Mission: Season 6: Episode 2: Survival
2929 words - 5.9 OF Standard Post Measure

The Shuttle was prepared and stood waiting for the senior staff. The Senior staff were summoned to the shuttle, for the quick tour of the mostly repaired ship.

Phoenix joined her command team at the base of the shuttle ramp. She stepped onto it and addressed the group. "Everyone, this is the one chance we have to look over the ship before we commence loading of the crew. Keep in mind we still have a lot of issues. You will have a list provided to you on your PADDS. So, lets get on board" she waved to the shuttle and led the group inside.

Naxea looked over the issues listed on the PaDD as she followed Lalor into the shuttle. There were still a lot of structural issues. She was happy to see that Marine Country by and large was still intact and even providing power to other areas of the ship due to the backup batteries that had been installed after the Mirror Universe incident. "I'll just be glad to get off this frozen chunk of rock," she commented as she sat down in a seat next to cockpit.

Kyle entered the shuttle next. He knew that his people had worked their asses off to get the weapons and shields back online. While ninety percent of the structural repairs were completed, the power levels were still dangerously low, as the engineering teams were still doing their own repairs. "Oh come on, Colonel," he teased softly. "My grampy would've love training his Marines here." As he knew that she knew he was basically from Marine royalty, he didn't mean any insult.

Naxea grinned slightly in return. She was tired as Sle'anna hadn't slept much last night.

Gary stood at the edge of the ramp and looked at his PaDD, he and Phoenix it seemed were to inspect every system aboard the Elysium. Starting with the major ones and working their way down to the minor ones. *Fun, fun. * He thought *Time consuming too. * and added an additional thought, *But needs to be done if we have any chance of getting and seeing home again.*

Sthilg was next to arrive bundled up in his winter gear. " Morning all he said as he took a seat in the shuttle making sure the seat could take his weight.

Alicia followed her father onboard, she was feeling a certain amount of trepidation wondering just how bad things were aboard the Elysium. “Good Morning all” She offered a polite smile and took a seat next to her father. “I don’t know about you father, but I’m nervous about what awaits us up there.”

" Asss am I little one." Sthilg said with a smile from his seat.

Kyle nodded the greeting from Alicia. When he heard her speak, he spoke up. "Forgive me for interrupting. I've been spend a lot of time up top, doing repairs on the weapons and defenses. Along with the rest of the skeleton crew who have been doing the initial repairs. While the Ely certainly isn't ready for any white glove inspections, we all have already done a tremendous job putting her back together." He glanced around at the other senior officers present who seemed to be listening to him, then continued. "We've still got a long way to go, but, I'm confident that we have pulled the old girl from mortally wounded, back to seriously or critically."

Rin started reading her PADD as soon as she sat down. She had been up to the ship a few times since the accident, so she was fairly confident what she would find. Still, she made some notes about additional things to check. Then she deleted half of them, reminding herself that this was meant to cover basic functions. There were all sorts of other things she *hoped* would be in place, and might even be confident she could get them in place, but not today. Today the task was certifying the ship was ready to fly.

Baeryn hesitantly entered the shuttle. She was nervous about being this far from Ana. The child was safely with David and Baeryn knew she would be fine but not being immediately ready for the needs of her daughter gave her stomach a squeeze. The hybrid followed Rin and settled in next to her. She was eager to see the state of the ship with her own eyes.

" Are you up for thisss my dear." Sthilg said as he looked over at Baeryn.

Baeryn waved off the doctors worry. "Im fine, it will just take time to get used to being separated from the little one."

“If you need anything just ask” Alicia smiled warmly as she looked at Baeryn. “I know how hard it is being away from your newborn, speaking of which Congratulations!”

Baeryn beamed with joy, "Thank you! Don't worry, I may be taking you up on that offer. Being a parent is surely a new adventure and uncharted territory for me."

“Well I’m sure you’ll enjoy it” Alicia smiled warmly.

Naxea smiled at the woman. She knew what the woman was going through. Thankfully, she knew Sle'anna was in good hands with S'hib. "I never did get a chance to congratulate you, Lieutenant," she said to Baeryn.

"Or I you! Congratulations back at ya. How is the little one?" Baeryn asked.

"Thankfully, sleeping most of the time, though she was up alot last night," Naxea said. "The cold seems to make her want to sleep more. How is your little one?"

Baeryn chuckled, "I wish I could say the same. I'm sure infants should sleep more then Ana does. Shes almost always wide eyed and observant."

