Phoenix looked at the assembled officers. And at those on screens from their current work areas. “Here is how we stand – 25 crew dead, nearly 3 times that wounded. Hull breaches on several decks, torn up corridors and the tube system is compromised. And we have a Romulan ship off our bow. This Romulan ship, some of us have dealt with before. So I am not going to dredge up the past at this time it can wait until I meet with their Riov. What I want from you all is as follows. Speak with your teams, make sure they are prepared. No one walks around without being armed. And everyone walks in pairs or more. Civilians are restricted to secure areas until we are out of their range or we can somehow get them off our case.” She turned to their guide.

“Mr Teevs, Can you tell us about this race?”

After the fighting stopped and Teevs was able to check on Kerilia, Teevs and someone from security went to retrieve information from the Spheia. With the damage caused by the hounds, he didn't want to use ship resources that could be better used for repairs, so he pulled data directly from his ship. "They are Galtonians," he began, glancing at the datapad in his hands. His prior training allowed his hands to remain steady, but the tight grip he had on the datapad gave away his anxiety. "They are pack hunters, with an alpha queen as their leader and a male consort who commands the rest of the pack. There's not much information on them because few ships survive their attacks. The most recent calculated survival rate is 12%, but it’s likely much lower because it only includes known encounters."

While he was certain that the ship's environmental controls were still operational enough to prevent temperature changes, Teevs still felt cold. "Some species interpret their presence as a bad omen or a curse, because nothing good comes from a sighting. They are ruthless, and they don't negotiate. Nobody has survived being taken by them, so nobody really knows what happens." He typed on the datapad to pull up more information. "Some reports from previous encounters have described the hounds eating their victims alive during the attacks, so it's believed that those taken are offered to the queen and her consort as a meal."

Phoenix held herself still as she listened. "Such a charming race." she said "Would love to see them go against the Klingons..."

"As you saw, there is nothing charming about them," Teevs continued, not quite picking up on the captain's intended word usage. "They see your ship as something worth hunting."

“Hunting for food, and fun…not nice” Alicia sighed. “We’ve had people pouring into Sickbay with horrific wounds, those who were lucky enough to get away that is.” She looked towards her father. “The sickbay staff have been incredible.”

Gary listened as Teevs described their attackers. "They picked the wrong ship and crew to hunt." He replied firmly and then added. "The entire crew has been incredible in combating these invaders."

Kyle spoke up next. "Sensors recorded a hell of a lot of information for Intel to dig through,"he nodded to Rin, then looked back at The Commodore. "Aside from that, their ships may have heavier armor than ours, and that damn EMP weapon, we are technically more advanced than they are in many respects. I think, the tipping point is that there are more of them, than there are of us."

Naxea was still dressed in her armor in the Admiral's waiting room. She had lost six Marines and with the wounded, her department was now down to about thirty combat ready Marines from the one hundred and ten that she had before they entered this damned galaxy. Marine Country was felt like a ghost town sometimes. "We need to prepare for another attack. Launch fighters and coordinate with the Romulan vessel. It's the only way we're going to defeat those Galatonians. Can Security and engineering create a Tri cobalt Torpedo?"

Kyle looked over at Naxea and replied. "We actually have thirty-six devices on board. However, we dont have the necessary raw materials to replicate more. Its something that is only allowed to be built at a shipyard armory, due to the various arms treaties we have with other governments."

Naxea looked around. "Which governments? The ones that are a galaxy away, not in a crippled ship? I say we do what we must. We have families on board....and I am running out of combat ready Marines."

"We still do not possess the raw materials needed, Naxea." Kyle repeated gently.

"Are there crew from other departments that you could temporarily fill in the ranks?" Rin, whose arm was in a sling, asked Naxea. "Former Marines. People with heavy combat experience, particularly from Security. Intel has some infiltrators who might be of use. Obviously, they have not trained to work with your people, but might they be more useful with the Marines than with their current departments?"

