The Pods

Alessandra stood silently in the large room where the five pods had been transported to. She had requested to be allowed in there. She was nervous as she waited for the medical personnel to come wake the children and get them out of the pods. she had pulled out the PADDS she had collected from the medical place on the planet and placed them beside each pod.

Sthilg was running his scanner arm over the pods. For the most part, the children were as well as could be expected though whatever the pods were made up of was stoping him do a fully detailed scan. " Okay let'sss ssstart opening the up. " He said to his team.

Kara nodded as she assisted with opening the pods, her instincts as a mother would come in handy when dealing with the children onboard.

Aless shifted on her feet. "The older children will have a lot of trauma." She warned.

" Maybe I sssshouldn't be here then. " Sthilg suggested. A big giant lizard wasn't the most calming thing in the universe.

It took a lot for Aless to be in the same room as the Gorn, but she said "They have seen worse than you Doctor."

T'Kek was in agreement with Sthilg. "Perhaps it would be best if the first faces they saw were feminine faces as the children would likely respond better and then inform them of Doctor Sthilg before allowing them to see him," he offered.

Aless was not 100% confident she would be much help. The tech being used as beyond her old training. "I don't know how to help with the new tech" she got out.

Sthilg nodded as his hands moved over the controls. " Ssseemsss to have been made idiot proof. " he said pressing a few buttons. The transparent dome began to slid back a small hint of a gas emerging as it did so. " T'Kek you're up." Sthilg said as he moved to the next pod.

Kara was standing by to help with a PADD and tricorder hand she moved in turn to each pod following Sthilg running a quick scan out of sight of the pod occupant to determine genetics.

"Alessandra. You should greet the children first," T'Kek stated as the first pod began to cycle and open, venting the atmosphere inside the pod. The child was a Vulcan/human like T'Kek.

"They wont know me either" Alessandra muttered but she did move to the first pod of the older children. The infants would probably be easier. She gently reached into the pod and touched the child's shoulder. She didn't know what to say but when the child's eyes opened, she gave a soft smile. "Hey its ok. You are safe now."

Sthilg had opened another of the pods one of the other children this one a Cardassian/Bajoran The glass began to slide back, but before the gorn could move on a scream emerged from the pod as the young girl shot straight up. Sthilg was at her side in a flash giving her as reassuring. " It'sss alright your sssafe now." The screaming continued as her dark eyes shot around the room before seemingly focusing on Sthilg. A mix of terror and relief filled her eyes before her small arms wrapped around the lizard as she began sobbing.

" It'sss okay your sssafe now my dear. No onesss going to hurt you any more." The gorn said softly as he gestured to Kara to give the girl a scan. What had she gone through that a gorn would provide comfort?

T'Kek scanned the boy with his tricorder. He has several bruises, signs of malnourishment and several signs of bones that that had been broken and healed. "I am T'Kek, and this is Alessandra," he gestured to the woman. The boy looked to T'Kek for a moment, his eyes wide with fear. "Y--you are like me," he said.

"Yes, like you I am Vulcan and human," T'Kek answered. "I am a doctor and I am here to help you."

Kara ran a covert scan of the girl that was holding onto Sthilg, her head shaking as she looked at the results. She held up the PADD for Sthilg to see rather than read off what was showing in front of the terrified girl.

" It'sss all right." Sthilg said to the hybrid who was muttering "Don't let them take me." He felt sick looking at the results. Her bones had been broken and re-healed. Given the race they saved her from he had many ideas what they had done to her. None of them he would wish on anyone. " Kara can you get our friend here a blanket." he asked

“Of course” Kara nodded and quickly headed to grab a blanket, bringing it back She gently draped it over the terrified girl. “It’s okay Sweetheart, you’re safe here with us, no one will harm you now.”

Alessandra moved towards the smaller pods. The three younger children were between the ages of newborn and 1 year of age. She knew that even if she opened the pods, because of their ages, they may still sleep. She carefully opened each pod and watched as a medical officer stepped up to each pod.

Sthilg still holding the crying child in his arms carried her over to one of the holo stretches he'd had prepared. " I'm going to put you down my dear. Do you have a name." He said as softly as he could.

"They- call me Savera" She got out softly.

“Savera, that’s a beautiful name” Kara smiled warmly.

" Well Sssavera I'm Sssthilg. " The gron said as he wrapped her in the foil blanket. " Your amount freindsss now." he added. " Do you have any family...." he began before the look on her face said it all. Another unloved result of the bajorian occupation " Kara can you look through the bajorian archivesss sssee if ssshe'sss registered? "

The girl just shook her head her face far too old for her age saying it all.

“I’ll see what I can do Doctor” Kara offered a smile. “If not I’m sure there are crew onboard who’d gladly offer you a home.”

" Can i stay with you?" The hybrid asked Sthilg.

" We ssshall sssee little one." the gorn said gently rubbing her head which brought a smile to the girls face.

Moving on to the next of the pods Kara was shocked to see that they were just infants. “I’m reading one Betazoid/Human approximately 11 months of age. A Human/Vulcan approximately 6 months of age, and another Human/Vulcan approximately 3 months of age.” She shook her head.

T'Kek finished scanning the Vulcan/human child. "You appear to be malnourished. "I'm going to give you some fluids to help you feel better, ok?"

The child nodded nervously. T'Kek could tell the child had never been taught Vulcan self control techniques, yet he himself never really took to those despite his father's best efforts. "You are very brave," he commented as he readied a nourishment packet

The child and others had all been kept at the barest of nutrition. Their captors would only feed them enough to keep them alive.

Kara headed to pick up more warm blankets, these poor children had been through quite enough. She couldn’t believe the cruelty they’d all endured. She was just picking up a blanket when Alicia popped her head through the door.

Alicia smiled as she picked up more blankets to assist Kara. “How goes opening the pods?”

“Let’s just say I can’t believe what these poor children have been through” Kara sighed. “Your department is going to have it’s hands full.”

Alicia nodded. “We already do. I’ll have Tate check in as well, she’s our paediatric specialist.”
