[Sthilg] & Gunnery Sergeant Nenaa [Sthilg] & Staff Sergeant Liam "Swede" Reece [Reece] & Skylah McBride [Lalor]

Mission: Season 6 : Episode 1: Circinus
Location: Main Medical Bay
Timeline: MD3 - 0600
3504 words - 7 OF Standard Post Measure

Cassia had settled Skylah on a couch in the waiting room and the child had dropped off back to sleep, the carrier with her pet cat beside her.

Cassia herself had thrown herself into helping out where she could. She had basic combat medicine training and experience with working with minimal supplies so she carried and she passed items as requested.

After Kara had been seen too, and Damien was confident she was going to be okay, he had thrown himself into helping out in whatever capacity he could around the Medical Bay. His knowledge was limited to the basic combat medical training he had received whilst at the Academy, but he needed to keep himself busy, or he'd start thinking too much about what was happening.

Things seemed to be calming down now, but one could never be too sure. Approaching one of the officers who had been helping out, he cleared his throat. "Hey. Do you need anything? A drink maybe?" He asked softly.

“If they don’t I could do with one” Eli said as he made his way through medical having left Emily back in the Marine Sickbay. He had tried to get around the ship but with all the damage so far he’d only be able to go from his quarters to deck 16 before being directed to marine medical and now to primary sickbay.

Damien chuckled, turning around to face the other Officer. "My pleasure." He said, smiling. "My medical skills may be sub-par in comparison to others, but my drink-making skills have been called some of the best. What'll it be?"

"Something cold would be appreciated." Yelled Vise from the biobed she was working on. The orion marine gunnery sergeant had been brought in with a broken leg and the trill was working furiously to stop the bleeding.

Elijah looked over his shoulder and chuckled, it was good to see people in such high spirits despite the chaos that had unfolded over the last few hours. “I’ll have whatever he’s having, make it easier.” He offered Damien a smile, “Has anyone seen Sthilg? I haven’t been able to check in with him yet!”

“I did suggest he take a well earned break” Alicia looked towards Elijah. “I don’t suppose there’s any chance of getting this break sorted out?” She motioned to her currently immobilised arm. “I want to be able to help, and I can’t like this.”

"Yes, well officers make the worst patients. Set him over on the medical bed and I'll see what we can do about your arm too, but were pretty thin on the ground at the moment." He waved his arm around "As you can imagine, but I'll do my best."

Alicia nodded. “If you don’t have time I’ll wait, I’m just feeling pretty useless right now.”

He stopped and sighed, “Sorry Commander I didn’t mean it like that, I’ll just grab some bits and set you up over there” Elijah pointed over to the cluster of bio beds that were being used to treat walking wounded. “Any allergies? The computer isn’t the most reliable right now”

“None that I’m aware of” Alicia offered a smile as she headed over to where Elijah wanted her.

He quickly finished bandaging the petty officers arm and made sure that they were comfortable before having a nurse continue with the triage of the other patients. Most were walking wounded and he was happy that he had time to help the Commander out. He made his way over to her and found her waiting on the bio bed.

“I’ll warn you now this is the same arm I broke when I was pregnant, probably why it shattered this time. The bone had to be pulled into alignment in my quarters before I could even get here.”

"Well unlike soft tissue damages bone actually grows back stronger so if you could avoid breaking it again in such short a time frame you might find that this arm will be far more resilient to the other." He explained readying a few tools and the operating machine arm. "Right let's get you down to your vest if you wouldn't mind I'm aware were busy so let's keep it modest." He smiled, "Would you like some painkillers or want to go in on this tea total?"

“I can manage tea total” She looked towards Savar who had joined her and was helping her off with her jacket. “Savar has been teaching me to control my pain, he’ll help me if I need it won’t you Imzadi?”

"I will assist you in every way I can my love. I will stay right here by your side as the doctor repairs your arm Alicia." Savar replied as he gently and carefully helped Alicia remove her jacket not wishing to add to Alicia's pain.