"I'd appreciate that," Naxea replied. "Just send them down to Marine Country for familiarization with our equipment. "

Teevs had generally avoided talking too much about his military training, mostly because it was unpleasant but it also wasn’t the man he wanted to be. "I have prior training and am willing to assist," he added. A hint of a falter in his voice suggested that he didn't want to play soldier, but he would if it meant changing the odds in their favour. "The fact that we survived the first attack is good, and I think the Elysium's size contributed. Our survival is also bad, because the Galtonians have chosen us as their target and they won't stop."

"The Science Department, with vital assistance from Operations and Engineering, have run an analysis of their technology from the scans and the pieces left behind," said N'vok. "It is surprising that it works at all but they have managed, somehow, to get a wide variety of divergent systems working for them. While they have some nasty tricks, they are not innovators and I doubt they will be able to adapt their technology quickly to changing circumstances. They are used to prey with a lower technology base, that is not us." He flipped on a set of holograms. "For example, the portable energy shields," holograms of the energy shields in use appeared, "they use have a fixed set of frequencies; these rotate but they do not adapt as, say, Borg technology would. Our phasers should be able to be set to cycle through counter frequencies that will negate most of their effectiveness."

Phoenix listened in silence as her crew spoke. "I am guessing cloaking and flying off into the sunset will not help." She commented. "So we need to make a stand. Not something I am eager to have this crew face to be perfectly honest."

Andrinn had been sitting back and listening to the conversation as a whole. Thankfully, there hadn't been too much damage to the Diplomatic Center on Deck Two. So, he finally spoke up and said, "Well, if we need some extra hands on deck, I don't mind helping out and having the DPT come and help out in areas of security and intel. I've got some prior Engineering and Science experience, so if you need me somewhere, you just let me know."

However, something that Andrinn thought about too was what Naxea and Kyle had mentioned about treaties. He looked at them and said, "Right now, I know we're a world away. So, if a treaty or two needs to be bent to get us the heck out of here, just let me know."

"I suspect our new Romulan allies would be willing to sign off on the use of a limited number of tri-cobalt devices against these enemies as a strategic necessity in order to ensure the survival of both our groups," said N'vok. "In all honesty, the destruction of these hostile aliens would be a net good for this sector as well."

Gary listened to all that was said and when there was a pause he spoke. "Naxea, take De la Rosa and some others from security to beef up your marines. I know he isn't your favorite but he's a good shot and does follow orders. Rotating phaser frequencies is good as well as the shield harmonics and the portable energy shields. Right now we need help and the Romulans provide it. It is to their benefit we survive as the Galtonians would overwhelm them. So, they need us as much as we need them."

Phoenix nodded. "We will meet with the Romulans shortly. I want you all to make sure that if we do get the assistance that your team members will work with them without Issue!"

"If it's okay with you Commodore and Captain, I'd like to be apart of some of the talks with the Romulans. I would like to know what they know about this new species, as they might have some useful information about this new species. If we could combine information and sensor information, we might be able to find the right amount of weaponry to beat the new species," Andrinn said, putting some information onto the PADD he had brought with him.

"If it would be possible to get information from the Romulan scans of the alien ships, it would help us to analyze and locate weaknesses in their technology," says N'vok. "I know the Romulans are adverse to sharing information but perhaps the extreme circumstances will encourage them to do so. With the Commodore's permission, I think we should share our scans and analysis of the alien ship with the Romulans."

"I think that's why I would want to be apart of the group talking to them. I've worked with Romulans before and know how...stingy that they can be with their information. But, since this is a mutual enemy, it couldn't help but to ask," Andrinn said with a smile.

Phoenix took a breath. "After the initial conversation Consul, we will involve you. But the first I would like Commander Rin to join Captain Taylor and Commander Reece and myself. Once we deal with this... race and get clear we can open up more diplomatic avenues."

Andrinn nodded before replying, "Just let me know how and when I can help."

Phoenix nodded. "Ok... lets get this ship fixed and the crew prepared. Again, no one goes anywhere without someone else. Dismissed."
