the decks.::
As soon as the pods latched on, the front hatches irised open and the hounds poured out, attacking anyone nearby, killing everyone in front of them.
As soon as the pods connected with the hull, new alarm klaxond began ringing through the ship. "Breach! Intruder alert!! We have breaches on decks five, eight, ten, fifteen and twenty!"
Inside her quarters Emily leapt into action, grabbing a phaser and setting it to as high a stun setting as it would go. Right now she was wishing Zac was with her, but she knew she was on her own. Question was dare she step outside?
As the alarms started going off, Second Lieutenant Slarth, "Tink", was in the shuttlebay, checking on the manufacturing status of one of the Raptors that had been ordered from the team running the industrial replicators. She hurried to the nearby weapons locker and handed out phasers, taking the sole compression rifle for herself. "C'mon," she whispered as she led the shuttlebay techs out into the corridor.
Down in the ship's marine country, the Orion gunny had slapped herself into her armour before grabbing her rifle from the armoury. She had her orders, and those were to get to the shuttle bay and repeal any boarders.
Before Tink and the techs could step out into the corridor, a metallic projectile sailed through the air, over Tink's head and into the chest of Crewman Ethan Harrison, a young Human, on his first starship assignment. He had managed to scrape by all of the other troubles that had befallen Elysiym since he joined her ranks, but now, as his life slowly evbed away, he looked down at the projectile that had him pinned to the bulkhead behind him, and had just enough strength, to whisper, "Mama..." and then he was gone.
"Get back!" Tink shouted as she fired several blasts from her phaser at the approaching nightmares. Though her species were known to be cowards at heart, Slarth had evolved past that, when she first joined Starfleet, then the Starfleet Marine Corps. She no longer felt that ingrained flight response. She only fought.
Firing more, she depleted the power cell of one phaser, then she grabbed another, firing on full power, giving the techs time to hide or figure out a new attack. She managed to kill three of the hideous creatures, before a fourth one was upon her, slicing off her arm that held the phaser. As she howled in agony, it picked her up, a fifth one grabbing her legs. In one strong yank, she was ripped apart, her green blood and entails spraying over the deck. Her final fleeting thought was of her best friend, George, and how good he looked on the day of his wedding to Leilani.
Leaving her quarters Emily had no choice but to run as fast as she could, the vision that met her eyes was one of horror, people downed in corridors most of those downed had been torn apart. She paused long enough at the side of a young ensign who was barely alive, nasty injuries having caused massive blood loss. She wasn’t going to let anyone die alone, as she crouched down offering comfort in the young woman’s last moments.
Around the corner came two cadets, one in science Blue, the other Medical Teal. Both were armed with phaser rifles and one, the female in Medical blue, had a sword strapped across her back and two wicked daggers at her hips. Both were firing at hounds that were following them. The hounds fell and both seemed to take a breath. "This is what I get for going to get a coffee" The male in blue all but snapped at the female in Teal.
"oh wha wha." the girl quipped. "It will teach you to follow Clary."
The science cadet rolled his eyes and turned to look down the hall. He spotted Emily kneeling by another officer.
Emily turned to see who was behind her. “What’s our status?”
"I believe the term is Hell in a handbasket" Miran said to the nurse. She looked down at the deceased officer. "We need to move on, and fast. These things are nasty."
Emily nodded. “I noticed, but I can’t just leave any wounded I find I’m a trained surgical nurse I might be able to help any that are still alive.”
From down the corridor, a roar could be heard echoing towards them.
Miran took a breath. "Sorry Sir but that's our signal to move." The first year cadet reached down and hauled Emily to her feet.
Tristan meanwhile looked around and then headed towards the nearest tube entrance further down the corridor. "This way." He said softly.
Miram pushed Emily after Triston.
A dozen meters away, there was a crashing sound, as the large hound smashed through a bulkhead, its shield flickering, due to damages and injuries it has sustained thus far during the attack. Its one remaining operational eye, locked onto the fleeing g prey and it howled, as it started to do a stumbling run after them. It tried to fire a spear at them, bit the launcher was already depleted. Still it came.
Miran pushed Emily to Triston "I'narr en gothrim glinuva nuin I'anor" she said in her native tongue and she drew the long sword from her back. She faced the wounded beast and headed towards it.
"MIRAN!" Triston yelled "Don't be stupid."
Seeing the small prey moving towards it, the hound snarled, extending the heated claws in its left paw, its right paw was mangled and dripping blood. It hurried in its advance, as damaged implants sparked all over it.
The bulkhead groaned as the damaged hound limped forward, molten sparks dripping from its claw servos. Every footfall left a burning smear on the deck.
Miran’s boots squeaked against blood-slick plating as she advanced. Her pulse pounded in her ears; she could feel the vibration of the beast’s roar in her ribs.
“Come on then,” she whispered, switching her grip and letting the tip of her sword drag a screeching line across the floor.
The creature lunged—fast, even wounded. Miran dropped low, feeling the rush of heat as its claws raked the air above her head. She rolled, coming up beneath its guard, and slashed upward in a single brutal arc. The blade bit deep through its flank, sending up a shower of molten fluid that hissed when it hit her uniform.
It turned, howling, its remaining eye flaring red. One swipe caught her shoulder and sent her sprawling against the wall. Pain flared white—but she pushed up again, sword steady.
“Elysium doesn’t fall today,” she breathed.
The beast charged. Miran waited until the last heartbeat—then stepped aside, driving the blade through the damaged plating of its chest and straight into the pulsing implant cluster beneath. The hound convulsed, claws carving furrows in the deck, sparks bursting from every joint.
With a final surge, Miran twisted the hilt and shouted, “Il cin uglui radag!"
The creature exploded in a burst of white-hot plasma, throwing her backward. She hit the wall hard and slid down, chest heaving. Smoke and ozone filled the corridor.
Triston’s voice came faintly through the haze. “Miran! You alive?”
“Mostly,” she groaned, forcing herself to her knees. “Beast isn’t.”
“That was brave, but stupid!” Emily shook her head as she took a look at Miran’s wounds. “Now you’re wounded too, we need to keep moving but I’ll need to treat your wounds as well. Let’s find somewhere safer first!” She temporarily padded the scratches from the beast’s claws before helping Miran to her feet.
Triston came over and helped Emily pull Miran up to her feet. "Come on, Medical is a few decks down. Lets get moving."