Elijah nodded, "If you change your mind please just say." The blue-haired doctor quickly went to work readying the machine, contrary to belief even with their medical advancements, resetting and preparing a broken bone or any musculoskeletal damage was painful, some people could tolerate the pain more than others but the statistics showed that most were not able. "Ok, as before place your arm in the tube and the computer will do the rest. If at any point we lose power I can take over but there will be scaring and it won't be as good." He indicated the opening in front of her which admitted a dull blue light. "When you're ready I'll begin."

Alicia nodded as she placed her arm in the tube. “I’m ready, do it.”

As she pushed in her arm the display began to show her muscle and tendons, he flicked the focus and it now showed her bones, it was a clean break thankfully and he could see where she had broken it before. Eli adjusted some final settings before pressing the button. It whirred into life as it begin reforming the bone and injecting a foam-like paste that would serve as a temporary solution while her own body produced the correct genetically engineered bone makeup.

Alicia’s other hand clenched tight, as she looked to Savar for help with controlling the discomfort she was in. It needed to be a case of mind over matter.

Savar took his hand and placed it over Alicia's, and he spoke to her telepathically via their bond. *There is no pain, Alicia. Block it from your mind. It is an annoyance. Think of Connor and N'Vea and their love for you, Think of my love for you. Think of your mother and father. How much you mean to them and how much they love you. Know you are loved my wife very much. See how much you mean to us. *

Alicia was concentrating hard, very hard. Her visions and feelings from Savar and her children were doing a good job of distracting her from the pain involved in repairing her arm.

Savar continued to provide positive reinforcement to Alicia as she worked on blocking the pain from her arm being reset. He would continue to provide assistance for Alicia for as long as she required or needed it.

Elijah observed the procedure sometimes making minor adjustments when the machine required it to be calibrated to each level of muscle, bone and skin. Usually, the machine required much less but the ship wasn't exactly at peak performance and Elijah trusted himself over a half-cooked machine working at less than perfect functionality.

Finally the machine retracted revealing her arm, it had been 'mended' - mended was the wrong word but there was lack of words for what the machine did. Yes the bone was no longer broken but it was still in a sensitive state, the foam would act as a stop-gap until the arm healed itself which was quick but still not instant. "Right, how do we feel?" he asked, "Would you like a drink of water? I recommend keeping on top of hydration as the foam and procedure can take a tool on the body. Being around 55% water it makes sense to keep hydrated to help your body finish the process, I'd also suggest you'd stay here in sickbay but these are not normal times so the least I can ask is to stay a while and don't use your arm."

Alicia nodded thankful it was all over. “Understood, thank you” She looked to Savar. “Some water would be lovely please Imzadi.” She looked back at Elijah. “Thank you Doctor.”

"Of course, Alicia." Savar replied as he went to retrieve a glass of water for Alicia. He returned moments later with a glass of the clear liquid. "Here you are Alicia. It is cold as well."

“Thank you Imzadi” Alicia smiled as she took the glass. Sipping it was sweet relief. She was grateful her arm was now fixed.

Naxea stepped out slowly from the lavatory where she had changed out of her gown and slipped into Starfleet Medical patient clothes and thankful to be able to see her feet again. She would have preferred her Marine Uniform but with replicators offline, she would have to settle for what Sickbay had in stock. She had done the best with her dishevelled hair by tying it into a ponytail, not providing much of an improvement. She soon heard crying coming from near the biobed she had been placed on when she first arrived. Next to it was a baby crib where her newborn daughter Sle'anna was now making a fuss. She approached the newborn, picking her up into her arms and tapping her lightly on the nose. "What's all that fuss about, hm?"

Sle'anna continued to cry as a realization came to Naxea as a smell assaulted her nose. She slowly pulled back the diaper as a wall of stench hit her. "Shit!" she exclaimed as she placed the diaper back. "Literally," she said more quietly. Letting out a breath, she spotted spare diapers that had been placed near her biobed by one of the staff and moved Sle'anna to the biobed. "Yeah, this shouldn't be too hard...right?" she mumbled as she tried to recall the instructional video she had watched a week ago.

Cassia was coming past when she saw Naxea looking puzzled. "Hey Colonel. Do you need help?" she asked

Turning to look at the newcomer's voice, Naxea spotted the younger woman. "You have experience with changing diapers?"

