Sedation Request

Posted on Mon Jan 8th, 2024 @ 8:49am by Staff Sergeant Liam "Swede" Reece [Reece] & Commander Sthilg & Lieutenant Samaire MacBride-Reece [Lalor] & Skylah McBride [Lalor]

Mission: Season 6: Episode 4: Memory Lane
Location: USS Elysium, Main Medical Bay
Timeline: MD4 - 10h00
1090 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Samaire carrying her niece, with Liam beside her entered main medical. Sam asked a nurse to find the Chief Medical Officer. They stood there waiting.

Skylah was all but limp in Samaire's arms and was staring off into space.

As they stood there, Liam held his family close, putting Skylah protectively between himself and Samaire. He was gently rubbing Skylahs hard as it laid against her aunt's shoulder. "It'll be okay, baby-girl," he softly cooed to her.

The familiar sound of hurrying lizard feet sounded before Sthilg raced around the corner. " What happened?" he said calmly his artificial arm transforming into it's scanner mode.

Samaire gave the Gorn a soft smile. "Doctor, I am sorry to interrupt your day but I have a request for you for my niece and myself."

" It'sss no trouble lieutenant." the gorn replied.

"I need you to sedate us. Skylah and Myself. The trauma from our last encounter with these aliens is coming back, Skylah is not sleeping and barely eating, and I can not sleep either. I think if you sedate us, it will be easier on us and our bodies"

Liam looked to Sthilg, silently praying that the CMO would agree to Samaire's request. His family needed help desperately, and he was feeling helpless for not being able to protect them from this danger.

" Thisss isss a very difficult requessst." the gorn said letting out a sigh. " Though from thessse ssscan resssultsss i can sssee why you'd want it."

Samaire nodded "I know what I am asking Doctor Sthilg, I know it is not normal, but I do not think she will survive this trip through this space without it." her tone was drifting to almost begging. "If.. we cannot be sedated here, we could always be sedated in our cabin... if its easier for your staff."

" No, I can do it here. I can keep you here until we're out of their ssspace." The gorn said giving them a warm reassuring smile.

Liam let out a relieved breath. With the possibility of combat in the near future, he wanted his family to be as safe as possible. Especially as he would not be able to be by their sides to protect them. "Thank you, Doctor!"

"Thank you" Samaire said softly as she shifted the listless child in her arms. "We appreciate it."

Liam helped guide his family over to a pair of biobeds. Once they were both laying down, he kissed both of them, Samaire on her lips and Skylah on her forehead. He then turned and moved over to speak quietly to Sthilg as the CMO started to prep what was needed. "Doc, I can't thank you enough for this. I'd stay and protect them, but I'm going to be deployed around the shop, as we stand ready to repel and invaders. If you tell me that they will be absolutely safe here, that you'll protect them no matter what....then I'll be able to focus on my job." There was a look of desperation in the Marine's eyes as he spoke to the senior officer as if they were equals.

" Now..." Sthilg said as he set the computer to replicate the needed sedative. " I need the both of you to lay down and relax. " he said in his doctorly tone as he picked up the doses. Looking over at Liam the gorn gave him a reassuring smile. " Asss sssoon asss their sssedated I'll be moving them to a sssupended animation pod. They'll be absssaloutly sssafe here. I ssswear on my unborn twinsss." he added to ressure Liam.

Samaire stretched out with her niece at her side on the bio bed. "We trust you Doctor."

Liam seemed to relax some as soon as Sthilg finished speaking. "Thank you, Sir." He reached up and placed a friendly hand on the Gorn's right shoulder. "If there is ever anything I can do for you, all you have to do is ask."

" Jussst keep doing your job Liam." Sthilg replied calmly as he injected the pair. " Now count back from five." He said in the same grandfatherly tone.

"Five,.. four... three.." And Skylah was out before her Aunt finished the number three and Samaire was out before she finished saying "Tw.." Both Aunt and Niece's bodies relaxed from the tension they had been feeling.

" And there we go. Now i jussst need to transfer them to the ssstasssis pod." the gorn explained to Liam.

Liam nodded wordlessly, as he watched his family be transfered from the biobed, tto the stasis pod in question. He remained clear, to allow Sthilg and his medical staff plenty of room to work.

"All sssytems reading green." Sthilg said to the medical team as they stepped away from the pod. "It will be okay Liam. They'll wake up when we've left thossse thingsss far behind usss." the Gorn said reassuringly

The young Marine let out a soft sigh of relief. Looking at the faces of his family and life, in serene hibernation, locked softly in the stasis pod, he reached out and placed his hand on the transparasteel. "May I come visit them when I'm not on duty, Sir?"

The gorn nodded. " I'll have a chair ssset up for you my boy ssso you can be near them."

A soft grin crossed Liam's face. "Thank you, Sir. I appreciate that. You have my word that I won't get in the way."

" It will be no....." Sthilg began before a bleeping from his combadge bleeped. " Sssoryy incoming medicle emergency." he said as he hurried for the entrance

Liam watched as Commander Sthilg hurried away to attend the next emergency that had began in Sickbay. It seemed, to Liam, that there had been nothing but one emergency after another since they had traversed the vast interstellar void between their home galaxy and where they currently were, in the Circinus Galaxy. He wondered, with worry, just how many more emergencies would there be, before they found a way to safely get back home.

Turning back to the stasis pod, he put his hand back on the transparent aluminum viewport, and looked over the sleeping faces of his two angels. Looking over them, he made a silent vow. If any harm came to them, he would find those responsible and rain down upon them the rage that he carried inside himself right now. If there was one thing he had learned from his grandfather, father and brothers, Reece men could become savage beasts of vengeance when those they loved were in danger.