Boarding the shuttle, Lia looked for Gary. She wanted to talk to him about Miraj's attacker, but she noted he was sitting next to Phoenix and chose to sit at the rear of the shuttle. With luck things on Elysium would give her some clue, something to point her in the right direction.

Phoenix spoke with the pilot as the rest of the senior staff took their seats.
The hatch closed behind the senior staff and the the shuttle began to lift off.

Baeryn settled in, she knew it was just a small shuttle ride but it felt like ages since she had her feet off solid ground.

A short trip later they were disembarking in the main shuttle bay. Phoenix looked around the shuttle bay. She glanced at her senior staff. "Check your areas, speak with the crew on board. If everything is good to go, we can start moving people back to the ship."

After Phoenix was done speaking Baeryn looked to Lieutenant Rin, "You've made visits to the ship right? How's the patch working coming along? Cant help but have my hopes up."

"It is...much better than the Elysium we left, but not as well as the Elysium we joined," Rin replied. "Focus has, of course, been on primary systems and areas of necessity. There was still a lot of blown out panels when I was up here last in places like Science. I expect that has been reassembled at this point."

She paused, debating whether or not to ask: "You've never been back since evacuation?"

"Unfortunately no. I gave birth to my daughter just a few days after we ended up planet side. Ive read a few reports from my team but I fear they were keeping the worst from me. But I guess we'll find out soon enough."

"Oh!" Rin gasped a little at the news. If nothing else, she should have been more aware of such things than she clearly was. "Congratulations. Best wishes to both of you."

Stepping down onto the deck, Lia suddenly felt homesick. She wanted to go straight to the Teahouse, but duty called and she headed for Security.

Naxea in fact, had not been back to the ship since the incident. The dim lighting of the shuttlebay did little to hide the dented and scorched bulkheads. She still could vividly recall being in labor with Sle'anna and making her way from her and S'hib's Quarters to Sickbay. It was an ordeal she hoped to never have to repeat as she absently touched her stomach. "I'll head down to Marine Country," Naxea said as she made her way towards the shuttlebay's corridor exit.

Kyle exited the shuttle next. As he started towards the exit, one of his department staff, Crewman Debbie Heiss, hurried over and handedhim a PADD. Kyle took it and dismissed the young crewman with a nod. He then looked over the status reports. Moving back to the Commodore and Captain, he said, "Ma'am, Sir, I'm happy to report that, aside from some power demands, which are being addressed by Engineering, all tactical systems, offensive and defensive, are in the green. We did lose the seventy-five torpedo casings from the starboard magazine, when it was opened to space by a hull breach. However, I have had replacements transferred over from both the port and aft magazines, until we are able to spare the energy and neutral matter to replicate more."

"Excellent news Commander." Gary replied at hearing the news. " You and your department are to be commended. Let them know that their hard work and dedication to both the ship and its crew are greatly appreciated."

Kyle grinned softly and nodded his head. "Thank you, Sir. I will let them know that the next time I have a department meeting "

Phoenix nodded her agreement with Taylors words. "We will need to find ways of replenishing our arsenal." She said with consideration. "Because even with power distribution and such we are going to come up short eventually and I know I would rather that didn't happen."

Alicia looked towards her father. “I guess that puts us together to check out medical, I’m unsure exactly what to expect.”

" Sssnow'sss sssent me a few updatesss, but he'sss been busssy getting the ssship'sss life support up and running." The gorn replied as he lead the way stoping a few times to help his daughter over the wreckage.

Alicia smiled as her father helped her. “All this debris will have to be cleared, but that’s an easier job once everyone is aboard. “It just...worries me how we’ll get home again.”

" We will my dear. " Sthilg said with a smile on his face. " And when we do I'm building my family that house."

Alicia smiled the biggest smile yet. “I’m looking forward to it already Father.”

Entering Security, Lia noted how parts of it still showed damage. But to be honest this wasn't really needed straightway, so the fact some repairs had been done was nice to know. She entered her office and wished she hadn't, everything had been tipped out and moved or destroyed. Both Lia and S'hib would be spending many day's and night's downloading records from the Starfleet computer database, once they were able.

Baeryn stepped off the shuttle hesitantly, the scene before her was familiar but...not. While navigating towards the operations department she caught sight of dark reddish brown stains on the floors and walls. She tried no ignore the chills and hide the relief she felt at not being reduced to such. It took far longer then she intended to make her way to operations. The doors were left ajar, something about their reluctance to operate properly had been in one of the reports she read. The pang of sadness not hearing the familiar woosh of the doors stung. She approached a view screen that's bottom right corner failed to illuminate and went to work.