Cassia nodded "Yes in less hospitable places than this" she admitted. "The first thing is to make sure you have more wipes than you think you need. You will always need more wipes." She smiled. "And we always used to make sure there was a cloth under the baby, just in case it went everywhere"

"Well, I hope Sickbay has tons of wipes," Naxea replied, with a small grin as she spotted a cloth under the biobed. Grabbing it, she moved it under Sle'anna who was still crying. She then looked around for wipes, spotting them next to the clean diapers.

S'hib meanwhile watched quietly from across sickbay, a hypospray pressed against his hip, hissing briefly before being discarded onto a tray of other medical equipment.

The chill of pain subsided, leaving his leg feeling numb to its core. He would remind Sthilg later he told himself as he breathed out deeply and hobbled across Sickbay towards Naxea and his child.

"Can I help?" He asked, not entirely sure if he could and in what capacity, he was after all a Sequus and no Stal of his kind had ever to his knowledge changed a diaper, let alone be the kind of father Naxea wanted him to be.

"Sure, take this and dispose of it, please?" she held a heavily soiled diaper by pinched fingers as she gently held Sle'anna's behind up off the biobed.

Cassia smiled at the large officer. "There is a recycle unit over there" she said as she handed the Colonel more wipes and a clean diaper.

He took the diaper from Naxea and turned, looking at where Cassia had pointed before turning back, tilting slightly to the side to see around her out of curiosity. "Thank you..." He nodded towards Cassia, his eyes still fixated on Naxea and his daughter, almost forgetting he had to actually dispose of the diaper for a moment before blinking back to reality and leaving.

Arrianna was still unconscious. Jess looked at her then heard her voice again. "Doctor Sthilg."

The lizard was still arm deep in a patient. Not looking round he yelled out a polite " Yes Jess?"

"Commander an Vantar just communicated with me telepathically."

"What ssshe'sss saying. " The gorn replied as he finished with his patient.

"Hold on... Let me tell you what she said.. 'I'm alive, but beam hit my head on the way down. Like Betazoids, my brain heals as effectively as theirs, but it takes longer.'" Jess noted. "'In that case, my subconscious and conscious minds trade places, but my subconscious is not safe right now.' There is the remains of the mental anomalies from my ordeal here, and they are quire.. Treacherous.'"

Sthilg had finished with his current patient so hurried over. " What can we do to help Arrianna?"

"A Strucual support fell in her in her quarters, Doc. Me and Man'darr found her wedged under there good. She's unconscious, but aware." Jess explained.

" Get her into the full body ssscanner I'll sssee what I can do." the lizard replied after thinking it through. If only they had more than one full body scanner.

Back in the quarantine area, Nicholas stood vigil over Liam, helping the medical staff with his care as much as he could, to help free them up to aid others. Suddenly, he felt a tingle on the back of his neck and he looked around, through the glass doors, he saw Kyle! Breathing a huge sigh of relief that his twin was still alive, he left Liam's side to go to Kyle.

As Kyle and Vanessa moved to an open biobed, so his leg could be seen to, he saw his twin brother moving towards them. "Nico!" He called out, relief flooding through his mind.

When Nicholas reached Kyle and Vanessa, he threw his arms around his older brother, embracing him tightly. "I thought we lost you!"

"I was worried about you guys too!" Kyle replied. He then relaxed his hold and looked around. "Where's Liam?

A look of pain filled Nicholas's face. "He...he's been hurt pretty bad, Kyle," he replied heavily. "Cassia and I found him and Skykah, in what was left of their quarters. He...he's been burned real bad. The medical staff is doing what they can. He's stabilized right now, but they aren't able to heal the burns yet.

Kyle looked like he had been gut punched.

Vanessa spoke. "Kyle, you're going to stay here until the doctor fixes you up. I'm going to go and see if I can be of some service to this crew."

Kyle nodded nimbly, barely hearing Vanessa's words. Looking back up at his brother, he asked, "Was Skylah burned too?"

Nicholas shook his head. "No, she wasn't injured. It looks like Liam went to close her door, to keep the heat from getting to them. She told us that Liam told her to put cool washcloths on his burns. Even in that state, he was trying to protect her. Our little brother truly is a man of his own household now."

