Triston had been to counselors before. As a fleeter brat, he had been on his fair share of ships and seen numerous counselors. But truthfully this would be his first visit as a Cadet.
He moved down the hall and stopped outside the office of the counselor assigned to him. He hit the chime.
Savar was at his desk when his chime sounded, he had just finished watering the plants in his office. "Enter." He called out as he instinctively sat straighter behind his desk and awaited his visitor.
Triston entered and gave a slight nervous smile. "Uh.. Commander, Sorry, I am here for my counseling review? I am Triston Montgomery."
Savar looked Triston over, his face a mask. Then he spoke. "Apology is unnecessary Mr. Montgomery as you have done nothing to apologize for.
Please take a seat so we may begin."
Triston did so, moving swiftly to sit where indicated by the counselor.
Savar looked across the desk at the young man. " You are a freshman cadet in the onboard Academy. Have you decided on a major?"
"Yes Sir. I am to major in Science, with Archaeology as the main focus." Triston replied.
"Interesting. How did you reach the decision to major in that particular field Mr. Montgomery?" Savar inquired.
"Not too long Sir. I have been on Starfleet vessels all my life, and I have always enjoyed a more hands on approach to learning, and I enjoy exploring the history of places."
"Interesting." Savar intoned an made a notation on his PaDD. "I see your parents are both in Science. Are they by chance Archaeologists?"
"No my father is a biologist and my mother is a linguist." Triston replied.
"How do they feel about your intended field of study? Do they support your decision?"
"They are happy I got into Starfleet and more than happy that I am able to attend it here on the onboard campus. As for my field of study, they are fine with it. As my father said, it was better than my going into security or the marines."
"Is this because your father feels that either security or the marines would be too difficult?' Savar pressed.
"No, it is because he believes that Security and Marines are not very intellectual. That and when we met our temporal doubles one time, mine was a security officer."
"I believe Commander Holmes and Major Naxea would take exception with your father's view. However that is not why we are here. You stated your temporal double was a security officer. Was there something you saw in him that you did not like?"
Triston considered it for a moment. "He was secretive. I know that was because of the Temporal prime directive but it seemed over the top to me."
"Perhaps." Savar stated/ "Have you considered that he was secretive because he did not wish to influence any decision you made by you having additional information which could taint any decision you made?"
"Yeah of course but somethings were just plain obvious a blind mute could have read them."
Savar quirked an eyebrow at that but remained silent, waiting to see if Triston was going to elaborate on his statement.
Taking the silence as a 'go on' Triston gave a small shrug. "I figure he was trying to keep things on the down low so the captain didn't gut him, but it was fairly obvious that my temporal self was sleeping with the captain's sister."
"I see and how do you feel about Her Royal Highness? Has this information affected your relationship with her?"
"She is my best friend." Triston said simply. It was pure fact and said without any disguise. "Miran is fun to hang around, and she is smart, really smart and her art is amazing. She is applying to study painting in London."
"How do you feel about that? If accepted she will undoubtedly leave the Elysium." Savar pointed out.
"Its what she wants. And she will learn lots there." The cadet replied simply. "And I support her. Her sister supports her. She cannot be constantly protected."
"A most mature decision Mr. Montgomery. "Putting your feelings, your desires aside for the betterment of another." Savar replied. "Do you socialize Mr. Montgomery?"
"Sure, when i can. There are a few of my classmates in the onboard academy and I study in a study group, 2 nights a week."
Savar made another notation. "What of extracurricular activities such as sports?"
"I use the ship pool on occasion and I enjoy holodeck programs." Triston replied.
Savar pushed his PaDD to the side and looked across the desk at Triston. His eyes unreadable. "Are you happy Mr. Montgomery? I do not mean so much as here but with yourself?"
"Yes" Came the honest reply. "I am."
Savar reached for the PaDD made a final note and looked at Triston. "The session id over Mr. Montgomery. You may leave. Thank you for your time as well as your answers."
"Oh, thank you commander" Triston smiled and stood.
"You are welcome Mr. Montgomery and before you give yourself an ulcer about this session. I find you a reasonably well adjusted young man quite able to continue his studies in the shipboard Academy." Savar informed him.
Triston gave him a brilliant smile. "Thank you Commander." He saluted and left the office.
