Every inhale made things worse, filling her chest cavity just that bit more and squeezing her left lung.

M'Tuuri had tried holding her breath, attempting to delay the onset of the suspected pneumothorax, but her body was screaming at her for air by the time she reached the Saucy Minx.

"M'Tuuri to Miraj, opurrn up." She said over the comms, masking the pain and shortness of breath as best she could.

Miraj knew the colonel had given her an order. But she hadn't said she shouldn't open for the crew, and she couldn't just leave anyone out there. It would look suspicious, wouldn't it? She gave the little violet lozenge at the Captain's chair a rub, and the rear portside hatch opened in a hiss of pneumatics. "Is everything shipshape? You sound a little bilged?"

How was she going to do this, M'Tuuri thought as her mind refocused on the next task. "Ssshit." She hissed as her eyes flicked to the specs of blood she had coughed all over her visor, suddenly and painfully aware of their existence as she hastily removed her helmet.

"Lieutenant?" Miraj's asked again over the com

"I'm fine, just hot!" M'Tuuri lied as she stumbled up into the hatch. "You try having fur and wearing an EVA." She uttered the last few words while fighting to contain a coughing fit, forcing the words out through gritted and bloodied teeth

"Fuck..." She gasped as she turned left and thumped down the narrow corridor, eyeing up the door to what passed as this ship's sick bay.

Miraj looked over to Teevs. "Did she sound fine to you?"

Teevs shook his head, his body language suggesting that they get up to check. A hand on the back of the chair, sitting on the edge of the seat, one leg tucked as if ready to push off. If his experience with gruesome war taught him anything, it was when people were lying about being fine. "I am not at all convinced," he responded.

Plausible deniability was the first thought on M'Tuuri's mind as she stuffed medical supplies into her helmet, her abrasive attitude would do the rest like it always had.

Still, she kept her ears pinned towards the door just in case.

She could hear their footsteps reverberating throughout the ship, an unwelcome but not unexpected development. "Do either of you know if we have any alcohol wipes?" She shouted, before gripping the biobed she was standing next to, her breathing becoming even more laboured and rasped.

Miraj came clattering through the door in a rush, a bit breathless, looked at all the blood flecked around M'tuuri's face, and the med bay in general. "I think you need a medic."

"What I need, is for you to keep your mouth shut." M'Tuuri hissed, her tone as sharp as her single fang.

"Fuck sssake." She growled, the sudden increasing complications aggravating her to no end.

"Oh, and he's fffucking here too... Great, great!" She added upon seeing Teevs.

Flustered, she breathed in sharply. It was a raspy and strained noise, like breathing in and out simultaneously.

"Either helpurr me or fuck off." She said through gritted teeth while unfastening more of her suit, attempting to hurriedly pull off the hard torso shell that hung over her shoulders.

"What happened?" Teevs asked, grabbing the nearest med kit he could find. He wasn't a doctor, but the field first aid training he had could help. Setting the kit on the biobed, he began quickly looking through the items. He held out the medical scanner to Miraj, hoping that she would be able to interpret the readings faster than he could, and he could be the hands.

Miraj took the scanner and stared at it. "And Is a blood pressure of 80 over 50 bad for your species?"

M'Tuuri stared at Miraj with a disgruntled look as she fumbled with her undersuit, finally gripping the zipper and tugging it partially down her chest.

"I need the osteogenic ssstimulator frrrom my helmet," She said with a raspy voice, completely ignoring their questions.

"As well as the hypurrspray and the dermal regenerator."

Another moment passed as she continued to pull her arms out of the EVA, revealing her bare and dainty frame underneath. "Purreferably before I pass out?"

Miraj looked at the mess of blood and fur, the helmet in her hands forgotten at the sight of the oozing gash along the Caitian side where the tip of one bloody pink rib was poking through. "I'm going to call Dr Heath."

"Miraj, listen to me!" M'Tuuri snarled, taking an unsteady step forward. "Our comms are being monitored... do you understand?" The pain in her voice was palpable at that moment, though it had less to do with the bone protruding from her chest, and more with the fact she was rapidly losing control of the situation.

Still, it wasn't a complete lie.