Kyke nodded slowly. "Let's just pray that he's able to return to his family, Nico. All of it."

The brothers continued to comfort each other as the chaos around them continued. Neither one daring to even think that their little brother wouldn't make a full recovery.

The door slid open as in walked the chief md. He was covered in grime and blood but still manged his warm smile. " What happened?" he asked as he picked up the note attached to Kyle biobed.

Elijah was floating between patients, trying his best to keep up with the steady flow of new crew member who were finding there way to sickbay. “Right then, what have we here?” He asked Kyle. Eli was tired, and fatigue crept over his face. The blue haired doctor began to examine him with the medical tricorder that at this stage had been attached to his hand for a few hours. “That’s a good splint I must say, how are your pain levels?” He could see Kyle's tibia had broken, from the increased swelling his patella had slipped and been reset as well. Luckily there was no bone splinters or trapped cartilage.

Looking over at the unfamiliar face, Kyle replied. "It hurts, but, I've had worse pain. I'm Captain Kyle Reece, Academy Annex Commandant. And you are?"

“I am Doctor Carmichael the new assistant chief medical officer” explained Elijah, readying a hypospray, “I can give you something to reduce the pain and I can do something about the broken leg but the swelling and bruising around your patella will have to be done the old fashioned way, time,” he motioned the Hypospray to see if pain relief was something the Captain wanted before he set up the musculoskeletal regeneration program.

Kyle considered the offer. "Just give me enough to proceed. Supplies are short right now and I'm sure there are others who will need it more than me."

"Very well but if you need anything more please don't push yourself." Elijah pressed the hypospray against the captain's skin releasing the lowest dose of painkillers and anti-inflammatories. He flicked on the machine and it quickly went to work mending the damaged ligaments, muscle and bone. It would ache for a few weeks after but it would at least be repaired.

Leaning back on the biobed, Kyle gritted his teeth as the machine did its job. Had he had the full dose of meds, he wouldn't feel a thing. However, he could feel a good bit of the procedure, and it hurt. But, he would keep his mouth shut and bear it. He certainly had felt worse pain before in his life.

Sle'anna was now quiet, apparently happy at having a clean bottom as Naxea held her in her arms, wrapped in a blanket and being bounced lightly. Her mind kept going to her Marines, fighting the urge to try and make her way down to Marine Country. Letting out a sigh, she looked at Sle'anna in her arms. "You're not going to make this parenting thing easy, are you?"

In response, Sle'anna just stared at Naxea, appearing completely content for the moment.

Vise had just finished with her current patient and walked over to the happy family. " She's taking after her father." The young cyberneticist said as she ran her scanner over the hybrid. "Colonel if you can continue to hold her for a few minutes I can take a look at your fiancé leg."

Naxea looked down at Sle'anna in her arms and then over at S'hib and back at Vise. "Sure, go ahead." She only hoped S'hib would stay in Sickbay after his leg was healed but she knew how he was--he would likely bolt out the door as soon as he was able.

"How are we doing?" Elijah asked Kyle as the machine beeped signalling to the Doctor it had completed its cycle, the screen was fuzzy now either due to lack of power or some system malfunction but he didn't need to tell the Captain that. "I will for my sanity explain that you should take it easy the next couple of days as your body still has its natural process and while the procedure is good it's not bulletproof so if you go running around it'll likely pop back out. The good news is you didn't splinter any of your patellae or trap any cartilage which will help speed up recovery IF you take it, easy sir. Oh and wear this" He produced a knee split, "Wear this for at least 48 hours please sir." He wasn't going to force the Captain to do anything but it was his medical duty to ensure he provided the most sound advice.

Kyle nodded and smiled politely as he took the splint. As he secured it around his knee, he replied. "I give you my word to do my best, Doctor. Unfortunately, we are in a bit of a crisis at the moment, so no promises."

Elijah nodded and smiled knowingly, "Yes it seems your words are not inaccurate, we're a little busy here and across the ship" He sighed, "I hope the numbers remain low" He didn't need to what numbers out loud but it was understandable that as a doctor he was concerned about the people he couldn't help.

Cassia checked on Skylah and her pet and then returned to assisting the nurses with triage.
