Mission: Season 5: Episode 1: No Exit
Location: Security Office
Timeline: -MD7 09h00 (2/1/2397)
2502 words - 5 OF Standard Post Measure

It was the first of many inspections, Phoenix and Gary had to undertake, and the fact that they had chosen Security first was to simply get it done and out of the way.

Ensign Hamilton entered the Security office ahead of the Captain and First Officer and notified Lieutenant Triannth of their impending doom.

Serenity moved swiftly to the Chief's office and rapped on the door. "Hey boss, Brass is coming down. Inspection."

"Sugar, Honey, Ice, Tea!!! Get the troops ready Lieutenant, and hide the bloody biscuits". Lia stood up and headed for the door, "They always eat all the bloody biscuits, no wonder staff Officers are fat".

As they approached the entrance to the security department, Gary glanced over at Phoenix, "This should be interesting to say the least. Have you got your white gloves?"

Opening the door Lia came face to face with the Inspection Staff, "Oh! Captain its you and my husband, please proceed".

Gary resisted rolling his eyes at Lia's statement. "You act surprised Lia. Just who were you expecting?"

Turning to face her other half, she replied. "On these snap inspections, you never know just who the hell is going to turn up. For all I know you've got Commander Garrett Lovejoy hidden away somewhere, your just the type to do that dearest husband". She blew Gary a kiss as she finished, then turned back to Phoenix in case she wanted to say something.

Phoenix waited until their banter was finished. "Well, he did offer to assist with these." She mused. "I could call him if you wish. He does owe us a big favour..." the Captain smirked.

Gary chuckled softly at Phoenix's comment and not be outdone added, "Why Lia, you wound me." He teased then continued, "Excuse me Captain? I thought we had him scheduled for the next round of inspections."

"Yes for Science department." Lalor replied looking around.

Damien stood in the office with the Chief, trying to suppress a smile at the scene unfolding before him. With S'hib currently off the ship, his normal shift pattern had been changed around slightly, hence his presence in the office. When he heard the news of an inspection, he'd done his best to make himself as presentable as possible, and did his best to push his nerves away.

So when the easy banter started flowing between the three Senior Officers, he almost didn't know what to do. So, he just stood there, trying to look as professional as he could, letting out a small cough as he did.

"Mr. Blackford, I know your sleep patterns have been disturbed. But I suggest you get yourself sorted out, before reporting on duty". Lia lent over and pointed at the Ensign's empty collar, "Your rank appears to be missing". She smiled and waited for a response, *Just what I need, two S'hib's* she thought.

Damien looked up at the mention of his name and, hearing the Commander's words, reached a hand up, running it along his collar, his eyes widening as he felt the missing pip. 'Oh god.' He thought. 'How could I forget it.' He cleared his throat, looking up at her. "My apologies Commander. I overslept and was in a bit of a rush." No excuse, but it was the truth. Plain and simple. His eyes quickly flicked over in the direction of the Captain and XO. Oh god. How could he embarrass himself like this in front of them? Could this morning get any worse?

"Its ok Ensign" Phoenix said brightly. "I overselpt myself this morning. Sometimes the body just needs sleep. Go get your rank pip. And meet us in the Armory. We should be there by then. Now, Commander, i heard something aout biscuits?"

"Get a change of uniform as well." Gary added softly, "Looks like you slept in that one."

Damien nodded, feeling his face flush slightly. The XO was only slightly off. The uniform was the one that he'd left on his floor after finishing his shift the previous day and the first one he'd grabbed after waking up late this morning.

"Of course sir." He said to both of them, nodding slightly, then looking at Commander Taylor. "Commander." He said, nodding to her as well. He offered a small salute to them all, before heading out the door. Once he was out, he let out a small groan. "Oh god. How could I do that." He muttered, before heading down the hall, and towards his quarters.

"He's a good Officer, just a bit rough around the edges". Lia looked at Phoenix and Gary, "But that just means he fits in with the rest of us".

Gary watched Damien leave and turned back to Lia. "I'm sure he is Lia. Just needs some seasoning."

"And he'll get it, but I'll do it in my own way. I've paired him with S'hib, they seem well suited". She turned to Phoenix, "Right shall we get started?"

