Ensign Ryan Hamilton, under orders from Captain Phoenix Lalor, had sent out the crew wide invitation along with co-ordinates for beam in.
Captain Lalor had chosen to host a Crew only Beach Barbeque and bonfire. She had, with permission, set up on a vacant beach. There were sun shades, large gazebos, tables filled with food and drink and sun lounges galore. And tiki torches were scattered around the area which would be lit as night fell. And in the centre, a large stack of wood was piled, in a deep hole in the sand.
Surf boards and wave riders were dragged up on the beach. Beach towels hung on strings in the trees and there were strings of small lights hanging between large poles to give more light. All that was missing, was the crew of the USS Elysium.
Ryan sighed as he looked over the preparations, the Captain had made. He knew, that the crew had gone through a lot, but really, what a waste of time and credits.
Lt. Commander Vaii was busy at the grills preparing some of her incredible barbecue. Often she only did this for the squadron, but she'd do it for the crew as well. Jess examined all of the ribs, the chicken, and the steaks with precision. She also had her amazing assortment of barbecue sauces. From mild yet sweet barbecue to the more overwhelming ghost pepper barbecue sauces with a clear warning label on it. almost ten different types of barbecue sauces.
The next to beam down was the newest arrival to the ship. The exocom was hovering slightly high of the ground several boxes hanging under him with a small tractor beam. " Greetings fellowship mates. I bring beer, cornbread, several cuts of meat from across the galaxy and dip curitosy of Doctor Sthilg. He will be arriving shortly. " The robot said in his strange voice.
Man'darr, dressed in red swim trunks, approached Jessica. "Need any help?" he asked, with a charming grin.
"Yeah, take the food to the tables, and don't you dare eat it all. You don't want me pissed off. No one eats until the Captain says so." Jess mentioned She adored this capellan ever since the cargo bay, especially when she could give him orders.
"Then maybe I should promote myself to Captain," he teased, taking the indicated plates over to the tables. The smell from the food was making him more hungry by the minute.
"Counting on you Jarhead." Jessica noted. "I want enough for everyone on all the tables. This is our family you know."
Two more crates beamed in followed by the ships doctor. Sthilg was still wearing his uniform trousers though he wore no shirt or shoes. He held two further crates which he carried towards the barbacue. " Where do you want these Jessssica?" he asked.
"Over there, Doc. By the coolers and the bar. By the way, do you have the grilling temperatures for this meat you've bought. I want to make sure it's perfect." Jess noted. "No one ever gets underdone nor overdone food from me."
" The grilling temperature is written on the inssside of the coller cratesss." The doctor said opening one up to show them the carefully laid out infomation.
Arrianna showed up with Josephine and approached Phoenix. "You know us so well, Captain. I never miss these parties of ours. At least we know how to have fun."
"We do indeed, Commander. Find a space, its going to get crowded soon enough and sunset is in 5 hours." Phoenix said brightly
Lt. Victor Barclay de Tolly brought his daughter Acting Scientist Mate Lara Barclay de Tolly, Lt. Tonya King, his mother Professor Lara Barclay de Tolly and her date, his father Commander Pyotr Zhukov.
"Victor," Pyotr says to his son, "Thanks for inviting me."
"Truth be told," Victor answers looking at his mother, "I invited Mom and she invited you as a date. Is there something I should know?"
"Victor!," Professor Lara says looking at her son, "What happens on Pacifica, stays on Pacifica."
Victor's daughter say looking at him. "No teasing Mimi. You should practice the Prime Directive as in no interference."
Victor's parents chucked a bit while he facepalms himself. "My apologies."
"Your parents should be happy together," Tonya says poking Victor.
"Well just so you all know," Pyotr says looking at his son, "Your mother will be spending a couple of weeks on the Borodino. The Captain suggested she could come on board to help the crew."
"That is good news," Victor as he saw several showing up like Alicia.