"Calling for the doctor can't be a problem, can it?" Miraj didn't understand. Surely someone's injury was more important?

Teevs could identify some of the medical devices, but not others, so he brought the kit closer to their injured crewmate. "You're not making much sense, Lieutenant. Please, let us help you. You're no good to anybody if you bleed out." He could tell Miraj was struggling to keep things under control, not at all helped by M'Tuuri's... borderline paranoia? "One thing at a time. Who is monitoring comms?"

M'Tuuri glared at the bulkhead between the two, wishing she had just stolen that ship. "I don't have time for this!" she hissed reaching out and ripping the hypospray from Teevs hand, fiddling with it briefly before pressing it just under her breast where the bone was protruding.

"Get the osteo ssstimulator," She growled as the hiss of the hypospray sent a cold numbing sensation through her body. "put the damn thing on max setting.

"And hold it steady..." She strained as she pulled herself up onto the biobed, keeping her back straight as she lay down.

"You, refill this," M'Tuuri added, waving the hypospray at Teevs. "Over there." She added, pointing vaguely across the room, M'Tuuri didn't care if he did or not she just needed him busy.

Not used to the directness, Teevs was a bit startled but otherwise went off in the direction M'Tuuri had pointed. He didn't know the name of the stuff in the hypospray, but surely the computer could help him out.

Miraj turned the bone machine to max, but hesitated again before putting it in place. "Don't we need to at least get that one back where its supposed to go?"

M’Tuuri glanced at Miraj as she brought a hand up to the bone, resting a thumb on the jagged tip. “Yeah, we do…” She grimaced before pushing.

Hypospray or not, it still felt like being hit by a disruptor. Something she was all too happy to make clear as she cried out.

It was a loud angry noise that left her lips, one that slowly morphed into an exhausted growl even as her thumb vanished into the hole.

Miraj had to put a hand over her mouth to cover the urge to vomit at the sight. She quickly jammed the osteostimulator into place and switched it on. "let me call the doctor."

“No!” M’Tuuri hissed, grabbing Miraj by the wrist with her other hand. “Utter what you have seen to anyone, and I will end your friend’s career.”

She let the words hang for a moment, her eyes piercing into Miraj.

“You see I’m not the only one who breaks a few rules to get things done, but you might want to keep an eye on him… he’s getting reckless and thats not good for me either.”

Miraj looked like she was about to say something more, and then settled for shoving the osteogenerator harder than needed against the caitian's tender ribs.

M'Tuuri winced in pain, her single fang showing.

But then to everyone's surprise she let out a chuckle, a raspy hiss-filled chuckle as she pulled her bloodied thumb out of her chest. "I see I'm not the only one with claws." She growled out, the playful tone barely hiding the warning beneath.

"You're gonna need them if you wanna grow up." She added, snatching the Osteogenerator from Miraj.

Teevs was glad his back was to the action, because it sounded most unpleasant. Finding the correct medication, he reloaded the hypospray before returning to the bed, being sure to watch for any sudden movements. This officer seemed particularly violent. "Even if calling the doctor was the right decision here, we are in the middle of hostile territory," he pointed out.

"Exactly," M'Tuuri grumbled as she fiddled with a pocket on her suit. "You call the doctor back, others are gonna wanna know why and before you know the entire away team is rushing back and making our lovely guests suspicious."

She paused, fumbling with something in her hand before pressing it under her top lip.

"That fucking stings..." She growled, rocking the loose tooth back and forth with the tip of her thumb.

"Your rib was poking out two minutes ago, and you're complaining about a tooth? " Miraj snorted "Shouldn't you be getting back? Won't they ask where you are? I won't lie to a superior officer."

"You won't need to lie," M'Tuuri mumbled as she pressed the dermal regenerator into her gums, wincing slightly as her mouth lit up with blue light. "I was going to come back eventually anyway, gotta upload my suit data into the ships computer."

The blue light vanished as she removed the regenerator, running her tongue over the still aching tooth.

"Which you can do for me while I clean everything up." She grunted, shoving the helmet towards Miraj.

The young hybrid snatched it with a glare and stomped away.

"You can help as well." M'Tuuri grumbled to Teevs as she tugged her suit shut, wincing as it pulled against her chest.