"Lead on" Phoenix said brightly. "I do so love inspections" The tone was falsely bright. She hated them with a passion.

Grabbing a handful of Custard Creams, Lia gave them to Phoenix. "Don't we all Captain, do come this way", she handed Gary about four or five Ginger Nuts.

"Hmm this is why i like Security" Phoenix said pocketing the snacks. "So how are things?"

Gary trailed behind Lia and Phoenix munching on a Ginger Nut. "Yeah, they have the best treats." He observed.

"Just don't drop the crumbs Commander, or we'll be having you sweep the whole Security Office", Lia smiled as she spoke to Gary. "There are some Hersey Bars in my Office drawer, if you want to get them Commander", she pointed back towards the Office and simply giggled.

"I hear you Commander." Gary replied with a smile, "A clean department is an efficient department." He remarked then turned on his heel, "Hersey bars? Gotta go get one. You want one Captain?" He asked over his shoulder as he headed for Lia's office.

"Ah no thanks." Phoenix smiled. "So which first Lia? Armory or Brig?"

As her husband disappeared back towards the office, Lia pointed towards Ensign Kade. "We'll start with the brig, and move to the armory from there. Commander Taylor should have caught us up by then, I don't think the three Hersey bars will survive his visit". She began giggling again, an image of Gary sat in her seat munching Hersey bars appearing in her mind.

Lia's vision of Gary wasn't far off, he was indeed sitting in her chair, munching on a Hersey bar. However he only ate one leaving the others for Lia. After wiping his hands and face, making sure there was no chocolate on them he hurried to catch up to Lia and Phoenix. Catching them as they entered the brig. "Only ate one, left the others for you Lia." He smiled at his wife.

Lia simply nodded, "I'll bring them home for the kid then, I'm sure HE will eat them". She gave Phoenix a wink, "I think his name is Gary, and he really likes Hersey bars". Collapsing into giggles, she now blew Gary a kiss and moved further into the brig.

Gary smiled at Lia's teasing, God how he loved her! "Good idea. They certainly won't go to waste." He finished winking at her.

When they entered the Brig, Phoenix paused. "I have never seen a cleaner brig." She smiled at the Ensign who stood at the console.

"Yes. Spotless. Very impressive." Gary answered.

There were a dozen cells in total, six consecutively arranged on either side of the roughly nine-meter-long main brig. A fizzing noise could be heard as one of the cells on the right was activating and deactivating over and over.

"Hm?" A voice was heard from inside the cell. "Is someone there?"

Out from the inside walked Ensign Ryan Kade, a small device in his hand. When he realized just who it was that had walked into his brig, his eyes widened, though only a little.

Turn, heel click, salute. His body went rigid as he brought himself to his full height. "Captain on deck!"

"At ease Ensign" Phoenix said lightly. "Looks good in here."

Ryan did as instructed, falling into a more lightly held parade rest. "Thank you, ma'am."

"Very much so. Tell me Ensign do you actually keep anyone in any of these cells?" Gary bantered lightly.

"No more than is expected on a ship with thousands of people and hundreds of mixed cultures, sir." Ryan leaned into the banter, knowing the first officer already knew everything there was to know about his crew. "Nothing much beyond the occasional petty squabble or misunderstanding."

"So glad to hear that it is not a constant flow of people" Phoenix said with a smile.

The young Ensign favored his Captain with a confident smile, "The Elysium is made of the toughest, most adaptable crew in all the fleet. Even the misfits who end up here are always ready to get back and do better. I'm proud of them all."

Lia hung back so both the Ensign and the inspection team could talk more easily, she was proud of her department and all of the staff under her command.

Once they had done their look around the brig, Phoenix turned. "Armory?" she asked.

"Please feel free to lead Captain", Lia stated as she knew her new armourer was on top of his game.

"Armory?" Gary repeated. "This should be interesting with Fernando being in charge, I know how he loves his weapons." Unaware of the change in the armory officers.

Phoenix looked at him. "Ah... you need to read up on crew changes." she said. "Lia, lead on."

"What? What happened?" Gary asked confused by Phoenix's reply. "Fernando isn't in charge of the armory?"