Alicia arrived wearing a light flowing beach suitable dress. She had considered a bikini but changed her mind at the last minute. Baby Connor was dressed in a t-shirt and shorts. She smiled as she looked at Savar. “So what do you think? Ready to have some fun on the beach with us?”
Savar didn't answer right away as he looked at the gathering of crew. He was dressed in shorts, a brightly colored Hawaiian shirt, sandals, sun glasses and a floppy hat. "Most interesting Alicia, I look forward to studying this further."
Alicia grinned. “Well you look very fetching and you blend in wonderfully so I’m sure you’ll enjoy studying what’s going on.” She looked around but didn’t see Sthilg as yet, she was looking forward to getting to know her adoptive father better and this gathering was the perfect occasion.
"I shall make every attempt to do so Alicia while I enjoy my time with you and Connor." Savar replied sedately as he watched more of the crew enter, all dressed in different styles of clothing.
Alicia grinned as she found a shady spot where they could set down their pop up beach shelter. She needed to make sure Connor didn’t get sunburnt or overheated. “How’s about we settle down here? There’s shade and a nice breeze plus it gives you plenty to watch.”
Savar nodded, "This is most acceptable Alicia." Savar noted as he began to put up their beach umbrella as well as some toys for Connor.
Noting his adopted daughter, grandson and her husband Sthilg selcted a few drinks from the cooler before placing them in a cool bag before walking over to them. " Alicia, Sssavar it's good to sssee you this lovely afternoon and how are you doing Connor? " he said knelling down to look at his adopted grandson.
"He's settled in very well" Alicia smiled warmly at Sthilg.
"Hello Doctor. It is good to see you as well." Savar replied politely.
Alicia looked curiously at Sthilg "Is it alright for me to call you father when we're off duty and around the crew?" It was a silly question but she wasn't sure if Sthilg was ready for the crew to know or not.
" Off course daughter and it's nice to see you as well Savar." The lizard replied with a wam smile.
Ensign Louis Bordeaux sighed when he saw Tonya with Victor. He went over to see if there were any games like volleyball.
Naxea arrived in arm with Lieutenant S'hib. Wearing a blue floral V-Neck beach cover up with a bikini underneath and barefoot. She spotted Vaii on the grill and several Marines already in attendance. "Vaii's cooking smells good," she commented, looking at S'hib.
“You do remember, I’m a herbivore... so I’ll have to take your word on it.” He remarked, upper lip and nostrils twitching at the smells.
"At least it's not horse meat...at least I don't think it is..." she looked sideways at him with a wicked grin.
“Sweetheart, I thought you would know the difference by now.” He neighed back, bursting into laughter at his own crude joke.
Naxea moaned in annoyance. "I can't take you anywhere," she shook her head, smiling in spite of herself. For the moment, she was truly happy, having forgotten the weight of everything that had happened recently. She knew that resigning would take her away from S'hib and those that she had come to call on as friends. For better or for worse, she decided against resigning her commission. For now, at least, the Elysium would remain her home. "And I think I won't be resigning," she said finally.
"Oh?" He sounded genuinely surprised, stumbling over his hooves as he turned to look at her. "What made you change your mind so soon?" He asked, oblivious to the fact that maybe, it had something to do with his proposal.
"So soon?" she repeated. "We've been here for a couple of days already and not to mention the stopover at Deep Space 16 before this. It may seem soon to you but it's been a lifetime for me."
“You should have told me sooner, can't keep everything locked away in that armoury of yours.” S’hib said as his lips pressed against the side of her head. “Stubborn as any Sequus mare.”
Naxea looked up at him with a sly grin. "I just now chose to. I realized that I'm needed here. Come on, let's get some food."