Rin made her way to the Intelligence blister. She had always considered it the hub of Intel on the Elysium, and now it would be even moreso, with the Intel section of the ship secondary. This was both because work was ongoing in that section and because it was meant for more routine work, which they were unlikely to do much of anytime soon.

The first order of business was the reassigning of stations and operations to surviving officers and crewmen. This went quick.

Then, one by one, she walked her department through the functions of the blister, making sure everything necessary was in order and noting which things of secondary importance still needed to be addressed.

Finally, she started the extensive task of checking access and clearances for files she had locked down while the ship had floated dead and vulnerable.

Lia had by now returned to the Tearoom, it seemed to have survived almost intact. This both surprised and gladdened her, at least Gary and herself wouldn't have to much to do once they returned. She moved further around the ship, looking and remembering the fateful encounter. But also looking for clues as to why Derani might have been attacked, just what happened and where did it happen? She needed to find out and get the person or persons responsible, quickly before he or they struck again. And Lia truly thought another attack might happen, with the same cruelty inflicted on another victim.

--Marine Country--

Only a few turbolifts remained in service and those were only to major areas such as engineering, bridge, Intel, remaining operable shuttlebay, Sickbay, and Marine Country. The lighting was dimmed in Marine Country, casting an eerie shadow about the corridors as Naxea stepped out of the turbolift. The sounds of Marines working filled the area as she stepped into the Assembly area that had several cots set up to serve as living areas for the people aboard the ship as Marine Country had sustained the least amount of damage during the incident. The upgrades she had pulled strings for had paid off. A Tellarite Marine Sergeant came to attention. "Colonel on deck!" he bellowed as the Marines stopped what they were doing and came to attention.

"Carry on," Naxea waved dismissively. "Sergeant Grak, what's the status of Marine Country?

"It's going well, Colonel. The draw on our batteries isn't as great as more sections have regained power, which is a good thing because our batteries will need to be taken offline and recharged in the next twelve hours," Grak reported. During the past weeks, the engineers had to alternate using the batteries--using some while others recharges--to keep from being completely without power until primary power could be restored.

"Good to hear, Sergeant. Carry on," Naxea replied as Grak went back to helping a nearby group of Marines.

Phoenix walked through the ship, checking on different areas. She moved without a real goal, just walking the ship and getting the feel for it again. So many ghosts. So much chaos the ship had seen. And without spacedock her crew had pulled off a miracle.

Like Phoenix, Gary walked the ship but he had a specific destination in mind which was go to the Intel blister and speak with Rin on a certain classified matter. He made his way cautiously to the blister and found Rin busy checking her department. "How does your department check out Rin?" He asked in a general question. Knowing she would know what he was really asking.

"I'll have final checks completed in abut 30 minutes," Rin reported. "but everything looks go so far. Everything secure and where it's supposed to be. Access codes doublechecked." She gave the briefest of nods to the captain, acknowledging her understanding of the question.

Gary nodded as Rin gave him an update on the department as well as the other item he was concerned about as he knew she was as well. "Excellent Rin. Very good news. If anything changes, contact me immediately so we can minimize any potential damage."

Several hours after they had arrived the comm system crackled to life. [[Attention Senior staff. I can confirm the ship is ready to support our crew. Please return to the shuttle bay and prepare to return planet side. We need to get our crew up off the planet. Lets go bring people home!]]

Gary was down in Operations, and he was impressed with the work the department had done. The power transfer grid was no longer lit up like a Christmas tree and showed green across the board. He smiled to himself as Phoenix's announcement came through and he summed up what he was sure everyone else felt he let out an enthusiastic "Finally!"

Down in medbay Sthilg was doing the one thing he could to settle his mind. Tidying up and now he was going over the sickbay floors with a mop. Looking up a small smile spread over his face. It was time to bring the family home.

Looking up as the comms came to life, Lia smiled but also worried. Her perp was still unknown, and that SOB just might slip away if she didn't catch them soon. Heading for the shuttle bay she tried to put things together, but somehow both S'hib and herself had to get the perp asap.

Down in Tactical, Kyle was going over the status of his various systems. As he reported to both the Commodore and Gary, everything was in the green physically. They just needed full power demands from engineering and the ability to replenish their torpedo stock. Both, he knew, would come in time. As he continued to watch his team fine-tune the various targeting sensors, he heard the announcement from the Commodore. He smiled at the news. They were ready to start back towards home! After leaving Zak to watch over the continuing work, Kyle made his way back to the shuttlebay.