Moving up to her Husband, Lia tapped his arm. "He's now a liaison Officer with the Marines, I think he's enjoying it".

"Ah, okay and how is Naxea enjoying him? Gary replied. He knew Fernando's personality had the tendency to rub people the wrong way.

Phoenix shrugged and with Lia in the lead, moved to the armory.

Andy closed up another rifle, and aimed down the site, paused and trapped the display a bit before handing it over.

Ashley took the rifle with a smile and placed it in the locker. "So, I hear the Captain is in the security office... how long before you think they will be here?"

"Unsure." Andy replied as he opened up another rifle up and started tinkering

Spotting the Officers were occupied, Lia now alerted them. "Captain on deck, attention there".

Damien hurried through the halls, a fresh uniform now on, with his rank pip firmly attached to the collar. He still couldn't believe that he'd forgotten something so basic. But now wasn't the time to worry about things like that.

He practically all but jumped into the turbolift, saying, "Deck 15." As he slid to a halt. Oh how he hoped the Captain hadn't arrived yet.

But, it looked like luck wasn't on his side today. As he approached the room, he heard the Chief speak. He suppressed a soft groan as he slowly walked into the Armoury after the Senior Staff.

Both parker and he swung around and came to attention as they were informed that they were already there. "Sorry sir.."

"Glad you could join us Ensign, looking a little smarter now". Lia pointed to a spot in front of her, "Lets get a better look, front and center Ensign".

Gary chuckled silently to himself as Lia focused on the unfortunate ensign and bringing even more attention to him. He watched to see what she was going to do next.

Damien nodded, walking forward, standing at attention in the spot indicated by the Commander. Why did he have the feeling the Armoury wasn't the only thing undergoing an inspection right now.

As Damien stood to attention, Lia walked forwards and looked at his collar. "Pip, Check". She then walked around the Ensign, "Clean and pressed uniform, check. Polished boots, check. Hair combed, check!". She returned to the other staff Officers, "Who's a clever boy then? Now let this be the last time we have this situation, because next time it's an EVA suit and your scrubbing out the Bussard Collectors". Lia now flashed Damien a smile and continued, "Now show the Captain around the armoury, I'm sure your eager to show us that you know your job". As the group moved off she turned to Gary, "He's a good kid, takes all the hassle in his stride. And before you get any idea's, Security is keeping him ok!"

Phoenix smiled. "I am sure you will do well here ensign." she said to Blackford. Then she turned and surveyed the Armory. "Ensign Carey, this is your domain i believe. Please show us through."

Damien nodded as the Chief completed her inspection, and let out a small breath of relief. "Understood Ma'am." He said, nodding. "It won't happen again."

"Thank you, Captain." He said, turning to face her. "I'm glad to be here."

Andy turned and nodded, "Well Captain, as you are aware, we have the most advanced weapons in stock thats available to starfleets security Personel." He replied as he motioned for her to follow, the armoury itself was several rooms. "Currently each are organized by most frequently used on away teams thats the regular phaser pistol, and the rifle."

As they walked through the armoury, he turned, "Ensign Parker and I have been working on calibrating all weapons, upgrading with new modifications as they are available from starfleet. Some we keep aside to work on ourselves to modify. Nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing from the big guns which is in the next room."

"lead on" Phoenix said softly.

Walking in to the room with 'the big guns' which were mostly only used in extreme emergency, or in war where ground assaults were necessary or boarding parties. "This would be where the heavier weapons... land to air turrets, as well as a few which resembles old earth bazookas." He stopped and turned to the Captain, "These to modify or calibrate require a higher clearance level that neither myself or Ensign Parker have clearance of."

"I am sure that Commander Taylor will be able to do this if needed." Phoenix said softly.

Now at the rear of the party, Lia allowed her junior Officers to inform and show the inspection team around. She had full confidence in her people, and this was her way of showing that confidence.

Phoenix finished her inspection and smiled. "You have kept this place in great condition Ensigns. Thank you." She led the group from the armory. She paused and looked at Lia. "Your team is to be commended Commander Taylor, They run like a very precises... swiss watch.. I believe the human term is. Thank you for letting me inspect your team," so saying she led Gary and Ryan from the Security Department.