Miraj had been born in space. She been raised in space, she'd played and lived and been schooled in space. In artificially lit rooms and corridors where there was no risk of sunburn or freckles. She was pale as milk. Consequently she'd learnt the hard way what happened to naturally pale people who went into the San Francisco sun unprepared. She wasn't taking risks this time. She was covered head to toe in a skin tight wetsuit, in purple with bronze trim, and her piratical hat. The few remaing parts of her that were uncovered were slathered with high factor sunblock. And whilst she didn't like the sun much, the smell that was coming from the table of food more than made up for it, and she set course for it directly, fully intending to plunder it for sausages.
Lia arrived by herself, Gary had said he was busy so here she was on her own. Her sky blue bikini contrasted with her white short Kimono top, her Japanese sandals help with the sand. On her head she wore a large bamboo coolie hat, it shaded both her head and shoulders. She found a couple of trees that cast a cooling shadow over the sand and spread out her large beach towel, sitting down she scanned the crew for her friends.
Imik beamed down wearing an Ojnas long loose fitting white dress, she to wore a large floppy hat covering her head and shoulders. Moving towards a small bungalow with a veranda she could shelter under, she sat on a beach chair in the cool shade.
It was at this time, that Andy had beamed down, he knew of the party, it wasn't really the scene for him. Being just out of the academy, and this being his first mission he thought he should be doing his job. After reading what happened to the crew during the last mission, he understood why this had to happen. Why this, relaxation, distraction, was needed. He wasn't part of it. He had no idea how he would have handled it. A lot of smiles could be seen in everyone, this was needed. The first location he wanted to visit was located, upon another look he found the second. Food first Alcohol second. He headed straight for the food table.
Vanessa beamed down with several casks. "Ladies and Gentlemen." She noted as she placed some fine wines and spirits near the bar. "I usually get these as gifts during my tenor as a diplomat. Unfortunately, you don't want to see an imbibed Alindari. It is quite distressing to say the least."
Scott and Jade entered next. He had on black swim trunks and a tropical shirt and sandals. His hand was holding hers. Radiant smiles on their faces, showed their happiness.
A few minutes later, Gary entered. He was dressed in blue trunks, sun glasses sandals and Australian bush hat (cause he liked it) and the garishly colored shirt he had first worn when he and Lia first went to Risa on an undercover mission. More importantly was what he had with him. A small cooler was in his hand and inside were some bottles of Sake as well as some Dabo chicken. He knew of Lia's fondness for both and this was he thought a nice way to surprise and show her how much he cared.
As Gary appeared, Lia noticeably cheered up. She now stood up and waved to him, "Gary!! Over here, I've managed to get a good spot!" She waited expectantly as he made his way towards her, then she noticed the cooler. *What the hell has he got in there?* She thought.
Gary saw and heard Lia and waved back as he moved towards her. Reaching her he looked around, "This is a good spot." He remarked as he sat the cooler down. "I've brought a few snacks." He offered with a smile.
"Really? A few snacks, looks like your in for the full term". She giggled as she spoke, "Anything special in there?". Lia sat down and patted the towel next to her, "I think we need to talk, I've been made an offer. Alicia wants to be a surrogate for us, but I'm not so sure. What do you think?"
Gary sat down next to her, "Open it up and see for yourself." He said with a grin. "As for Alicia's offer. She told me you two had talked." He looked around at the crowed beach. "It would be impolite to leave now but later after we eat, we can go for a walk and discuss it."
Unable to contain herself, Lia opened the cooler. Her eye's lit up as she saw the Sake, then a wide smile found her mouth as she smelled the Chicken. "I wasn't looking forwards to this on my own, after you said you were busy. But now I'm glad I turned up, and if you want to talk later that's fine by me. But first things first, Sake and chicken are calling". She lent over and kissed Gary, "I'm looking forwards to getting married, if we keep this sort of thing up".
Gary returned the kiss, "I didn't lie I was busy, I just didn't say with what. I think later is better. Dig in and enjoy." He chuckled leaning back to look at her, "Oh? Is that a fact? I think I can safely say that it won't be a problem keeping this up after we're married." He chuckled again, "Marrying me for my cooking and supplying you with Sake."
